For the most part, I tend to pre-order Shout Factory titles directly from the Shout Factory site several months in advance. As of right now, I've pre-ordered all of my wanted Shout Factory Blu-rays through the month of December.
I try my best to place my batch pre-orders during sales, like during this month's back-to-school sale, but I don't always wait for sales. I'm not a wealthy person (I'm a government employee, in fact.), and I know that I could save a few bucks on these titles if I simply pre-ordered them from Amazon Prime. My latest pre-order of November and December titles totaled $167 and change from Shout, but, had I ordered the same titles from Amazon, they might well have totaled $140 or even $130 after price drops during the time interval. However... 1. After I pre-order the titles from Shout Factory via PayPal, it's a done deal. No worries. No price point checking. No periodic checking of Amazon prices. No concerns about shipping or packaging. No worries about limited edition titles selling out. No worries. 2. I'm directly supporting one of the coolest companies in existence. 3. If I order, for example, $300 worth of Shout Factory titles that are set to be released September through December all in one go, then, despite the fact that I ordered them all at once, Shout Factory lovingly ships each separate title to me as it is released instead of waiting until all of the titles are released to fulfill my order. That's just cool. If I happen to have some excess disposable income this month, then I can go to the Shout site, pre-order a ton of titles that I want that are being released over the next several months, and then just enjoy receiving them one-by-one in the mail in the months to come without dwelling on the issue later on. If something unfortunate happens in my life...if I lose my job all of a sudden...if all of the money is stolen from my bank account...if I need to buy a new truck all of a sudden...and I'm suddenly in a situation where frugality is important...then I'll still have a steady trickle of Shout Factory titles delivered to my door from now through December, because I already spent that money, and it's already a done deal. |

I've used PayPal when I pre-ordered ROTLD 2 and TCM 4. Not worrying about holding charges is great.
As for Creepshow, I dropped the amount SF is asking for their CE when I bought the OOP UK blu-ray, so while I don't doubt Scream Factory can trump the Second Sight disc, I'm pretty satisfied enough with it as is. |

If Scream Factory wants to be taken seriously with this new pricing structure then they need to improve their physical presentations dramatically. As it stands they appear to be copying the wrong company. Instead of trying to emulate Arrow they seem to be copying Vestron and are offering less for more money. So long as Arrow offers premium styled cases, booklets and posters inside most releases that aren't a website exclusive all for the same price or less than the now standard Scream Factory price point, they will continue be be the best genre releasing label. If Scream Factory wants me to pre-order at these prices they will need to do a helluva lot better than 2 weeks early shipping and maybe a poster if I order early enough. Fixing their ridiculous shipping costs would also go a long way. Hamiltonbooks somehow manages to ship me as many movies as I can fit in an order for $4, Arrow ships from the UK for under $5, Family Video offers free shipping at $25, Amazon, Best Buy, Wal-Mart all have much better free shipping thresholds yet somehow I'm supposed to believe that it costs $6.99 to ship a single movie directly from Shout Factory. I've had literal boxes of movies that weigh several pounds sent to me via media mail for under $5. The delivery time was also around 5 days, not much longer than what priority or first class would have been. Shout Factory can and should do better on all of these points if they expect folks to continue to support price increases with day one purchases. I was very gung ho earlier this summer for the fall slate and was prepared to pre-order more titles than I ever have before from them, but as I've said before... I can be patient. If this is the direction Scream Factory wants to go, I hope there are enough of the apologists willing to pony up for these pre-orders on multiple titles to help offset what Scream Factory is losing by those of us that are now content to wait. |

I imagine Scream is seeing sales drop due to the fact that the indie/cult boutique label field is much more crowded than it was when they launched their Blu-Ray line, so they're trying to force direct sales at higher prices in ways that some consumers clearly find shallow and off-putting. The irony is that it's just going to encourage customers like me to wait on SF titles and spend my money at those other labels who are simply killing it right now. |

While I do think their newfound pricing methods are a little absurd, it's clear to me they're a bit strapped for cash within these last few weeks.
Perhaps the rumor of the Exorcist II BD going overbudget created this sudden hunt for more money, hence the games they've been playing. |

How is your obsession with a 40 year-old television show any less "fanboyish" than someone supporting a current label? Is it because you watched it during its initial run? You've reminded everyone time and time again...

My only current obsession is figuring out, as a fairly new member, how to take advantage of the ignore function. Its pretty sad that I have to, but not nearly as sad as a grown man in his fifties picking fights on an internet thread that deals with a subject hes clearly opposed to. I get it, though. Latching onto pop culture figures is a good way to tell yourself that being alone is okay. Enjoy your night, and try not to feel above anyone before you hit the hay.
