![]() I guess this means that there is a real possibility that 'Candyman' will be a 4K disc from Sony as well. Digital is a nice plus too! |

Christine doesn't even have a real 4K master, does it? The original Twilight Time release and the subsequent releases have all been from the same 2K master I believe, so it'll most definitely just be an upscale

IIRC, the TT release and all of the worldwide Sony releases have the same 4K scan done by Sony.

I'm skimming through their sale that's going on right now and, for the most part, it seems like their prices are still generally a lot higher than what Amazon has on offer. $6.99 for standard shipping? What on Earth would make it that expensive?

![]() ![]() When an Arizona rancher, played by Rory Calhoun (Motel Hell), enlists in the help of a college researcher to keep his cattle grazing land from being overrun by rabbits, the researcher, played by Stuart Whitman (The Longest Day), proposes using a new hormone serum to disrupt the breeding cycle of the rabbit population. One of the injected test subjects escapes into the wild, and commences breeding. The countryside is soon overrun by massive horse-sized rabbits that have developed a taste for flesh. As rural towns are attacked by the creatures, who are able to gnaw through walls and floors to reach their human prey, the scientist must venture into deadly territory to rescue his wife, played by Janet Leigh (Psycho) and his daughter. Our protagonist and his university president, played by DeForest Kelley (Star Trek), join forces with the local authorities and the National Guard in order to prevent a full-scale rabbit apocalypse. The infamous 1972 eco-horror film, Night of the Lepus, is one of the most unintentionally comedic movies in existence, but the joy of watching it in this day and age lies in appreciating the lengths to which the cast and crew went to play it straight and treat this endeavor as an honest-to-goodness serious scary story. There's no possible way to make rabbits look threatening, but the filmmakers, God bless ‘em, used all means at their disposal to give it the good old college try. Most of this film consists of actual rabbits running in slow motion by miniature farm buildings, and my sincere admiration goes to the effects crew for making these scenes as convincing as possible. Aside from occasional shots of fake-looking green grass, these hare-raising rampage scenes with the real animals are better than anything that modern day digital effects would be able to accomplish. The attack scenes, which feature the close-ups of the rabbits with ketchup smeared on their faces to resemble blood, earn an A for effort. My favorite scene of Night of the Lepus involves a police officer standing in front of hundreds of cars at a movie drive-in and using a bullhorn to address them. “Attention! Attention! Ladies and gentlemen, attention! There is a herd of killer rabbits headed this way and we desperately need your help!” The MGM studio executives must have dangled some big carrots in front of Janet Leigh, Stuart Whitman, Rory Calhoun, DeForest Kelley, Paul Fix, and the other talented cast members to lure them into these roles. It's a testament to the professionalism of these actors that they were able to play their roles with straight faces and pull some solid performances out of their hats. The violent conclusion, which comes across as a rabbit attack version of Saving Private Ryan, is genuinely engaging, as the authorities use electricity and fire to corral the baleful bunnies to their destruction. The creative practical effects techniques all come together at this point, and the showdown is quite a sight to see, even if it begs to be taken seriously. You have never seen anything like Night of the Lepus, and you probably never will. This is reason enough for prospective viewers to hop over to their local Blu-ray store as soon as possible. This is one of those movies that I cannot imagine anyone outright disliking. Everything about it is ridiculous, but there's a lot of fun to be had. If you give this one a chance, then I guarantee that you will not have a bad hare day. This Scream Factory Blu-ray delivers a solid 2K restoration transfer that brings out the best of the special effects at hand with plenty of detail. The two commentary tracks, from historians Lee Gambin and Russell Dyball are stuffed with great information all around. Well done, Scream Factory! There is a French Blu-ray, and also a very nice German mediabook Blu-ray with awesome art that is region B locked. Diabolik had it for a while. Highly recommended. |

Don't know if it would make more sense for Shout Select or Scream but I'd like to see 187 on bluray. Kind of similar to Class of 1984 in a way? It's Warner so it's possible. Big fan of that bad class type of movie. I'd also really like to see Dangerous Minds and Dead Presidents (which I believe were Touchstone so Shout probably can't get them). Pay it Forward is another one that might be prime for Shout Select - it's a Warner title as well.

Miramax isn't owned by Disney or TWC anymore, the Weinsteins split with Disney and Miramax years ago over Fahrenheit 9/11 & Disney sold Miramax to Filmyard Holdings (who then sold it to beIN Media out of Qatar a couple years back). Lionsgate only has a distribution deal with Miramax for North America, they don't have ownership of any titles. If TWC still has the rights to Mother of Tears, those rights are now owned by Lantern Capital after they had the winning bid for all TWC assets last month.

Any chance of Scream Factory eventually releasing titles for the 4K UHD format?
