I don't know the specific circumstance here, but an unfortunate side effect of the success of the DVD era is that nowadays, some rights holders hold out expecting the same payout for a blu-ray release that they got for the DVD.

Been checking out some horror flicks on Amazon Prime lately (really surprising they have such a good selection, blows Netflix out of the water). Checked out Alice, Sweet Alice and Lover's Lane and enjoyed both. The best of the first-time viewings was last night's When a Stranger Calls Back. Now THAT is a sequel! Would love SF to get their hands on all three. I suppose all three are off the table for now while the Warner titles are (rightfully!) explored.

After Hours (1985), Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead and Bloodsport would all be welcomed.

That's for Shout Factory not Scream Factory.

Scream is only for horror, thriller, suspense and sci-fi films.

same question for about half of the "wishlist" posts here.... I really don't get it. Why are people excited about double dips of perfectly good releases versus getting titles that have not yet been released?

Now don't get me wrong... older releases that were completely barebone or using primitive encodes I understand... I want to upgrade stuff like that too...
but I get much more excited about hearing announcements like "The House That Dripped Blood" than say collector's editions of "Drag Me To Hell" and "The Strangers".....

I wouldn't mind some new supplements on Blade, especially if they were to include input from capricious director Stephen Norrington (as unlikely as that is). The isolated score with commentary from Mark Isham featured on the DVD but omitted from the Blu would also be sweet. Blade II was already pretty jam-packed with supplements; can't imagine there's much more to add there.

Honestly, It won't break my heart if these aren't re-released, and the existing transfers already look and sound terrific.

Other than the Nightmare box set my dream from Warmer/Scream would be the complete series of Tales from the Crypt on Blu although not sure if it’s possible.

I don't get it either. Seeing stuff like Innocent Blood and Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III makes no sense at all. They both just recently saw releases. There isn't much Scream Factory can do to improve them beyond maybe some new special features. Either people aren't aware some of these movies already have solid releases or having Scream Factory on the spine is very important.

I'm all for Blu-rays with shoddy video and audio getting a new release, but I much rather see stuff that hasn't seen a Blu-ray release yet.

With Scream/Shout Factory doing such a nice job with Joe Dante titles, would there be any chance of them releasing the complete Eerie, Indiana? I'd like that series on Blu-ray, but I've no idea who owns it.

Exactly!! There are so many horror films that have never been released on blu and some never even made it to dvd. This is what attracted me to companies like shout factory in the first place..the hope that we would get all our favourite unreleased horror gems on blu

Drag Me To Hell, The Strangers and other more recent films - those were "filler" pickups I suspect. Who knows how long SF have been negotiating with Warner. In between negotiating, SF had a schedule to maintain and needed product. The MGM well ran dry and there aren't too many licensable independent movies left. I think the people requesting SF license movies that have already been released are folks nostalgic for the days when practically every release was packed with extras. I can kind of relate to that but I'm not as rabid for extras as I used to be. As long as the movies we get are uncut and look and sound great, I'm happy

I know certain movies have their fans, but I think it's unrealistic to expect Scream to give fairly modern films like The Cell or Ghost Ship the CE treatment. After all, it's not like these are particularly high profile titles. We all have an idea of which previously-released Warner titles they'll be seeking to acquire.

So...Bloody Disgusting is covering a story on something like "Chiodo Brother Reveal Unused Practical Effects for Critters 2." Wonder why the Chiodo Brothers would be digging through unused practical effects for a 20-year old movie...

Hopefully the special features for that Scream Factory Critters Box Set!

If CE's for Robocop 3 & Teen Wolf Too happened, I've realized anything is almost possible with Scream!

Worth bearing in mind that things are very different now - back then, they were starved of CE candidates, and were forced to pick from scraps from the MGM catalogue (mostly of titles previously released on Blu). But now they appear to have a host of high-profile Warner titles available to them, not to mention unreleased ones (alright there aren't many CE candidates here, but tons of standard release options). In short, I can't see why they'd choose to re-do The Cell for example, given it has a great transfer and very good extras. If they're desperate enough and still going in 3-4 years time, and still on good terms with WB (there's optimism), perhaps we'll see it then.

Also worth bnoting that Teen Wolf Too had never been released on Blu before (even DVD), and it being a CE was almost certainly because they were releasing the first at the same time. Now Robocop 3 did have an existing Blu, but then it was a fairly dated master and didn't have any extras, and is at least part of a pretty famous franchise.

I beg to differ. If they see a money making opportunity and the extras are there, why wouldn't they? The Strangers, Cyborg, Dawn of the Dead (2004), Dreamscape, Escape from New York, Jeepers Creepers 1/2, Land of the Dead, Species, Teen Wolf 1/2, etc. You could argue some of those aren't "modern" but some definitely are. They all had previous releases as well. Maybe there's room for audio/visual improvement and extras. Even if it's minimal, my guess is that they try to stretch a collector's edition out of whatever they can.

Again though, there are potentially massive options open to them now which weren't back then. If they had this deal over 18 months ago say, would they have bothered with the likes of The Strangers, Cyborg, Teen Wolf? Probably not. It strikes me as a case of needs must to carry the line until they could make a deal with another studio.

I'd have to agree with this. I love Cyborg, it has its fanbase, and I'm glad it got a CE (it's sitting in my watch stack right now), but these last few CE's have felt more like releases out of necessity. Now that the Warner deal is in effect, hopefully the CE line will be "recharged." If there was no Warner deal, let's face it, the CE line would have to come to end. I'm hoping Warner becomes an essential part of it, and then Paramount. Maybe even Sony, from the sound of things.
