I'm hoping these ship early next week. My copy of Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires, which gets released a week before these two, shipped the other day.

Thanks for the heads up! For $20 I'll take a chance on this one

I received my copy today! Beautiful transfer and the extra interview with David Chiang is worth the price in and of itself. I love seeing interviews where Cushing is described as such an amazing gentleman!

Just put in an order for:

The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires
The Witches
The Vengeance of She
The Deadly Mantis
Man's Best Friend

I have to support the Hammer releases! Keep 'em coming! I think I've got everything Hammer that they've released to date. Looking forward to Quatermass 2, Quatermass and the Pit, Frankenstein Created Woman and any others that are coming!

Credit to DawnoftheDiscs - apparently Alex Winter has confirmed that a 'better' edition of Freaked is coming to Blu soon. Has to be Scream Factory really, given that no one else who would release a title like this seems to have an active deal with Fox. Don't expect a new transfer, but hopefully they can get all the extras from the Anchor Bay DVD.

Recently watched 10 to Midnight and it has to be one of my favorite releases by Scream Factory. Absolutely worth blind buying if you're on the fence. Hadn't watched Candyman in a long time either and it's fantastic. Both great releases.

They're doing one Hammer release a month right? Basically a certainty the first three will come this year. She? That would be a nice surprise but that is with Warner so I'm not expecting it.

So far they've been releasing the Hammer films that Anchor Bay released on DVD so if AB did any of those it's probably a safe bet for a SF BD.

I'm guessing they don't have She, because most likely they would have released it before or at the same time as the sequel, The Vengeance of She, which they put out in Feb.

If She is with Warner hopefully WAC will put it out soon.

Excellent. Can't wait for subsequent volumes! Possible candidates include:

Murder by the Clock
Murders in the Rue Morgue
Secret of the Blue Room
The Mystery of Edwin Drood
The Missing Guest
Night Key
Tower of London
The Cat and the Canary
The Ghost Breakers
Man-Made Monster
Night Monster
The Black Cat
(1941)
Horror Island
The Mystery of Marie Roget
The Climax
Captive Wild Woman
Jungle Woman
Jungle Captive
House of Horrors
The Cat Creeps
The Spider Woman Strikes Back
The Black Castle

While I don't see them releasing all of these, I think we'll get at least two more sets to get all the Karloff and Lugosi titles out there. We can be fairly certain they have The Black Castle for example, since the Kino Insider said it was coming from another label; indeed, I think Kino would have picked up a lot more classic Universal horror if they were available, so we can only presume that a sizeable number were already promised to Scream (and Tom Weaver has hinted that Scream would be releasing more 30s-50s Universal horror in due course).

Perhaps they could do a separate The Inner Sanctum Mysteries (Calling Dr Death, Weird Woman, Dead Man's Eyes, The Frozen Ghost, Strange Confession, Pillow of Death) set at some point? I fancy the likes of Curse of the Undead and The Thing That Couldn't Die to get individual releases at some point (either through Scream or Kino).

I hope that my pre-order is still effective, in light of this change.

Review copies? Dying to learn how these turned out. I ordered from Diabolik hoping to get them early but it's still in Preorder status. Now I know who to order from next time

Now that they have dropped the names of Bela and Boris from the title of the set, I hope this means that they at least have Man Made Monster in another volume!

I wonder if the change is at all related to how much of a stickler for copyright and likeness laws the Lugosi estate is.

See: Lugosi vs Universal Pictures
See also: California Celebrities Rights Act (1986)
See also also how long it took for an action figure of Lugosi's Dracula to actually feature Bela's likeness

I think you hit the nail on the head. Based on the way the facebook announcement regarding the name change read, I expect that the issue was a likeness one as you stated.

Here we are:

Quote:
**NEW TITLE CHANGE**
As some of you know already, we recently moved the release date of the Boris Karloff/Bela Lugosi Collection into June. The reason we needed to do this was to sort out some unexpected developments that presented themselves after we announced the project. Which also brings us to the following…

We have had to change course on our art as to what we call the set. Going forward it will be known as the UNIVERSAL HORROR COLLECTION: VOLUME 1 with the new artwork that you see listed here. We tried everything we could to preserve Joel Robinson’s beautiful illustration, but we couldn’t come to a solution to keep it unfortunately.

The content inside the set (4 films including The Black Cat, The Raven, The Invisible Ray and Black Friday) are all intact. Packaging with still include slipcase and a booklet. Extras will be announced the next month.

Additionally, we can report today that we will be announcing VOLUME II next month that will include 4 more classic Universal films. Be on the lookout as to what they will be soon!
So that's one of July's reveals confirmed. I could see it being another Lugosi/Karloff-themed set, something like this for example:

Murders in the Rue Morgue
Night Key
Night Monster
The Black Castle

And while we're throwing out ideas, that would leave room for a few more sets (I'm feeling optimistic today):

[Show spoiler]Volume 3

Secret of the Blue Room
Tower of London
The Black Cat (1941)
The Climax

Volume 4

Horror Island
Man-Made Monster
The Mad Ghoul
House of Horrors

Volume 5

Captive Wild Woman
Jungle Woman
The Jungle Captive
The Spider Woman Strikes Back

I think that leaves 4-6 more titles for a sixth volume if they so wish
