Fright Night 2 had a very brief availability on amazon instant video a little while ago with a pretty solid HD presentation so I'm hoping we will get an official blu ray release soon. The HD transfer really did look pretty nice. Not sure if it was the same presentation that's been on the bootleg blu rays.

It's Alive is fantastic; It Lives Again is very good; Island Of The Alive is OK.

Worth every penny for that boxset as the transfers are great. I love Larry Cohen films - so unpretentious and direct, almost like a B-movie Sam Fuller.

The It's Alive films, especially the first two are excellent. The first, more of a drama. The second is all out horror. The third was a bit off base the first time I saw it. It has some excellent moments and other times it seems off with its humor. Then later I saw it again and realized it was portraying the lack of sanity due to the situation. It clearly showcases the parents decent into madness.
Cohen has a biting edge displaying society problems and people falling apart from extreme predicaments.
Just like his "God Told Me To".

I agree the first is a classic, sequel is quite dark yet interesting and the third i thought was quite entertaining and fun with some of Larry's trademark humor yet interesting to see the babies grown into adults quickly in the third movie yet the rubber suits were goofy when they should had looked more like Kanamit from that Twilight Zone episode and less like Lord Crumb from Bad Taste.

What about Q or The Stuff or The Ambulance?

Can all you imagine Freaked if it got announced at the comic con in a CE?

Honestly, I’m not interested at all in these big studio deals that feel like bottom of the barrel feeding but they help cover for some of the obscure things they release. So speaking of pretty obscure horror with a surprisingly great cast, I’d like to see Distortions (1989, Armand Mastroianni). I’m not sure where the rights are on it since I can’t seem to find anything on it, likely independently owned.

Critters 2 is one of the GREAT Horror B-movie classics of the 80's. I needs that on BR.

Sci-fi and comedy it is too with action as well! i love it as much as the original yet almost surpasses it with that ball of critters to that hot blonde centerfold alien bounty hunter.

Very excited about the REC collection. Its pretty funny timing, my GF is spanish and wanted to watch the series with me. I told her to hold off and we'll wait for the blu ray box first.

I wonder if WB will release any horror type titles for October this year even if they have a deal with Scream? Would love to see Village of the Damned and Children of the Damed released finally no matter who does it.

YES! The original is a must, but I'd gladly pick up Children as well or better yet a double feature

I have a bootleg disc and it has a very very good transfer. It's probably a rip from an HD presentation.

P.S. Do you know why Fright Night Part 2 had a horrendous distribution deal and hasn't seen the light of day beyond a brief DVD release?

Yep, the bootleg disc is great. It's taken from an HDTV broadcast and would suggest that Paramount has at least broadcast rights to the film. Aside from that, it's a mystery who owns the home video rights to FNII in the US

The ongoing theory is that no one knows who owns the film. I find that just a little preposterous tbh. We're not talking about some no-budget little indy movie made by a guy just starting out - this was a polished sequel to a huge box office hit. Sure, it was distributed by an indy outfit for home video (I don't recall a theatrical distribution) but that shouldn't change anything. The indy outfit was swallowed by a bunch of other bigger indy outfits which were ultimately purchased by what's known today as Lionsgate. All I know is that whoever grabs the rights to the film better put out a huge collector's edition when it's finally released. I'm beginning not to give a crap about it anymore since I own a copy of the bootleg, which is satisfying. Not sure if I'd double dip on this, especially if it's barebones.

Part 2 has a muddy past. The reason is: at the time of release, one of the execs at Tri-Star pictures was in charge of distribution of home video rights....his sons murdered him and his wife in cold blood in the summer of '89. Their names: Lyle and Erik Menendez.

The last DVD release in 2003 was by Artisan, who is owned by Lionsgate.

There's a documentary put out by a British studio called "You're So Cool, Brewster" that covers this. It was a jaw-dropping revelation.

It actually did have a theatrical release, but a very short one. New Century/Vista released it to limited distribution in the US, and Tri-Star (who distributed the first film) released it overseas.

Shout did released one of New Century Vista's productions on BD and i believe they might do FN 1 and 2 this year as maybe this week or the beginning in July or at the comic con both might be announced which like i said FN would be perfect for those who don't own the foreign BDs while for those who already have the foreign BD of FN 1 can finally get 2 to complete the collection.

From what I gathered from the "You're so cool, Brewster" documentary it doesn't seem to be a rights issue. Just a matter of getting everyone involved with the film in gear to get it released. That's what it seemed like to me anyways. I really have no clue though. Very strange

Since SF now have a deal with Sony & they like putting out John Carpenter films I think we might get a collectors edition of Ghosts of Mars someday. I know a lot of people don't like it but I do & would buy a CE of it even though I have the OOP Sony release.
