Maybe yes, Maybe no. Salem's lot was just announced to be getting the remake treatment and Stephen King properties are currently enjoying a lot of box office success. Keeping hold of all of those properties isn't all that surprising all things considered. Depending on how the current exec's feel about the Nightmare Franchise could provide better perspective on whether a) Any reboot's/remakes/sequels are coming any time soon or b) whether or not they'd be willing to license out the franchise.

Man do I ever hope so! So many great gems just rotting away sitting there sad that Paramount doesn't want to put them on blu ray just like the island of misfit toys.

Just to clarify something -- these have never even been officially released on DVD (at least in R1), have they? At the point when she acquired the rights, she immediately issued a cease and desist to an MST3k VHS, prior to the existence of DVDs, and I didn't think she had ever relented at all on her asking price. I know there are some DVDs out there, but my impression was that they were all pirated copies of VHS-era masters.

Should of course be noted that Warner were willing to licence out The Mangler, which tells you their Stephen King commitment only goes so far...

I saw Hudson Hawk when it first came out and I've always enjoyed its quirky nature. That being said, I'm content with my cheapie Mill Creek release.

I have a feeling it will happen. Ironically, as a result of the decreasing interest studios seem to have for physical media, they'll probably stop releasing DVDs and allow boutique labels to licence and release whatever they want.

I agree - I quite liked Cabin Fever. Also liked the first Hostel for what it was at the time. He brought something somewhat different to the table. I'd say those were his two best but I didn't mind Knock Knock, Green Inferno or the Death Wish remake either.

Bummer that there's no movement on Alligator. Hopefully they can get the issues figured out at some point, Jeff being a huge fan and all.

He was also a big fan of Cruising but we all know who that ended up with. I just don't think they try hard enough. A company that settles for IP scans isn't giving it their all.

Ugh, I hate when an Amazon price drops by a fairly substantial amount less than 48 hours after release date, like The Brain. Amazon will no longer adjust prices after something ships, and with the “Pre-Order Price Guarantee,” they’ll only adjust up to the end of release day. They expect you to return and re-order (I was told to do this for something that had a $1.27 decrease in price last year), which is absurd because they charge return shipping.

I should really stop pre-ordering altogether.

There's a soft spot in my heart for Hudson Hawk too. It's a live action cartoon. The release made on BD isn't even in Stereo. It would be nice to have it re-mastered.

What did they say on the podcast about their pricing? I don't listen and I didn't see it mentioned in the rundown.

I do love Cabin Fever and the Hostel movies. He's good at what he does, that style of gory horror. I'm not a fan of Green Inferno (watched it a couple times, and it's a chore), but I generally like and look forward to his movies.

Doubt they said anything about the pricing. $12-$25 is cheap for boutique labels.

I didn't listen to the whole thing, skimming around to get to the 4K bit, but they talk about pricing at length.

I transcribed as best I could the 4K discussion, for anyone who's curious:

Quote:
Have you guys, or will you guys, ever discuss going 4K?

Cliff: Yeah, you know, this comes up a lot, and I understand why the fans want it. Trust me; I'm a 4K guy, I have a player, and all the streaming capabilities and so forth. The thing the fans need to understand is that when we license a title, we are only getting physical media rights. We do not get broadcast, we don't get television, we don't get digital: we don't get any of that, especially in the studio deals. Sometimes with smaller movies, we do. But when you're a studio and you spend the money to make a 4K, you're utilizing that master and that expenditure across multiple platforms. So you're gonna get your money back quicker. If we're only putting out a 4K disc and the only way we can recoup the cost of that is by this disc, we have to be sure we're gonna sell X amount of units. And I'm not talking out of school because it's been on the forums, but you know, Kino's doing Hannibal, and they're not happy with their orders. They canceled their next title because of it. It's very difficult as an independent to do that, to spend that kind of money. You're talking probably $50,000 to do a transfer, and then if you do extras, and then the replication of the disc is more expensive. We can't make the numbers work. We really can't. And we'd like to. We'd really want to play in that arena, and we'd lose money. We'd lose money.

Jeff: Cliff, you perfectly summed that up. I also think too that even though we see that there is some growth in the 4K players, things could be a little bit more encouraging if there were more growth. That growth is steady, but it's not fast.

Cliff: And here's something 'cause I'd actually just had the conversation with the sales department. When a major studio starts pricing the discs at a low price -- like, this week, you were able to buy the 4K of Alien for $14.99, and it's still that price on Amazon -- so, our sales department feels like "well, we can't go out with a $40, $35 disc when Lionsgate or Fox is selling it for $15. We need to be at that price." So now, you're trying to recoup that cost off a disc that's only $15, and there's just no way. It'd just be a huge write-off for the company, and it pains us to not play in that marketplace. And we do, we have some IMAX titles, but in that case, the cost of the IMAX transfer and the disc creation is split among all territories. So everybody pays a smaller amount. If we did the 4K transfer ourselves -- and we do 4K transfers, we don't finish the work in 4K because unfortunately, we don't have any use for it because we can't play in this arena -- (and I couldn't quite make out this last bit; something like "and that's it").

"Vice Squad" cover and release date.

**NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT**

Hollywood, cops, hookers and killer pimps! Director Gary Sherman’s 1982 “neon-slime” cult classic VICE SQUAD is finally coming to Blu-ray this Summer! (News of this had been leaked previously in some circles earlier this year, today we make it official.). We’re so excited! And if you’re a fan of movies like Savage Streets, 10 to Midnight or Class of 1984, this is a must have. Here’s the early details we have a current time to share.

• Blu-ray debut!
• National street date for North America (Region A) is August 13th.
• This will be presented as a Collector’s Edition and will come guaranteed with a slipcover in its first three months of release.
• The newly-commissioned artwork pictured comes to us from Joel Robinson (Silent Night Deadly Night, Candyman). This art will be front-facing and the reverse side of the wrap will feature the original theatrical artwork.
• Extras will be confirmed on a later date but we can aim to pack it. We are working closely with Gary to make it the best as possible.

Pre-orders on our site begin today which includes the Blu-ray plus a rolled 18” x 24” poster of the new art. The poster is exclusive to us and will be made at a limited-run of 500 pieces: https://www.shoutfactory.com/product...roduct_id=7119
