Good predictions, but I don't get why so many think Candyman is coming from SF. I know their repeated denial doesn't mean anything, but it just seems like a bad idea competing against an Arrow package for a similar release date.

Stay Tuned would be great too! love that one and anything to get rid of my old DVD in favor of a BD which never had one.

What a UK label is releasing really doesn’t matter much to US labels. They’re going to release what they have.

Then, when they finally came out, it seems neither sold very well at all.

I couldn't wait for them, and bought them both immediately.

Yet people keep buying the same titles over and over. And we wonder why Warner and Shout and others just keep the double dips coming all the time, and won't bother with most older deep catalog titles anymore.
I was surprised, too. I snatched those releases as soon as they were announced, since I figured they'd be sold out pretty quickly.

I love Fright Night. It's one of my favorites. But there is no way they could outdo the release from Eureka. That's a fantastic release, and it's region free for those who (for some reason) still haven't gone region free.

This list seems pretty realistic to me. Although I would maybe switch out Over the Top for Demolition Man.

As for Road Warrior, I'm pretty sure they're aware of its cult value but Warner is not very keen on producing extra features for their catalog titles, unless it's a classic film like The Exorcist.
Miller went on record during interviews well over a year ago saying that he'd love to do a sequel and already has 2 scripts ready to go. He planned to elaborate more on the guitar wielding "hood ornaments" (I'm not joking) seen in fury road and to flesh out their backstory while continuing onward with the franchise in at least one of the scripts. Both Charlize Theron and Tom hardy were on board to resume their roles as well.

No sequels happened squarely because of Warner Bros. Last Winter Miller also sued Warner for failing to deliver on a $7 million bonus for coming in under budget on Fury Road, to which Warner claims Miller did go over budget. That Lawsuit to the best of my knowledge is still pending.

Warner doesn't care about the Mad Max films. They are ripe for the taking for Scream Factory.

It's all the more curious considering what a surprising Oscar contender FURY ROAD ended up being too. And it won 6, and still had the Picture/Director nominations under its belt!

Isn't Miller suing Warner saying he's owed money for Fury Road? Depending on egos and the overall situation, that may stunt some future releases of anything Mad Max related in WBs eyes. I could be (and hopefully am!) wrong, but I feel like movie studios might as well be called Heartbreakers cause they're Petty as f*ck.

[Show spoiler] see what i did there?

But I've been holding off on the Mad Max collections cause I feel like something better, and more stacked, should be on the horizon!

Oh yeah, that's the above conversation. But I mean one would (hope? expect?) Warner to maybe try and have a good working relationship with Miller considering how successful their 2015 collaboration ended up critically.

I think "Hollywood Accounting" is the big reason behind the George Miller/Warner Bros. lawsuit.

The movie looks so damn amazing, Warner doesn't want to admit Miller shot the film for a much smaller budget than what's shown on screen.

One would hope! I know I do! I just know from listening to a lot of directors and actors discussing lawsuits on various podcasts, the consensus is it rarely goes well for the individuals involved, with the studio going to lawyer-town on them. But licensing out Road Warrior and Thunderdome may be off their radar regarding the Fury Road lawsuit. I would love to add solid releases to my collection.

Peter Berg’s hugely underrated Dark comedy Very Bad Things would also make for a great announcement!

My post kind of got lost in the shuffle - but I think we might see some surprise Lionsgate owned announcements, which would definitely have that "huge" factor. Maybe they gave it a try with the Vestron label but are realizing it's not worth their time and might ultimately be more successful licensing out.

Very Bad Things was in a short list of titles someone posted to Kino Lorber Insider, and he confirmed that they had several off the list. Wouldn't be surprised if this is one of them.

The differences between budgets from what Miller claims and what Warner claims is something like 30 million dollars. (156 million to 186 million roughly). Warner claims that they recommended that an alternate ending be completed for the film and that various re-shoots happen, where as Miller claims he was told he had to shoot the different ending and various re-shoots. It's very likely that this ending reshoot is where the $30 million difference came about and while neither party is willing to accept responsibility.

Considering how successful the film was and how critically acclaimed it turned out to be... while also remembering that both leads want to return and there are at least 2 other scripts out there ready to go, Warner should have just sucked it up and fast tracked the next batch of films as they could have easily recouped those funds over the course of the next 2 entries. Now instead they'll get nothing as if/when a new sequel ever does materialize it will in all likelihood not have either Hardy or Theron and will likely be dramatically different looking and feeling. Talk about wasted opportunity. "Forget the potential $250 million+ we can make on the sequels... I don't want to have to pay $7 million to Miller".

I doubt that would be this year, but I hope it eventually comes to where SF can strike a deal with Lionsgate, who are sitting on a gold mine of awesome films. Being that they're now dealing with Sony and Warner (which I never thought would happen) there's a possibility that Paramount and Lionsgate would be open to such deals. I enjoy the Vestron line, but I'd like to see them release titles with more regularity. Since Shout Factory is all about volume, I can't see why these deals aren't more attractive to the bigger studios. Hopefully Lionsgate and others will take note of SF's sales, and will start to get on board.

This is unfortunately why a lot of great films don't get made, and why a lot of great directors lose interest in filmmaking.

Referring to my last post - it may have already happened. Shout just announced the Saved by the Bell collection. The previous collection was released by Lionsgate. Unless in the past, Lionsgate licensed it out from someone? Which doesn't seem like something they would do.
