That was a killer lineup tbh.
And I still remember everyone complaining about it...

Well they did deserve some of the criticism for the price fixing, scratched discs and missed release dates...

Anything else from Scream is welcomed but not expected to me.

I hope they are still working with Warner. I really wanted The Guyver films. There's still hope with Warner Archive but it'll be a bare minimum release.
Maybe also Tremors CE and End of Days CE might be announced this year

the idea that someone must be working on dawn of the dead for a us release is nothing but wishful thinking.

granted, it is possible. but I doubt the financial issues have changed. At his would have to sell a ton of copies, and the best chance of moving units is probably going to be making it limited edition. but considering how many units you would have to sell to make your money back, you couldn't do a limited edition.

so how big is the print run? remember how many people complained about night breed going from 5000 to 10000?

you'd have to do way more than that.

I would absolutely love for dawn of the dead to come out. that's probably one of of the most desired titles on blu. but I'm not holding my breath

I remember a while back someone said a US label had Dawn of the Dead but on the day it was to be finalized Rubinstein torpedoed the deal.

Candyman and the Critters collection were by far my favorite announcements from last year.

Yes, looking back, this was actually a very good year. Especially the Critters boxset. SF was getting a lot of hate though, as you state. The pricing scam was still in full effect.

Even the Kino Lorber guy loses his cool a few times at the stupid shit he has to put up with.
I'm not surprised Mr. MacMillan stays away either given that in the past he has been caught in one lie after another regarding SHOUT FACTORY DVD releases of TV series. Promising prior to some series being released (e.g. ROUTE 66, RHODA) that they would be restored, uncut, etc. he turned out to be dead wrong. Of course, by the time the series were bought by early adopters who expressed their justifiable frustration and disappointment, Mr. MacMillan was nowhere to be found.

For what it's worth, my girlfriend had extensive business with SHOUT/SCREAM FACTORY a few years ago and had nothing nice to say about them as a company in the slightest. She was trying to purchase their product for her store, which is a prestigious museum store in Los Angeles, and they would barely return her phone calls. When they did she said they were incredibly rude and arrogant. By contrast, she had all praise for KINO who couldn't have been nicer in their dealings with her and the store. The differences in professionalism were remarkable.

That's been a consideration, but I'm still sticking to avoiding any unnecessary imports for now. A US release of Guyver is bound to happen, it just would be nice to get a equivalent package to the Arrow edition over a WA release. A CE of the first film and standard release of the second film is my wish.

Why did they deserve complaining about the missed release dates? It wasn't anything they could control. And they were hardly the only label that had them.

Now, with all the streaming options out there I'm even more selective. I'll usually check if it's available on any streaming platforms first, if it isn't then I'll likely buy it, if it is, I'll debate if I'll actually watch it more than once or twice in my lifetime. All that to say, I'm spending a lot less on movies these days.
My thought process sometimes goes "$5-6? That's what a 2 day rental would cost back in the day. If I like it, I keep it at a bargain. If I don't, it's a rental and I can sell it to get a $1-2 back". Only problem is the $1-2 isn't worth the time to list it/ship it or bring it to a store.

I’ll never actually stop buying discs, of course, but I figure that the low 4,000s is the most that I can reasonably expect to revisit more than once during my lifetime, and the vast majority of my “Holy Grail” wishlist movies are currently being released or announced. Scream is finally putting out the Hammer, Val Lewton, and Universal Sci-Fi that I’ve been wanting forever in the format. Kino is releasing the Jean-Pierre Meville and Jacques Becker gangster films at long last. Arrow is releasing The Prey (1984).
It’s almost as though the missing gaps in my collection wishlist are being filled by all of these labels all of a sudden.

I’ll be double-dipping on better editions of existing stuff (the Roger Corman 4K restoration steelbooks, etc.), but those purchases do not increase my collection count, since I unload my previous editions.
Like Jay Z said, I am looking forward to you coming out of retirement like Jordan wearing the 4-5.

It's no more wishful thinking than a small, UK label ponying up the cash for a UK only release on a new format, and just hoping they sell enough locally, with a ton of imports to make up the licensing cost, and the production cost on a 4k set....

I'm not saying it's 100% happening. And we've seen attempts to do it in recent years fall apart at various stages. But, considering it IS already happening with Second Sight, the idea of a second label adding to those funds for a US release/to ease the burden on both sides and increase the chances of making that cash back....it's not really just wishful thinking.

But the Arrow version, which I do have, is only 1 cut of the film. I believe there are 2 more...? I would definitely pick it up if it saw a US release with multiple cuts. I think Germany released all 3, but I never picked it up.

The sequel would be awesome though. I remember I recorded it onto VHS when it was on TV and made my own custom hand drawn art work for it haha.

Agreed. Though the Candyman announcement was soured thanks to Scream Factory's reluctance to announce it immediately after Arrow announced their edition and the fact that the Arrow edition just looked like such a better physical presentation; it ended up raining on that particular announcement a bit.

I did end up picking up the Scream Factory edition... (pre-ordered it I believe) but my excitement for it was no where near where it should have been.

Dealing with hyper opinionated folks all day undoubtedly wears on a person so I can't say I'm terribly surprised that CMAC doesn't post much anymore. It is surprising though that your GF would have had such an experience on the retail end of things. I wish I could say I was shocked by such claims but if you've watched or listened to any of the interviews over the last few years there is a certain level of disdain for the fans that typically comes through, and so I could see how that could easily be translated to their dealings with others as well.

It's more than likely with Scream Factory (unless there's some other label that has a deal with them) because Mill Creek is NOT in the habit of including special features on their bargain basement releases.

Cliff Mac stopped posting here long ago. That "outrage towards Shout Factory", as someone put it, wasn't outrage until the prices shot up and long after Cliff hightailed it, just folks being opinionated over one thing or another. With every tech that comes along people's sophistication levels have risen accordingly, with enough people coming on and stating their opinions as fact that things sometimes got out of hand. The trick is to not act like you're better or smarter than others who enjoy interacting on these boards. I'm sorry Cliff left but if you can't handle constructive criticism and can't deal with an ever-growing pool of knowledgeable but passionate folks then that's on you.

I've noticed their barely-concealed disgust with fans, too, and it's disappointing. If they hate the fans, they'd do much, much better if they at least acted like they didn't. I'm currently reading the popular tome "How to Win Friends and Influence People," which details insight and techniques for successfully dealing with people as a businessman, and SF almost works as an antagonist to the book, doing the opposite of what author Dale Carnegie teaches. It's too bad, because a little kindness and regard towards the everyday person goes a long way. It's why labels like Arrow can seemingly do no wrong with fans, where others -- like SF, at times -- seem to only step on their own dick.

And @TripleHBK -- I felt the same way about that Candyman release. I always like to investigate the possibly of a U.S. release before preordering or ordering an import, and all SF had to do was say, hold up fellas, we're releasing that, too, and I would've waited for their edition. I know that SF doesn't owe me anything. They don't have to tell the fans anything. But if they did, it would go a long way. Especially in situations that warrant that kind of inside information. I've said this all before, but that incident soured me with SF for a long time, and I still feel the sting of it.

It's funny how last year I tweeted out to Shout asking if they'd do a Blu of Suburbia and they were like "You never know!" and BOOM it was announced later on. I'd much prefer replies like that when they have something but they don't want to announce it yet. I ended up ordering both the Scream and Arrow versions of Candyman (mainly for the Barker interview) and funnily enough have yet to get Shout Selects' Suburbia.

Scream has been relatively good about answering certain questions when I pose them on twitter. It's about a 50/50 chance I see a response, which is better than some.
