I'll have you know that I'm a millennial and I'm older than this movie!!

it's easy to say that I wish the titles were a little a cheaper...

but if the higher prices mean they can put out more titles, I don't have a problem.

don't have piranha. will grab that. want the entity. can't wait to see what else they announce.

I really hope some of these 4K transfers will start to trickle down to regular blus, not just steelbook packaging. I really don't like steelbooks. But oh well.

Kind of made me wonder if one of the reasons they chose to move Bela Lugosi/Boris Karloff to June is just because they needed to fill out the month more.
Weird. A pretty slow month then. They normally have 12-15 titles a month.

Shout in general yes, not Scream. Scream will usually have between 5-7, with a couple of IFC releases on top.

They're due for another edition of Halloween II and III, aren't they?

2) IMO your "no redeeming value" is not a fair statement. Just because those films don't meet your standards or tickle your fancy doesn't mean they don't have value. I buy a lot of those films and hide them in a closet (an awesome media closet with cool hand-built shelving) for my eyes only. I don't think of them as a badge of honor and am embarrassed when my wife mentions my collection to my friends. I own thousands of genre films because I find them far more entertaining than whats on cable TV, Netflix, theaters and Youtube. It can't be nostalgia as I been experiencing most these genres for the first time in recent years.

80's films are what tickle my nostalgia but I disagree that the best horror films are from the 80s/90s. IMO the 70s are the golden age for horror and just about any genre of film.
I'll agree that the 70s was a stellar decade for the genre.

I'd wager that most 80s horror films don't feel nearly as dated as 50s monster movies. Practical effects were at the top of their game in the 80s. CGI effects have not trumped good practical effects in any way. The movies from the 50s used the cheapest possible sets and effects, and are dated to the point of being unwatchable to me. I doubt millennial moviegoers are discussing how dated Carpenter's The Thing is. Yeah, the computers are old school, but that's not the center of the film. Technology in films always dates quickly, but the watchability of 80s horror films has not weakened in any way.

Are they done with Warner? They said it wasn't a large deal. Could that be it for now?

Apparently not, given that it seems they have at least two Warner Hammer titles (Curse of Frankenstein and Crescendo). However, for all we know this could be it for the time being, the delay logical given that they seemingly have so many Hammer titles from different studios on the table (anything more than two a month would likely be viewed as overkill).

I'd also be surprised if they left it at just the two Val Lewton films, you'd expect them to have more.

We should bear in mind that with most of these titles they'll be at the mercy of Warner's restoration team. Moreover, I don't know if they ever commented on the size of the Warner deal.

It’s not always about the effects, at least not for me. I’m a student of history so I appreciate what has come before, so I can help understand how that inspired what we get today. Yeah the special effects might not have been as “sophisticated” as today’s standards, but the earlier movies show you to what lengths and methods that these people went to convey their message on film. I also really enjoy practical effects because it’s easier to see personal influences for a particular animator, modeler, etc.

I was going to ask if Shout has so many Hammer films why don't they just release a big box set, or at least 2 or 3 volumes like the Vincent Price sets, but then reality set in. Each film, at $30 a pop, will make them a LOT more money than condensed releases

Don’t they do a March Madness sale, to coincide with the tournament?

Yup. It should start in the third or fourth week of March, and will cover most titles sitewide (not just Scream).
