Their release of Death Becomes Her was weak anyways. I was glad to finally own the movie in its OAR but it wasn't worthy of being a "Collector's Edition" The special features were seriously lacking and not a single mention of the original ending

From a Whisper to a Scream didn't receive the "Collector's Edition" label but it had 2 commentaries, 2 feature length documentaries etc.

Wut.

If I remember right, the DEATH BECOMES HER release was hindered by a some studio interference. They couldn't even get original artwork.

Star power. Likeness rights. Etc.

The release wasn't originally going to be a CE and they were going to use the potion bottle poster as the cover art. Then presumably the film's stars lawyers stepped in and Scream was forced to use the VHS/glamour art as the front-facing cover art and use the potion art as the reverse.

As to why they made it a CE with such limited special features is unknown.

There have been other times when 'regular' Scream Factory releases have been more loaded than CE's. As to why...again, it might be a legal thing.

When planning these releases sometimes things turn out better, sometimes worse. In the case of Death Becomes Her, I believe that there was more planned but that it was all axed by the various rights owners and so Scream Factory released what they could. In other cases like Witchboard, a standard edition was planned due to them not expecting to have a whole lot to include, but then they ended up with a ton of stuff that made that edition Collectors Edition worthy. You win some, you lose some.

Hopefully Death Becomes Her hasn't gone out of print. It's a film I still need to pick up but has never been a priority for me.

I didn't know that. Very interesting.

I remember them delaying the release so they could include new interviews with Robert Zemeckis. Is that true?

Death Becomes Her has next to nothing in the way of bonus features; released as a Collector's Edition.

Witchboard is absolutely loaded with bonus features; not released as a Collector's Edition.

I know it's just words on a Blu-ray cover, but come on...

I honestly believe that the only reason Witchboard ended up not being a Collectors edition was that the time it would have taken to commission new artwork for the release would have ended up pushing it way back on the release schedule and since that wasn't an option they just rolled with it and basically did the fans a solid buy giving them an outstanding package at a great price.

I have no idea how long it takes for a commissioned cover to be created, but I remember seeing the leaked bits and pieces on Return of the Living Dead II like 4-5 months in advance. My guess is that the artists start on the cover 6 months before release at a minimum. Since extras are often assembled right up to the last minute before pressing, this is likely just one of those times where things went unexpectedly well and there wasn't time to do a new cover.

It's a little like their releases of Psycho II and III. Scream Factory had actually gone and commissioned new art for the releases before Universal stepped in and said "No way, bruh." We don't even know who the artist was and, to my knowledge, no one has ever seen the art.

Could be. I don't personally remember any delays but I might be wrong lol. Given when Death Becomes Her was released it does make sense that Scream would accommodate Zemeckis by pushing back the release so they could get his participation.

A Scream release of Tod Browning's Freaks would be a dream come true, hopefully with different extras than the Dvd even though those are great (I want more). It's been about 10 years now that Criterion has been rumored to have it and I hope those rumors aren't true if they are just going to sit on it. I think Scream could do an incredible job with it.....

I would love to see Browning's original cut of Freaks restored, but isn't all the deleted footage long gone?

It's presumed lost. I agree it would be ****ing great to see it restored to its original version.

Such a great movie.

I remember reading in the Kino thread very recently that they were rumoured to have it now. But I can't remember to what extent that was based on anything concrete.
