I'm working my way through the back episodes of the Movie Crypt podcast, hosted by directors Adam Green and Joe Lynch, and there's a great Scream Factory interview from December 2017 on there, if anyone's interested. Good stuff.

Question:

If I place an order on shout for 10 titles or so, say like 5 would be preorders, would they ship out as their released or do they hold until all titles on your order are available?

The ship separately when available. There is an option at checkout to hold all of the shipments and ship at once, but if that box is not checked, then they ship when the title becomes available.

Hmmm... I don't remember seeing any mention of this at the time. Here's the link in case anyone's interested: https://moviecrypt.libsyn.com/ep-236-scream-factory

It looks like the film is with Moonstone Entertainment (under the name Mickey, for some reason). Vinegar Syndrome and MVD have licensed films from them before, so they might have more of an "in" on it.

They should use media mail regardless (or offer it as an option).

I wonder if Walt Disney himself ever had this goal in mind. Make great movies but limit their release to the public.
Wouldn't it be something if Scream could work out a deal to release the director's cut of Something Wicked This Way Comes, especially given the filmmakers' eagerness to participate?

Two years after their initial release, Scream Factory reissue John Carpenter's classic THE THING (1982) in a Limited Edition steelbook with an upgraded 4K scan.

Quote:
***New 3-Disc THE THING Steelbook! ***

Ever since we started releasing Steelbook® packaging of some of our prior John Carpenter titles, we been asked many times if we could also do this for his signature classic film THE THING. Today we’re happy to announce that we are doing just that and even upgrading our previous in the process! Read on for more details:

• Official street date is November 6th for U.S. and Canada territories (Region A).

• This is a 3-Disc Blu-ray set. Disc 1 will include a more recent 2017 4K High-Definition scan of the film that was provided to us from the film’s licensor. Discs 2 and 3 will be the same content that is currently available on our 2016 Collector’s Edition release.

• Only 10,000 units of the steelbook are being produced total.

• The artwork you see pictured on both come to us from by artist Nathanael Marsh (who also illustrated our prior Carpenter-themed steelbooks, including Halloween II & III). If you order directly from our site though, your packaging will also include an exclusive 28.5” x 16.5” rolled lithograph of the illustration. (The litho will not be available elsewhere and only 1,500 of them each are being made). The site offer with the litho can be found at https://www.shoutfactory.com/product...roduct_id=6883

I've heard rumors of the Fog, Prince of Darkness, and They Live all getting real 4K editions from other labels later this year, so instead of rebuying all these Carpenter steelbooks, I'm probably going to wait for these other editions. I have the Arrow version of the Thing, too. Wonder if this one will look better. Isn't the Arrow also a 4K scan? I'm all about JC in 4K; already have Halloween and Christine 4Ks preordered. But not sure I can justify buying it again.

Nope but the only thing new is the 4K restoration from the original negative and that's a positive.

I can't wait to get the new Thing blu-ray as i have the previous BD from 2016 and Arrow's BD is region B and i can only play Region 0 and Region A BDs so this is good news for me! i'm gonna pre-order it myself.

I also can't wait for Starman's CE BD and hope it has either 2K or 4K restoration and some quality extras, i can't wait until October to hear what extras will be announce and what kind of restoration will it be. Afterall i'm glad i didn't buy the previous bareboned BD and sold my DVD to the library.

I've still not bothered upgrading my Universal disc of the Thing. The Scream Factory edition has slowly been creeping it's way up my priority list with its $14.99 price tag. I don't like steelbooks in most cases and like the lower price point of the first release for sure, but I do like the idea of a new/fresh scan and the best presentation if I'm going to double dip. I'm not really sure which version I'll pick up now.
