Shout Factory does free shipping on orders $50 and up, yeah? I go in to buy House on Haunted Hill and Trick r' Treat. My total? $49.86.

I'm honestly am telling the truth as in some theaters, there is a Oct 29, 2018 release date for Dawn of the Dead 3D in theaters.

I'm not sure if it's just a limited release or not, and Rubinstein's website makes no mention of any of it.
Looks like a limited theatrical release in some markets for the 29th of next month. I think Rubenstein was just preparing to get this 3D version for the 40th anniversary and that was his plan.

I think Arrow might get the Dawn BD.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on a BD for Dawn of the Dead, but you never know with the 40th anniversary next year (though I guess it technically premiered in Italy a year earlier). Maybe Shout and Arrow could collaborate like with Candyman.

I didn't think you were lying- sorry if it came off that way! I just checked to see if there were any screenings near me, but I couldn't find any screenings anywhere.

The only double I’d love to see from Shout is “A History of Violence”. Such a great film ruined by a waxy image.

I think it's a little bit funny now that we're still talking pricing. I get it, people don't like paying more. In Canada I've been paying a lot for Shout titles as long as I can remember. $25 before, $30 now. Still going to buy something I really want, but I've always had to be selective or wait for a price drop (HMV used to be decent but they're gone now). Let's try to see the glass half full for a second. For years, we've had decent pricing on titles we thought would never see the light of day on blu-ray. Looking back, they used to have very good sales too. I think the first time I came across them I bought 15 titles during one of their sales because the prices were great. If you look at other "specialty" movie companies out there (Disney, Criterion, Arrow, Vestron, etc.) they're priced high, they've always been priced high and people still buy them with less complaints. At least we had a good ride up until now! Maybe they were under priced before as they needed to establish themselves, and now with bigger deals on the table and more operating costs, they've had to increase prices to prices that are more in line with these other companies. As long as they keep pumping out titles no one else wants to release, I'm happy. I don't think any of us would be happy with the alternative to that. Food for thought.

Great post!

However, the posts where Shout/Scream is throwing widows and orphans out into the street are considerably more entertaining.

I think if they had simply raised their prices, the complaints would've been short lived. It was the way they have gone about it that has caused problems. Prohibiting retailers from listing the items, delaying access to those retailers to after street date, seemingly telling them what price they can sell for (which seems to be against the idea of an open market, and anti-competitive) among other tactics, all left many people with a bad taste. They seem to be bullying their retail partners.

Nah, you guys would have complained constantly anyway...its the way of the internet. I could care less about the retail partners, and you guys dont either, its bogus outrage, you just want things cheaper just be honest about that and stop throwing in the poor retailers part.

Finally got around to picking up Hell Night, which is a movie that slipped through the cracks for me over the years and was a blind buy. Gotta say, It was quite good and the transfer was not as bad as my expectations had been set. I even liked it more than The Burning, which was another that slipped through the cracks.

It's funny, I've never seen anyone praise any of Shout's sales. On the contrary - people have always said their sales usually suck. Are people thinking of finding Scream Factory titles at Best Buy for $14.99? That's an anomaly and has nothing to do with Shout Factory.

On the subject of other labels' prices being high and no one complaining, those labels output VERY high quality Blu-rays in premium packaging with booklets. I have ZERO complaints with either Arrow or Criterion. Plus, I typically find their titles under $26. I haven't paid $30 for a single disc Criterion in a long time. Hell, Tree of Life was $22.99.

Shout's frequent "missteps" don't warrant the high prices. And neither does their obsession with using IPs instead of OCNs for their scans. You can't charge premium prices if you don't create a premium product.

Has anyone been able to find out any more about this situation.

Based on the fact that my TRICK 'R' TREAT hasn't even shipped yet, and the reason given in their email was "we've been reduced to a single factory producing these discs, and so supplies are low", could that possibly having some sort of impact/influence on this whole thing?

Not saying they couldn't be handling it better but, I am curious.

Also....curious to see what sales October brings on their site. Currently, there isn't anything (that I haven't already pre-ordered) that I feel like using my "Sorry your movie is delayed, here is 4 dollars" code on.

Arrow and Criterion regularly have sales on their websites that far surpass anything Shout does, as well as Barnes and Noble offering 50% off sales for both Arrow and Criterion multiple times during the year.

The only sale that was pretty much universally praised was the 50% off sale they had in June 2017. The same 50% off sale that Criterion, Kino, Vinegar Syndrome, Severin, etc have multiple times per year, every year.

Quote:

Except for the titles that BB have designated $14.99 as the regular price, the $14.99 sale prices have pretty much dried up since Shout changed their business practices.

WHOA! What? I had no idea they do 50% off sales for Arrow sometimes.

I always get emails when they start the Criterion events.

The one time I remember seeing an "ad" for a big Arrow sale, most of the titles are a whopping 7% off.

As for Shout/Scream sales. They've been hit or miss for me. Sometimes they have a few great titles on sale, but they're ones that were big enough that I got them on release day.

A few times they've been some solid deals on releases I didn't want at full price, but definitely would snag 3-4 of them at 12-14 bucks.

And then there are also plenty of times where the sales are on the releases most people never asked for nor wanted (and rightly so). Such as ROBOCOP 3. In those cases it really feels like they're just trying to unload as many of their crap sellers as they can.

An October sale is coming. Since October 1st is Monday, it could start then. You probably won’t be able to use your $4 code though, since codes are normally disabled during sales.
