There's a segment of the collecting population that buys whatever titles they like and are not buying because of some distorted mantra that they need to support everything the label does no matter what. There's probably an official disease or condition that would apply to people who fit this description and I feel sorry for them. They should seek help immediately.

Personally, I've never said I was going to stop buying Shout Factory product because of this new pricing strategy. I've expressed my displeasure about the situation on more than one occasion but I've never said I was going to stop buying. There will always be something they release I want - I just won't be buying it day one at inflated prices.

I am.

I completely cut Shout out of my future buying habits because of their strong arming the little guy and their new MAP pricing (which I see as nothing more than just plain price gouging with their current laundry list of problems). I only had to cancel one pre order to make the clean break. I haven't been posting much in this thread because I really see no reason to. Shout has made a decision to jack up prices, and I’ve made the decision to no longer support them. Done.

side note: Luckily I live in the Bay Area and have many good locations I a can buy used from. If they release anything in the future I may want, I’ll keep my eye out for a traded in copy.

I quoted the post to which I was responding, so it is very easy to see that 0% of what was said had anything to do with the movies, it was 100% devoted to mocking anybody who would dare to say anything critical about the label.

You so don't get it...I for one am not defending Shout at all. I have money to blow so I blow it. I dont care about your pricing outrage, I care about buying and watching movies I want to watch when I want to do so no matter who sells them. Life is short. You guys just go on and on like these are real problems and were all supposed to join hands and sing kumbaya in outrage harmony...I dont care. Want to talk movies Im all in but the pricing outrage train has been ridden off the rails.

I fully intend to keep supporting Scream like the other boutique labels, just using my own title by title valuation of what they are worth to me. I can say their pricing has made me eliminate many B and C level titles (per my own personal stack ranking) and double dips that I might have picked up without a second thought prior.

I drastically reduced my spending with Shout Factory and have shifted my buying happily over to hundreds of extra dollars spent in the last few months with Vinegar Syndrome, Severin, Synapse, Arrow and UHD 4k movies.

I have bought some crucial titles (mostly on a discount at FYE) or kept my pre-orders but some titles I would have surely purchased before that I have easily passed on with no plans to buy include Exorcist II, REC Collection, House on Haunted Hill, The Craft, The Thing Steelbook, Trick 'r' Treat, Night of the Demons Steelbook, Kalifornia, Sleepwalkers, Urban Legend, The Mangler, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation.. I'm sure the list will keep on growing.

I’m here because I’m holding out hope that Shout will see the error in their ways, and make some sort of statement (or make some sort of price change) in good faith of their customer base. If either of those things happen, this would be the best place to get the most up to date information.

NeMo_ET asked a question. I answered.

This is so true. I was buying any title at Best Buy over the past year in stock in stores, for example - Pretty much anything priced under $20. I don't think I'd bother ordering many of those titles in the mail and especially at a $10 price hike. It's a huge misstep for Shout IMO to lose in-store distribution and a retail footprint at a time like this - they are just further contributing to stores like Best Buy trying to kill the physical media market. I know I have far less incentive to stop into my store and browse anything because I know for a fact I won't find a neat Shout Factory title on the shelf to buy.

Says the old man to get off his lawn. lol

And actually I did add to the discussion, I just didnt say what you wanted me too. Not everyone is either a price hater or a Shout lover...always more than two sides.

I was like "Those bastards ! They will never get me to pay that much ! ". Then they go and announce titles like The Mole People, Tarantula, The Deadly Mantis, The Return of the Vampire, The Body Snatcher, Willard and yes, even Munchies ( I love that movie). They have me by the b***s. I'm weak. I can't resist. It's like the rumored Criterion Godzilla box set. Tell me what the ransom is and I will pay it....

Just saw Silent Night Deadly Night part II for the first time... all I have to say is:

[Show spoiler]garbage day

Seriously though, the first half is tedious since it just re-uses footage from the original, but the second half is good cheesy fun... I had a blast!!

Not boycotting shout all together. That is silly. I'm not ordering from their site or amazon, and I'm not buying any map pricing movies until down the road when the price is adjusted.

I was a much more loyal SF customer a few months ago. Six months ago I would have pre-ordered Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Next Generation, Critters, 8MM, and Single White Female. But I haven't ordered any of those because of their higher prices. I'll wait until they drop in price or buy them on the second-hand market.

I *did* order Candyman because of the 4K restoration and because it dropped to $25 on Amazon at some point.

I also ordered Urban Legend because I didn't already own it and it also dropped to $25 briefly on Amazon.

I'm currently holding out on The Craft - one of my favorite films of all time - because 1) I know it won't get a new scan which is the most important reason to double-dip for me and 2) I want to see if the new bonus features are worth dropping $25-$35 on. If not, I'll pass.

It was a lot more willing to double-dip or buy a new SF release when they hovered around $18-$22.

I’ve cancelled more pre-orders than I have actually made purchases. With that, I still got a handful of titles over the last few months, but it would have been WAY more if the prices dropped on them.

Maybe one day I’ll grab Brainscan, Single White Female, House on Haunted Hill, the Mangler, SNDN 2, Starman...and various others, but not today Scream!! Maybe next year? I do wanna check out Man’s Best Friend...

Minus the 5.1 shiz I was very impressed with creepshow and the Critters set...and I’m just glad to finally own TCM:TNG

The $45 I paid for The Critters boxed set was a great deal imo.

You'd have said the same thing if you paid $85.

For me it really depends on the title and how much I really want it with their pricing. I will say this, if they get the Japanese audio for the Street Fighter films, I'd buy that at $100 no problem.
