I was quite curious as to why The Burning and From Beyond on DVD were now out of print, I got my answer when I saw the announcements.

Can't say for sure, but I wouldn't think so.

Actually, I've watched MGM's The Burning DVD upconverted on my BR player, and if you didn't know any better you might think it's a blu-ray. It achieves that HD pop in quite a few instances. It's a beautiful disc, especially for a DVD.

I'm excited to see the film in real hi-definition. It should be gorgeous.

I'm happy for both! Glad that Evictors is included in the Town package, but strange that its only on the DVD. It'll be mucho compressed sharing a DVD with Town. Even if all they have is an SD master, why not just throw it on the Blu? Also, will there be a reversible cover showing that this is actually a double feature?

Not complaining, just asking questions. I will buy day 1 no matter what.

Ah that explains it. Well, at least fans should be happy then.

Does anyone else think Scream should only give the "Collector's Edition" banner to movies that atleast have new or ported over audio commentary. It's honestly the only reason why I didn't buy "Terror Train" but got every other "Collector's Edition" release including "Deadly Blessing" which arrived today, a little late to order I know, blind buy too none the less.

Then again you can argue "Terror Train" featured 4 new (I think?) interviews with cast/crew and it came with the DVD.

The director bailed on the commentary after showing up to record it. Not every release can have a commentary if no one is willing to talk about the movie, especially when those scheduled to do so drop out at literally the last second. Scream and Red Shirt do what they can to plan and produce extras, but ultimately they're dependent on the participation of others and the whims of human nature.

Cliff is there any possibility down the line you might release it as a standalone DVD, perhaps a limited Shout! site exclusive? Or perhaps a reversible cover on the combo pack with split Evictors/Town art? Both unlikely I guess, but still I am very grateful to finally own these classic horrors.

I don't think so.. but you never know

Didn't have that information, I would be pissed about it if I was truly looking forward to that release.

The director apparently didn't really have much to say? Whatever.

I didn't know that. Thats a shame. You know, one thing I would like to see more are fan appreciation commentary tracks. Roger Avery did one for Day of the Dead and Hard Boiled and was very good. Kevin Smith did one before. I imagine for some cult favorites, you could dig up somebody.

David Fincher did one for "Chinatown." That's a big one.

Are we talking about Roger Spottiswode or Wes Craven?

True, but if a director realized that he really had nothing worthwhile to say about the film, and might not ever remember much about it, you can't really blame him for deciding not to record the commentary. Would you rather have a lame commentary with long gaps of silence and people pointlessly describing onscreen action that we can clearly see for ourselves? There are enough of those kinds of commentaries out there already, no need to add to the list. As you note, the release does have four featurettes totaling 44 minutes, which is pretty solid, and likely comparable or superior to what the sum total of Spottiswoode's contributions to the commentary would have been. Although that does give it a smaller and shorter collection of extra material than their other CE releases, that's more of a statement on how exhaustive and extensive the other releases really are, and not a reflection of Terror Train's (relative) skimpiness.

Spottiswoode. Craven has plenty to say on the Deadly Blessing track (nicely assisted by Sean Clark, who is helpful but unobtrusive) including the rather disturbing anecdote that the crew applauded when John Lennon's assassination was announced. Way to reenforce those Southern stereotypes, boys..

Yeah I read about that John Lennon story, oh my god is that very dickish.

But too bad Spottiswode had to bail. He really didn't have much to say about Terror Train? Odd that he'd agree then bail at the last minute.

I believe Spottiswoode had some comments about the film in the book Jamie Lee Curtis: Scream Queen. Been a while since I've read it, but Curtis herself contributes as well, and I think Derek McKinnon and Timothy Webber too. So for any fans of the film, the book is a nice companion piece.
