I loved Zombie and Deep Red, but the first time I saw Inferno and City of the Living Dead I wanted to bash my brains in because of how nonsensical they both were. |

These are both excellent recommendations for someone trying to get into Italian horror. They are dubbed, but they're both very accessible films.
And since the original poster appears to be a slasher fan (The Prowler, Graduation Day, Final Exam), then Stage Fright should be a sure thing. It's a terrific slasher film, and a must-see for genre fans. As for the rest of the films the original poster listed, I'd say they are risky purchases for someone who didn't like House By The Cemetery. |

Wonder if Shout/Scream Factory would be interested in Releasing the 3-D Blu-Ray of "Comin' at Ya!" the movie had a short lived revival in Texas last year via Alamo DraftHouse and than fell off the map. Tony Anthony had big plans for the re-release but it seems like they fell through.

I talk about the Amityville films...
One thing for sure a release of the second part with more extras would be nice (considering that Diana Franklin had already done extras with them and Scorpion Releasing) since it's my favorite in that franchise. A real 3D release of the third one would be nice too. I don't really care enough about those after the first three to get them. I saw them on tape a long time ago and the only thing I can remember was that all of them are waste of time. |

Either way, you are pretty brave to go all out and purchases that many Blurays (I hope they were on sale as usually BU titles are quite expensive!) especially if you have only seen two Italian movies, one of which you hated. I would say a lot of the titles you picked up lean more towards House then Last Man on Earth, although the only one that is actually pretty similar is City in that it offers great mood and gore, but doesn't make much sense. You will probably hate Strip Nude if you hate sleaze, although what did you expect from the title!? You may enjoy Torso, Deep Red, and Crystal Plumage though as they are kind of like slashers, with the first two having some stand out kills. Although gillaos differ from slashers in that they are as much about the police procedural as they are about the inventive kills. Usually the mystery is what keeps the plot moving, which doesn't always make all that much sense in the end. Cat O' is like this as well, but is all about the mystery and lacks in gore. It has more in common with a Hitchcock film then a slasher. Manchester Morgue is one of the better zombies films, although again it is quite different then its American counterparts. A little slower with the police involved and blaming the main character for the murders. And Inferno is just an insane colourful fantasy movie about witches that again doesn't make much sense but is a great visual experience. It is part two of the Three Mothers trilogy (With Suspiria being the first part and Mother of Tears concluding the trilogy.), although they are barely connected and don't really need to be watched in order. If you get a chance I would highly recommend checking out Suspiria, that film and Deep Red are what got me hooked on Italian cinema, along with Zombie, City of the Living Dead, The Beyond, Stagefright, Black Sabbath, and Demons. I think Italian horror films sit up there with the best of them, although they are very different in tone and style so you have to be prepared for that when sitting down to watch them. Either way, hope you enjoy what you picked up, as it's a pretty solid batch of titles to start with! Oh, and what others said, for the most part stick with the Italian audio with subtitles! There are some cases where the English audio works just as well, usually if the lead is English, but usually it comes off pretty hokey, and can really ruin the experience. Suspiria is a masterpiece. But I can understand why some people can't get into it.

Come on, Part VI has a possessed lamp! You don't find that terrifying beyond your worst nightmares?! I wonder if they could get Diane Franklin to talk about 2, as she contributed to TerrorVision - there is some creepy (and unrepentant!) brother-sister incest in that one.

I'll just add that the film that introduced me to Italian horror cinema was House by the Cemetery. I still bought it on BD as I've become a fan of Fulci overall, but in my opinion, his prime was in the 1970s. If I had to list his best five films (IMO of course), none from his gore period in the '80s would make it, though I really do like New York Ripper (a sleazy giallo) and that one I might like enough to call it one of my faves. It was the first giallo of his that I saw. It has a reputation for being very trashy and gory but for whatever reason I thought the story was interesting and the quacking duck voice didn't bother me in the slightest (the guy's crazy, after all). Fulci's best work was his gialli like 'Lizard in a Woman's Skin', 'Don't Torture a Duckling', and 'Seven Notes in Black / The Psychic'. Other ones I like are 'Four of the Apocalypse' (a western) and a period drama of sorts called 'Beatrice Cenci'. 'Beatrice Cenci' might actually be his best film. 1980s Fulci is more about atmosphere and gore effects, I think Fulci even mentioned at some point that he went that route because that's what people wanted from him. They were less personal works for him, and I got the impression that he was disappointed that his earlier work wasn't as appreciated.
In all, I'm willing to pick up any Fulci on BD up through Devil's Honey (which hasn't gotten even a DVD release yet). |

Hey...I just received 'Prison' in the mail from amazon, and boy the slipcover looks chewed up. This always happens from amazon, from the Halloween films to The Funhouse, They Live, Deadly Blessing, and now Prison, I always received significantly damaged slipcovers
Where do you guys purchase your scream factory blu's from because when you post pics the slips seem pristine |
