I'm looking at Tom Weavers book and there seem to be enough for at least 10 of these sets but I doubt Shout would be interested in the obscure stuff. |

Seems pretty stupid on Shout's part to get artwork made without having likeness rights secured. |

Watched 10 to Midnight the other night and was pleasantly surprised with how much I actually enjoyed it. It wasn't even really a Bronson movie. It was basically a slasher that Charles Bronson just happened to be in. It was a blind buy for me that I would recommend to anyone on the fence about it. Hopefully Shout Factory is looking into more of those OOP Twilight Time titles like The Driver, The Mechanic, Enemy Mine, etc.
Deadly Force was another blind buy for me that I did not enjoy as much. I usually love these kind of rogue cop movies, but the plot just seemed too incoherent for some reason. I just couldn't take Wings Hauser seriously as some kind of tough guy super cop. He wasn't believable and has a face made for playing a maniacal 80's villain. I'm sure I'll find Vice Squad much more to my liking. Last edited by Pete Rock; 03-23-2019 at 02:57 AM. |

Hoping a SCARS OF DRACULA Blu will include the self-hosted "The Many Faces of Christopher Lee" documentary that was included as a separate DVD on the Anchor Bay release. Despite not having the best reputation, SCARS is an often visually lush entry which gives Lee's Dracula more screen time (and dialogue) than any other Hammer Dracula film; very much looking forward to its release, which will complete the availability of the Dracula series here in America.
Here's hoping the much-maligned HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN (I've always enjoyed it for the campy black comedy and leering schoolboy sexuality presided over by a deadpan Ralph Bates; it can't compete with the Cushing entries, but it's fun for what it is) gets a release as well. While I'm being greedy, BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY'S TOMB (despite the lurid title, an intelligently wrought little shocker and my favorite of the Mummy sequels), DR. JEKYLL & SISTER HYDE (provocative to say the least, and the physical resemblance between Ralph Bates and Martine Beswick remains uncanny) and LUST FOR A VAMPIRE (which I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit I've never seen). It's a great time to be a Hammer fan, no? ![]() |

From DawnoftheDiscs on Facebook
Quote:
Fear No Evil Vice Squad (confirmed by Gary Sherman, will be a CE) Freaked (Alex Winter has said a 'better' release is coming, has to be Scream given their active Fox deal; will surely be a CE) Fade to Black (according to Irwin Yablans) The Terminator (we know it's been licenced and it's not with Kino or Arrow, which essentially leaves Scream or Criterion) Curse of Frankenstein & Crescendo (both strongly hinted at by George Reis on the Hammer Horror on Blu-ray Facebook group) Hard to Die/Sorority House Massacre II (apparent Jim Wynorski leak but has yet to materialize) Not to mention the probable raft of titles remaining in the deal with the Hammer estate. While they won't release everything, these six seem very likely, materials permitting in the case of the last two: The Mummy's Shroud The Reptile Rasputin, the Mad Monk The Devil Rides Out The Abominable Snowman X The Unknown Last edited by BarnDoor; 03-23-2019 at 07:56 PM. |

I was thinking that we haven't seen a Warner title on the schedule since The Body Snatcher (released in a few days). So that's 3 months since then without a Warner title. There's some speculation that the deal might be over. So far we've seen a grand total of 32 Shout titles licenced from Warner by my count. That's a nice even number for a deal, but something tells me there's more to come, mainly for two reasons:
1) George Reis' hints that Curse of Frankenstein and Crescendo are coming, but NOT from Warner Archive 2) The release of two Val Lewton titles. A while back Robert Harris said something to the effect that between Criterion and Scream, Val Lewton's films were in good hands. I can't see Scream licencing The Body Snatcher and not at least getting the other two Karloff titles, Isle of the Dead and Bedlam. I could see Criterion having I Walked With A Zombie, but The Leopard Man, The Seventh Victim, The Ghost Ship? I'm not sure but I'm not convinced we've seen the last of Val Lewton from Scream. And in any case, of course there's always the prospect of a second deal... (I saw our old friend dsman on Facebook the other day speculate that the deal 'was for about 2 dozen titles, it was a small deal, but better than none.' I've no idea where he got this info from (as we've seen, it's already well above two dozen titles). I remember when Criterion first started announcing Warner titles on a regular basis, and people were realizing that there was something go on there, but he still maintained that it was still just a case of special arrangements, and that Warner weren't licencing out. Down the years I've seen nothing to suggest he has any insider knowledge.) |

They do. They had to create the artwork in order for it to be submitted for approval. If Scream Factory are guilty of anything it's A) Announcing the project before the art was approved or B) Publically showing the artwork before it was approved. Either way, we still got high quality images of the artwork of which people could create their own covers if they really wanted.
