An elm street collection would be a "dream". The WB bargain basement collection with awful awful photoshopped cover was such a missed opportunity.

Shout! made a deal for some titles on BD, before Morgan Creek decided to do a distribution deal with Sony.

This puts Shout! in the unique position of having active licensing agreements with MGM, Warner Brothers and the Arkoff estate (The Final Terror and Hellhole). Between the three of them, they should be able to put something together, assuming usable film elements still exist.
There are usable film elements for Abby. Ownership of the original negatives is in question. Many of the prints were destroyed. The American Genre Film Archive have a DCP sourced from rare 35mm prints that survived. I saw it last year. It has some minor damage, but otherwise it looks good. I'd love to have a blu-ray of it.

I'm curious to find out if the work was undertaken (and funded) entirely by 88 Films, or if someone else might have been involved.
I think it's been over five years since Warner Archive last commented on Alice, Sweet Alice. I have a feeling that project simply fell through for some reason or another. Apparently, the film had aired on TCM in HD a few years back, but it was the Communion cut.

Warner said a few months ago they couldn't find good elements to do it.

I may be the only one hoping that The Granny (1995) comes out as a part of this deal. It's delightful cheese.

Very cool! Looks like someone will be releasing Return of the Living Dead Part II on Blu-ray in the near future.

Yeah, at this point there should be an END ALL BE ALL NO STONE LEFT UNTURNED IF IT AINT ON THIS DISC IT DOESN'T EXIST box set for ANOES.

But what I'm craving is a 4k digital restoration of George A. Romero's Creepshow complete with the Just Dessert's Doc and Scream Greats Vol. 1: Tom Savini. I'd kill for that.

Warner are pretty stringent when it comes to usable elements (look at The Thing from Another World, or The Big Sky say). We know, however, that Scream are not quite so picky. But who knows if Warner would allow them to settle for less, perhaps this is something they've specified in the agreement?

They actually never said they couldn't find proper elements, I think severe negative damage, missing parts or something similar was the reason. This is their latest reply to me:

I'm hard-pressed to imagine how a future box set of A Nightmare on Elm Street could possibly be better than the existing Blu-ray set, aside from packaging. I'm thinking that any improvement in picture quality would be negligible at best.

I like the uncomplicated Amaray case and the space-saving setup of the existing set anyway, despite the underwhelming cover art.

Fixing the black crush issues would be a huge improvement.

They could start with fresh transfers and maybe attempt to put together director's cut. At least two of these films are supposed to have alternate versions out there

From what I gather after watching the A Nightmare on Elm Street Blu-rays and checking out the caps, the DVDs were way too bright, and the Blu-rays look pretty good.

I don't think there's a question that Scream would want to licence the NOES series; it's more a question of Warner's willingness to play ball, not to mention the fees involved. Let's see what happens.

Of course, it might be that Warner are only allowing them to release previously unreleased (on Blu) titles. Their stance with Criterion suggests they're okay with double dips, but will Scream get the same privilege? Might be worth watching to see if any Warner horror Blus go OOP, since they have tended to do that when a Criterion release appears to be on the horizon.

If detail is unimportant to an HD presentation...

You picked some of the finest instances of black crush on these discs. The DVDs are way too bright and the Blus are way too dark. Alice's legs simply disappear in the second cap you posted. The crush is especially egregious in the third one you posted and let's not even mention Yvonne's hair in The Dream Child.

It's all moot, anyway, because I highly doubt Scream will ever be releasing any NOES and Warner isn't going to rerelease them with better picture & extras.

My biggest issues are with Nightmare 2 and 4. I prefer the blue look that 2 has always had, which the blu-ray does not retain at all. And 4 is way too dark in a lot of places. Having seen a screening of an actual release print of 4, I can 100% say that the Blu-ray is not accurate to how the movie was meant to look.

Dr. Giggles has been out of print for a few years now and seems like the kind of film that wouldn't require substantial licensing costs and could be re-released with more special features as part of the Scream Factory lineup.
