I'm under the impression neither film is owned by Compass International Pictures / Trancas International Films. I'm under the impression Fade to Black is owned by either George G. Braunstein or Sylvio Tabet, while Hell Night is apparently owned by Bruce Cohn Curtis.

Anybody else still not getting a response from SF about the defective Trick r Treat disc replacement? I sent an email last Wednesday and still no response.

Richie, a young boy played by Scott Sealey, is struggling to come to terms with the divorce of his parents, played respectively by Kerwin Mathews (The 7th Voyage of Sinbad) and Elaine Devry (Man-Trap). One evening, when he is staying with his father at the family's mountain cabin, the two of them are attacked by a werewolf and the father is bitten. The boy tries to convince his parents and the police of the truth, but his panicked recollections are dismissed as the work of an overactive imagination due to his family situation. When his father turns into a werewolf during the next full moon, and mutilated bodies of murdered locals are discovered, Richie must find a way to warn his mother before they both become the next victims.

The PG-rated 1973 horror film, The Boy Who Cried Werewolf, which was directed by creature feature extraordinaire Nathan Juran (20 Million Miles to Earth, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad), incorporates just enough intensity and implied bloodshed to engage adult fans of scary cinema, but it is also mild enough to serve as a gateway drug to introduce younger viewers to the genre. This movie is so outlandishly 1970s that it should have a warning label. We've got a California forest setting, we've got a hippie commune, and we've even got a rather eccentric child psychologist, played by George Gaynes, whom I will always associate with his role as Henry Warnimont in the Punky Brewster television series and with his recurring appearances as Commandant Lassard in the Police Academy films. Finally, on the 1970s front, we've got two scenes of vehicles flipping over and over down mountain embankments. (I've been watching movies for 46 years, and the sight of a vehicle tumbling down a mountain embankment until it explodes never gets old.)

Be on the lookout for the talented supporting actor, Robert J. Wilke (High Noon, The Magnificent Seven), as a local sheriff who ignores the boy's werewolf warnings. Be on the lookout as well for Susan Foster (Billy Jack) as one of the victims.

The Boy Who Cried Werewolf features a couple of nods to the 1941 Universal Monsters classic, The Wolf Man, by way of a cane and by way of the commune, which is reminiscent of the gypsy caravan in that film.

This Scream Factory Blu-ray may be minimal with regard to extras, but it delivers an impressive video presentation, albeit with occasional “cigarette burns” print damage.
Thanks for this review, I was racking my brain over the title of this film. Watch a Hammer film with Kerwin Matthews last week and remembered this werewolf movie he was in but could not for the life of me recall the title, I knew Scream released it and that I owned it, but had no idea what it was called. And with a collection of 5,000 plus titles I didn't know where to start looking. Mystery is solved now!

I sent an email too and haven't heard back either.

Since I watched it last night and had no playback issues, I'm not going to press it.

Has anyone brought this to their attention via their Facebook page, or did they purge the messages? I took a quick look and didn't see any posts about it.

No response for me either, and I'm getting a little annoyed. I did have playback issues, but I didn't want to rain in on the forum about it.

General Question: Has anyone had any experience with cancelling Scream Factory pre-orders paid with PayPal? (Through the Shout website directly.) I paid via PayPal at the time the order was placed, and the titles don't come out until December, so would they just refund the amount to my PayPal account?

Sadly, I actually thought I'd get a faster and more direct response here rather than contacting Shout's customer service...

Emailing them is the only thing I would know to do.

Why do you want to cancel the order? Just wondering.

Somebody said they were working on "Fade to Black". That could mean acquiring the rights.

Changed my mind on one of the titles, and my primary incentive on purchasing the others direct was to receive them early - which is kind of up in the air now. I imagine the rest of the holiday season is going to have quite a few delays this year.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but I believe Scream Factory releases come from Kentucky typically.

This.

As for who owns the rights to FTB, I asked him and he said he was not sure. So it's definitely not Trancas.

It's likely with whatever remains of Compass, since it was also on the double feature DVD with Hell Night (which SF also got from Compass).

Another possibility it's with the current owners of the American Cinema Productions catalog, Gorilla Pictures (who licensed out some titles to Scorpion like The Octagon). ACP was the distributor for FTB and their logo still appears on the Amazon Prime source, though appears to be an older SD master as it lacks the Gorilla Pictures logo.
