I agree, but I don't think there's anyone around at Warner anymore that cares enough to make sure any of the Nightmare films are given proper UHD treatment (new scans, etc), especially now that Craven has passed away and there isn't anyone to advocate for him/the films (that we're aware of). Do it right, or not at all IMO. Having said that, I also don't think Warner would let such a profitable property to go Shout, either.

Too bad it looks like Best Buy doesn't seem to sell any Scream Factory films that were released after last summer on their website, I'd get some if they did.

There is so much sad truth in this, at least that's the impression I also get. So much for "the House that Freddy built" now that WB owns it. Someone has to be aware though right? That there is a huge market for such a release. But I don't want to get too into it here, this isn't a Nightmare thread haha.

I got the TT release a few months back when Screen Archives happens across several copies.

That being said, a CE with new features etc, is still something I'd be all over.

Yeah. While I could maybe see a NOES 4k disc someday, I don't see Warner putting in the time/money/effort to do the sequels.

That being said, I don't think that means Scream (or another label) wouldn't be allowed to do their own box set.

A few times now we've seen a smaller label do a CE of a title, only for the actual studio to release their own UHD later on (ie. Arrow's WATERWORLD release, and then the 4k disc being announced just recently).

Every horror franchise has been revisited countless times on DVD and Blu-ray except Freddy. The first film got an excellent 20th Anniversary re-release, and, of course, there's a complete collection Blu-ray set, but that doesn't count, I'm talking about an entire series reappraisal. Surely there's some interest in an exhaustive set out there?

Right?! I would think there would be.

I'm still baffled that in the blu-ray generation of media we never got anything nearly as cool/well done as the DVD box set with the poster art covers, booklet, 3-d glasses etc.

Between Never Sleep Again and the boxset most people are going to be satisfied. I've seen mention of uncut versions but I'm not concerned about those with this franchise (which is odd, because normally I would be). It's perplexing how full this thread is of people begging for repackages of the same films.

Because that barebones blu-ray collection was pretty pathetic when compared to other sets/collections that other franchises have seen. Even FRIDAY THE 13th got an amazing collection in a tin at first. Child's Play has seen....a few different collections with better extras than that NOES set.

That's like saying that people should be satisfied with the DVD copies of any movie from ages ago. Why would you need it repackaged with better/new features and a better treatment?

Never Sleep Again is better than any special feature that could have came in that boxset and made it completely unnecessary to add anything else. With those two SKUs, ANOES fans have more than they could hope for. You all are not hurting and its silly to say otherwise. If you haven't seen Never Sleep Again, than you should, because its amazing. Much better than F13's "Crystal Lake Memories". Could something be added to a new set? Sure, but nothing substantial enough to warrant any comments that series fans have been left wanting.

I've seen it. Also seen and love "Crystal Lake Memories"....doesn't mean that doc cancels out any of the extras (physical and on disc) from my F13 collection TIN. Nor does "Never Sleep Again" make up for how lazily most of the flics in the NOES set were treated.

And you contradict yourself by saying that the doc does more than any extras could do, then follow it up by saying "Yeah, things could be added to a new set". Yes. That's kinda the point of most of these collector labels releasing genre films in collector's editions.

Not sure why you are so confused by fans of one of the biggest slasher series simply stating they would like to see new transfers/better treatment of said franchise than the single, lazy effort that's been released vs how others have been handled.

If anything, an Elm Street collection reissue would be right up Scream's alley since reissues are their thing. The existing BD collection set is nice so I'll only buy a re-release if it's an extras-packed set. Another generic collection from Warner Archive won't entice me to double dip.

I've laid out what could be done with a nightmare set countless times in the past across various threads so I won't dive into the merits of such a release (there are plenty) but here's a simple version in my mind.

-4k Scans
-Original Audio
-INDIVIDIUAL DISCS & COVER ART

As good as the existing set is (and cheap!) I have a hard time considering it to be the definitive version of the franchise. when folks still consider the DVD set to be superior in several ways you know that there is room for a new set.

I'd also add that we've entered into an unusual time for Horror fans in regards to the Blu Ray format as the most wanted titles are likely locked up with labels that won't do anything with them. Until Paramount opens the vaults, Synapse decides to actually put out a product, Lionsgate gets off their ass in regards to their back catalog, etc.... These feverish fan dream requests for big name franchises aren't entirely out of line as Scream Factory is stuck between some really middling titles that simply won't move big numbers despite how much several of us may love them, and Big franchise type films that already have a release out there... At least with Freddy we can all say he deserves to be on the Scream Factory brand at that they'd treat him right.

The one glaring omission, for me anyway, is the lack of commentary tracks for the Elm Street films. Only the 1984 original, Wes Craven's New Nightmare, and Freddy vs Jason have a commentary track, whereas most of the Friday the 13th films (except part 2 and the 2009 remake) and Halloween films (except the 2018 film) have one.

All I’d want from Elm Street re-releases is 4K remasters and separate discs for all films. The Never Sleep Again documentary really was exhaustive as far as extras go.

Unpopular opinion but I'd be happy if Warner released a 4K disc of the original, and I'll keep my existing boxset for the sequels. No need for a Shout set for me.
