The problem with companies like Twilight Time, is that mass consumers have no idea, who they are. They don't know what their releases are, unless they see them at Walmart, Target, Best Buy, etc.

Those of us that purchase from TT, Code Red, Scorpion, etc., are more in the know. Some people I know, are shocked that I import movies from overseas! It's like a lot of peeps are just ignorant of many things.

Do we really think that Mass consumers would have been interested in the title? Sure having it in physical retail locations would have certainly helped sales, but I can't imagine that for this particular film it would have made any sort of substantial difference.

Well, you can guarantee they’ll release a collectors edition of Christine.

Ding, ding! They would have sold far more than TT did. Especially, if they released some of these movies, during Halloween.

Walmart always has Killer Klowns, Motel Hell, and other lesser known horror movies on sale. They seem to sell well from what I see. Especially, during the Halloween season.

No offense but I think you're crazy if you think that The Believers is even remotely as popular as Killer Klowns, Motel Hell, or any of the other titles typically seen in retail horror displays. Increased exposure will help make additional sales more convenient, but a title still needs to be liked by the masses if they are going to purchase it. There is clearly an audience for the film, but I have a hard time believing that audience is that much bigger than the couple of thousand people that purchased the film already. I could also argue that the reason this sold what it did was due to A) The allure of a limited edition release and B) because it was marked down so cheaply in the end. I'm curious how many people would not have purchased this had it been on the shelf at Wal-Mart with a $14.99 price tag and no signs it was limited.

If it were sold at Walmart, no need for it to BE limited, would it?

It would be popular for a certain age group AND horror buffs in general. Maybe fans of Martin Sheen? Fans of the occult genre? We'll never know will we?

Why are you even arguing this? This would be a PLUS for SF, Code Red, Scorpion, etc.

I own the Eureka! edition as well and honestly I'm not sure what else Scream Factory can do. It's a great disc, region free, and available for under $15 USD...

Why are you even arguing this? This would be a PLUS for SF, Code Red, Scorpion, etc.
You implied that by simply having it in stores would somehow result in this film having sales equal to those of much more popular films. I argued that while yes, having it in stores would likely help sales some, it's not like people were ever beating down the door for the title and therefore it being in stores was no guarantee that it would have sold significantly more copies than what Twilight Time was able to get (after steep discounts) during their run. I then pointed out that at least a portion of the existing sales were due to the discounts and theorized that other purchases may have been a result of the Limited Nature and re-sale value usually associated with Twilight time releases. Had this been a Wal-Mart title at a msrp of $14.99 or more, it's hard to say whether the same number of purchases would have been made.

I'm not arguing against it being re-released, I generally am of the mindset that the more films on Blu Ray and the more versions of the film available, the better. I merely pointed out that I have doubts that the demands would be very high for this particular film. I do agree with the idea that exposure is often a problem for boutique label releases, but in this day and age I question how big an impact casual consumers will actually have on a title like this vs. something like Mad Max which clearly benefitted from it's partnership with Wal-Mart/Target/Best Buy.

Why does that matter though? I know who they are, you know who they are, most collectors know who they are. I don't particularly care if "the masses" know who they are or not.

I believe he's saying that they'd be more successful if they weren't so "niche".

Catch-22 though, since the majority of the movies they choose to salvage and adopt are what make them "niche" in the first place.

Mass consumers don't buy catalog blu-ray releases, so it's a moot point.

It matters if you want sales. I buy my stuff, I'm good. However, I'd like to continue, to buy "niche" movies. If these companies can't sell, they go out of business.

The other poster, was stating how long it took for stock of The Believers, to sell out. I basically said it would have sold better, in a store or a major store website.

So I buy directly from the likes of CR, Scorpion, etc., but when that Big Cartel store is closed (which is often), I like being able to go elsewhere to buy their stuff.

If they sell more units but lose out on profit-per-unit, it isn't necessarily a good fit for their business model.
