All those Warner possibilities and now this...

Upgrading an existing Scream Blu-ray release is certainly a new development. I'm not sure why they came out of the bat with this one in particular. I know it supposedly sold well for them but I'd be surprised if many were that interested in double-dipping, even at the lower than usual CE RRP.

Hmm, guess now I have no excuse not to pick it up. I passed on it the first time it was released.

If they are going to do more re-releases, I hope a collector's edition of The Stepfather is next.

It's funny, I thought I'd read that Ninja III didn't sell well. Maybe I'm not remembering it correctly but Cliff Mac mentioned it wasn't among their best sellers back when he was active on these boards. It has been a while.

No thanks. I want to see new titles that don't have a blu ray get released.

That was years ago. Since then, it’s been one of their better sellers (being something like $8 at Best Buy and Amazon a few times helps).

I wonder how many collectors are now going to be apprehensive about buying SF titles that aren’t completely loaded from now on.

You raise a good point. Titles like The Phantom of the Opera '89, The Sentinel, Witchboard, Evil Speak, Final Exam, etc. now could suddenly be revisited in collectors editions which could in turn lead to some apprehension down the road for any new non-collectors edition titles from some folks.

Wasn't considering getting Ninja 3 but how can I resist that cover and those extras. SOLD. This is the same reason why I bought Silent Night Deadly Night.

I'm very hesitant to buy re-releases of pretty much any title these days based on the possibility of a future 4k release.

If the original release was a dog like say Total Recall I don't mind double dipping for better quality.
If I'm happy with my current version however, it just doesn't make a lot of financial sense to me....

Scream originally said that Ninja III wasn't selling as much as they had hoped/thought it would.

Now they say it has overperformed?

Interesting.

The thing is, every release can always be improved upon. If it's not 2k, it's 4K if not, then whatever else they come up with. But at what point will you be satisfied? Surely there has to be a point where You say okay this is it.

There's literally tons and tons of movies that don't have a blu ray release, some not even a DVD release. Those need to be the focus for these labels.

well, as stated, I am satisfied with my current blu rays in most cases.

Movies that are favorites I don't mind upgrading "one more time" to a 4k release because the uptick in PQ is pretty terrific. I say "last time" because I truly believe that 4k is it as far as physical media releases.... and even then I doubt tha 4k will have the success and library that blu ray has...

Interesting.
Shout didn't say it overperformed - someone on this forum did. The poster was basing that on the fact the Blu-ray has been available really cheap at Best Buy. Not sure what that's got anything to do with it. I was right about Shout saying this wasn't a top seller - I just wasn't sure since it was said so long ago. Bit of a headscratcher why they're reissuing this one.

This announcement post for this new release says "the sales numbers surprised us and it over-preformed."

Sigh, I’ll try again....

Shout originally said that it wasn’t selling well. After a few years (and a few good deals for it - which does help), it is now classified as a good seller. Sometimes titles start slow out of the gate, but sell in better numbers over time.
