Yep. It looks like I might as well cancel all my scream pre-orders.

That's what declining physical media sales, bad QC that leads to pricy replacement programs, and so much negative fan reaction to almost everything they do gets you.

Yeah, except Lifeforce is discounted to $21.99 so that theory doesn't hold water. Creepshow is MONTHS away from release. The price will 100% drop before then.

People could still technically preorder Scream Factory titles through other retailers without actually preordering, couldn't they? Anyone who sells Blu-rays and isn't Amazon could set a preorder price, say, $22.99, and sell it at that price. Problem solved.

I would totally pick up a Shout! Select edition of The Mask. The Blu-ray is ancient, and apparently wasn’t even that good when it came out 11 years ago. My DVD is a late 90s edition, but I’m content with it until something truly good arrives (it’s probably the same master anyway).

I also listened to the new podcast and really don't understand the disconnect. How can they complain about low sales when their prices are some of the highest among the labels? Lots of sales at a lower per unit profit must be better than very few at a higher cost?
how is more sales at a lower price gonna equal more profit? you have to sell more units to get the same return, so you're technically losing money. the volume that you would have to do to see a difference is probably larger than the amount of units produced.

Default is Shout's customer service department trapped in a mine?

I've been trying to get somebody at Shout Factory to answer a question for me about an unfulfilled order for days now, and can't get a response of any sort.

Anybody else had any problems like that with them?

I've found them to be great at communication and taking care of issues. Have always gotten swift responses from them.

Lifeforce is listed for preorder at other sites (the $21.99 is Walmart’s price), so of course Amazon has a reason to drop their price. We’re talking about titles that aren’t listed at any retailer but Amazon. Titles like Return of the Living Dead 2 and Brainscan aren’t listed anywhere else and Amazon is keeping them at SRP, because they can.

Only if another retailer has it listed for cheaper. When a title isn’t listed at another site, Amazon has no competition, so they keep the price at SRP.

Perhaps the only good thing that comes of a push for less obscure titles is an emphasis on a NOES set next year?

I got charged for my Lifeforce preorder (Shout site). Wooooo! I got two other titles with it, so hopefully it's packaged securely.

Eh, no one knows their profit margins, especially with WB titles. If I want it bad enough I'll get it. With all the streaming sites popping up were lucky were getting this many physical media releases as it is. The margins have to be there to even bother doing it.

Sounds like if physical format is in fact dying if we hold onto our movie collection we might be millionaires 50 years from now when all the out of print physical movie releases become rare collector items.

Netflix's physical rental business was the only profitable portion of the company last year with the streaming service costing the company millions. The idea that Streaming services are profitable and the way of the future is still a bit of a fallacy. People like and yes still want physical media beyond just these websites we're on right now. Just the other day I stumbled across an article on a general entertainment site calling on Netflix to issue physical presentations of it's exclusive films.

Shout Factory are not doing us favors by releasing these films. We are doing them favors by purchasing them. Shout Factory has always overcharged on releases to a certain extent, however we're often able to give them a pass and look past it thanks to the large number of releases they consistently put out and the generally high quality of them.

Look no further than the average price of a new release IFC film before the Shout Partnership and immediately after to get an idea on what kind of markup shout feels they can demand. I'm grateful for every film they have released but they're clearly a business with less concern for their fans then they at times like to convey. That's fine of course, and like you most of us will continue to pick up titles when they reach price points we feel comfortable with, but their current efforts reek of anti-consumerism and deserve to be called out repeatedly every chance we get.

I'm sure this title has been talked about many times before but can any member shed any light on why this film still hasn't gotten a US Blu release ?
Anyone think Scream Factory would be able to get this in the near future ? I really want this is in my collection.

We’ve been asking for it for years. It’s probably with a Lionsgate.

Just looking up the distributor, who went out of business nearly 30 years ago, their library is owned by StudioCanal.

Thank you for the quick reply guys !!!

Even if Lionsgate decided to license this from Studio Canal I really don't expect it to get a release anytime soon......I think their Vestron line has only released 4 titles all year and they are only planning one more release for the remainder of the year.

Lionsgate moves at a Snails Speed, if they just released The Wraith & Trick or Treat, I would be happy.
