I have a feeling Zbinks may be correct here. That said, the majority of the distributions that United Film handled have been released by various companies such as "Choke Canyon" and "Retribution" by Code Red DVD, "Q" and "Conquest" by Blue Underground and of course "Knightriders" now with Shout Factory. It could be very well possible that the rights may have lapsed entirely and just reverted directly back to Romero. Either way, we're getting 2 great Romero films so far courtesy of Shout Factory.

Yeah, once I saw the 1968 date I thought the same thing actually. If it's with WB then we can just forget that anyways.

That's why is said it may not be Anchor Bay. If it is UFDC/LAUREL then maybe they picked up "Martin". Itsnt that with them too?

I'm pretty sure it was with Lionsgate.

Anchor Bay HAD "Season of the Witch" (1972) which probably went back to George Romero. It could be that also...

Can you imagine the candy colors on a Planet of the Vampires BD? That's actually my favorite Bava film. Queen of Blood is another wonderfully creepy horror/sci-fi hybrid. There was a battered-in-places but nicely detailed print of that shown on MGM-HD.

And not to get too far off-topic, but what a poster!

[Show spoiler]

Curtis Harrington is such an underrated director, I've always found his work interesting.

As many have said, its an extremely desired title. Since the Arrow announcement in particular, requests on Facebook and in the forums have boosted.

Default Martin

Martin would be so great. That film so works today. Modern day "vampire" movie while also an excellent character study. Very low budget film yet the feel of the film is raw and realistic. Romero has said that there was like a 4 hour black and white version but I believe nobody knows were it is. Thats a shame. Nice early work by both George A. Romero and Tom Savini. I would love Scream to release Martin on bluray.

I think this is the rightsholder company for "Martin" and "Dawn of the Dead", etc.
If this company is in fact the rights holders, I'd love to see Scream Factory at one point branch into television and pick up the rights to "Monsters". It really is one of the few remaining horror-themed shows lacking a legitimate release. "Freddy's Nightmares" being one of the other biggies that needs a release yesterday.

I think this is the rightsholder company for "Martin" and "Dawn of the Dead", etc. Its New Amsrerdam Films, which has the Romero co. Flicks.

And as for "Day of the Dead", this article seems to suggest that Taurus does infact own the rights, as I reported a while back. They also seem to have "Day of the Dead 2", and "Creepshow 3". But that's all that scream looked like they'd be interested in. Mainly because they said "A COUPLE from the same company as Day of the Dead". 2 is a couple.

Here's the link to Taurus Film's site if its not down again:

And another link to a different site listing their films:

At the bottom of the page it reads:

GEORGE A. ROMERO'S DAWN OF THE DEAD, its logo, the zombie head and all associated characters are TM of The MKR Group, Inc. © 1978, 2007 The MKR Group, Inc.
I took that as they were the company handling the films by MKR. Could be different, but this is what came up when I google MKR group and tried finding their films.

At least we know WHO owns it now.

I was wondering the same thing and couldn't find it on FB either. I looked on both the Shout Factory and Scream Factory pages and didn't turn up any hits although that doesn't necessarily mean I didn't miss it.

I couldn't find it either. Maybe Cliff mentioned it on his personal page as sort of an unofficial announcement?

Cliff how about a double-feature of The Ghoul and Legend of the Werewolf, two 1975 Tyburn Film Productions directed by Freddie Francis? I know the family are reticent to license them over here in the UK but perhaps things are different in the US? Would be great as these have never been officially released on DVD.

Yes, Cliff announced it on his personal page and later confirmed here noting that it would be a packed release.
