Someone on the Scream Factory Facebook page (in the comments) said that MGM now has the rights to "Witchboard", "Night of the Demons", and "Clownhouse". Does anyone know if this is true or not? I knew about "Clownhouse", but I thought Anchor Bay/Starz had the rights to "Witchboard" and "Night of the Demons".

I know that Olive Films is planning on releasing "Witchboard 2: The Devil's Doorway" sometime this year, and they just released "Night of the Demons 2". It would be cool to see the first two films also released. It looks odd seeing "Night of the Demons 2" on my shelf all alone. Haha!

On a side note, I hope "Phantasm" gets released sometime as well. I know Anchor Bay/Starz used to hold the rights to the first, third and fourth. Not sure if they still do or not. Either way, "Phantasm 2" is going to look odd all alone, too. Lol.

The AB discs of Witchboard and NOTD are OOP, for what that's worth. I wonder if those three will be MGM's 'horror trio' for October this year, like Jeepers Creeps, Killer Klowns, and TCM 2 were in 2012. Was the person posting this a reliable source?

No. I don't think. I mean, it wasn't someone like Cliff or someone actually from Shout!/Scream. I had just mentioned those three movies, and he said that they're all three owned by MGM, which I hadn't heard anything about. It's amazing, 'cause I would be very greatful to have them all released on blu-ray from MGM, if that's what they want to do, but... Scream Factory has spoiled me. Lol. They've got it going on. "Witchboard" and "Night of the Demons" are two of my all-time favorite horror movies. I know Scream Factory would treat them with the love and respect they deserve.

And if they could get ahold of "Carrie" (my all-time favorite movie) then my life would be complete. The blu-ray looks... ok... but it needs remastered. I know Cliff said they asked MGM about it and MGM said the film was "fragile". Well, that's understandable, I suppose, but the film itself is only getting older. Letting it sit there to rot isn't helping it any. Why not give it a try? God, if The Criterion Collection would get their hands on it, I would die a happy man. With the remake coming out later this year I think it would be the perfect time to do something about it, but I know no one will. Other than that, I guess the next best time would be in 2016 for its 40th anniversary. I've seen the cover art for the upcoming rerelase (just a new cover and movie bucks to the remake, same disc, I'm sure)... Scream Factory and Criterion could do wonders!

If only...

Sigh. Maybe some day...

I doubt they release "Clownhouse", due to its repretation. They planned a release a few years ago, but only pre-orders actually were shipped. The film's director molested the kids in the film and its never received a legit release.

They have been rumored to be the original rights holder to bothe "Night of the Demons" and "Witchboard". They've had them for a long time, but Anchor Bay sub-liscensed them from MGM. I don't think these obscure films will be released by MGM, they're not really into doing blu-rays of non-artsy film, unless its a special occasion. Our best bet is Scream Factory or possibly Olive.

Also, Olive may be judging the sales of "Night of the Demons 2" and "Witchboard 2" to decide on releasing the 3rd parts of each series. I for one love both sequels to each franchise, and it does look strange with just "NOTD 2" on my shelf, but I also have the remake so not TOO strange.

I'm actually watching my copy of NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 2 now, and it looks amazing on BD, the transfer look really great. I just wished there were more features.

I'm sure "Carrie" will be remastered and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened by the end of the year in some form...Of course it could just end up being a repackaging. Like you said, with the remake coming out it will spark popularity to already famous/loved movie. Someday I'm sure it will happen.

For those living in Canada, are you guys have troubles finding The Nest? Nowhere seems to have it in stock. I checked HMV (they only had Terrorvision and Prison), BuyCDNow, and Amazon.ca and none of them have it.

Yeah, I remember hearing about the "Clownhouse" incident. It's probably in bad taste, but... they should still release it. Lol. It's a fun little movie.

Well, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that sometime in the near-future either ScreamFactory or OliveFilms releases all three movies. I love them so.

I was thinking that as well, but if people think like me then "Night of the Demons 2" and "Witchboard 2" aren't going to sell too well. I mean, I almost decided to wait on "Night of the Demons 2", simply because "Night of the Demons" isn't available on blu-ray. Why get the sequel when the original isn't available, too? But, being the horror lover that I am, I just couldn't wait. Lol. I need to pick op the "Night of the Demons" remake. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit!

I agree, "Night of the Demons 2" looks and sounds fantastic on blu-ray! OliveFilms did an amazing job with this release. I do wish there were more special features (I would love to know what Christine Taylor thinks about the film), but I'm just thankful to have it released at all

I'll still keep 'praying' that it does get remastered some day. I love it. It's too good of a film not to be remastered. Not just for a horror film, but as a film in general. It's fantastic. In my opinion, of course.

Default Ordered They Live

Just ordered They Live, which will be my first Scream Factory purchase.

I ordered straight from SF. It's a few bucks more than amazon (28 vs 22), but I like the idea of giving as much directly to the publisher as I can. Amazon gets plenty enough of my money.

Oh, man! They totally are! Sweet! Thanks for that link. I like how they don't even list "Clownhouse". It's like it never existed. Lol. "Maybe if we don't talk about it, no one will remember the movie or... the incident!"

I am going to be optimistic that (with the help of either SF or OF, and possible MGM) these films will be released on blu-ray one day. Now, will "Witchboard 3" and "Night of the Demons 3" ever see the blu-ray light of day? I guess we'll save those for another day

But hopefully those get released, too. Yay for being a completist

On the three releases of this month it's the only one I didn't got yet, but according to my Amazon orders page it will be ship in the first week of march.

I just received and watched Prison. Fantastic release as usual guys. This film reminded me of another film I used to watch a crap ton of times back in the 80's and 90's on cable. The Sleeping Car, this film was a solid horror movie and actually gave me the creeps. Any chance to see this as it would be right up the SF alley? As always thanks for what you have done and looking forward to what does come from you guys.

Interesting info concerning MGM having the rights to the original Night of the Demons and Witchboard. I'm more curious, however, about finding out HOW they got the rights (through which of their many acquisitions?) and how Anchor Bay figured into it. I'm sure if Shout decides to ink another deal with MGM (why wouldn't they?) these 2 would be likely candidates but I'm not holding my breath hoping for Blu-rays for the forseeable future.

I have a question regarding trailers. Are there contractual/licensing reasons why trailers for films other than the one for the film you purchased not to be included as extras? I ask because I blind-bought JOSHUA TREE knowing nothing about the film, but I suspect many people won't or can't, perhaps for financial reasons, make a blind buy going just by a title alone, knowing very little to nothing about the film or even a s a supportive gesture, but if they see a trailer for it on a disc we purchased previously they might be more inclined to buy it. Nothing sells a film better than a trailer, IMO, and judging by trailer for Joshua Tree it looks like a bad-ass action movie. But two weeks ago it had not even crossed my mind to buy this because, going by the title, to me it sounded like a promotional video for a cult religion or something . Being a horror buff I'd like to check out most of Shout's upcoming slate but they're movies I've never heard of. Maybe if I see trailers for them on, say, the Futureworld Blu, I might get a better idea of what I'm going to be potentially buying.

MGM's whole library is derived from so many different acquisitions it's almost impossible to know. Whatever the "Paragon Arts International" library is, it seems like MGM has it now. Could be that someone different owned it when Anchor Bay did their DVDs, or the home video rights to these films were with a different company and then the license expired.
