Well this thread took a weird, unnecessary turn.

Either way, going back to the wish list that looks like it started this, the Relic has been OOP for a while now but isn't that Lionsgate? If it isn't it would be great to see another release of this! If it is then I'm not getting my hopes up.

I'm still waiting out for Cry Wolf and Turistas. I think Turistas is Fox but I'm not seeing it on Disney+ . Also not seeing The Beach now that I think of it. Both of which I've been waiting for on blu for a long time.

The Relic is Paramount. LG had a short-lived deal with them. That's one of my favorite modern movies (and Blu-ray)

I had no idea The Hallow was OOP; I simply put it in my HamiltonBooks (thanks to the users who posted the info, btw) order because it was a dirt-cheap title I've always wanted to see.

Received a separate email that it was out of stock and wouldn't ship. Ah well, I guess I'll have to grab it from another vendor before it's gone entirely, as it sounds like a wickedly cool horror flick.

I hope that Missing in Action is worth $3, btw.

Really? I rewatched it a while back and thought it didn't hold up as well. Sold it, but then I saw it at McKays and re-bought it. It does have a certain 90's era charm I like.

I'd recommend Horror of Dracula. It is probably the most fast paced and works well if you've read or seen other film versions of Dracula.

it's weird how many 2000-2006 movies are unavailable on Blu Ray

I thought The Relic was generally thought of as one of the better modern-era monster/horror films. It's genuinely suspenseful, well made and acted and, if there's any CGI in it, it's not obvious. I've loved it right away.

I really liked The Relic. But then, I'm fond of a lot of 90's movies. I would've liked a Scream Factory double feature of Mimic and The Relic

I've enjoyed The Relic ever since I saw it in the theater when I was in high school. Very fun monster movie and still held up as such when I last saw it maybe a few years ago on some movie channel I stumbled across late one night. There is some CGI in it, mostly for when the monster needs to be fully seen, otherwise it's mostly animatronic and puppetry work.

I love Hammer and have most of the blu-ray releases from years ago when they first came out in the UK. 1957 was when they started making horror/monster movies, "The Curse of Frankenstein" being the first, which is in color as are all of their gothic features. "The Abominable Snowman" which was made in b/w came out the same year. Then in 1958 came "Dracula" (UK), "Horror of Dracula" (US). After that "The Mummy," "The Man Who Could Cheat Death," and their first horror sequel "The Revenge of Frankenstein" all in 1959. And then into the 1960's and Hammer was cookin'! Various studios such as Warner Bros, Universal, and Twenth-century Fox, also Paramount distributed Hammer through the 1960's. These first films made stars out of Peter Cushing (Dr. Frankenstein and Van Helising) and Christopher Lee (Dracula) although they played other characters as well. In fact, Lee played the Mummy in the first installment.

So that's a good place to start. For the most part any of their 1960's offerings are great, maybe some better than others. Of course there's the iconic "One Million Years B.C." with Raquel Welch from 1966. Now that was a different movie from Hammer.

Some of these films have not yet been released on blue-ray here in the US, some are coming out soon and actually Shout/Scream Factory (just to keep this discussion within this thread) has been releasing many of the 1960's and early 1970's titles. You might want to pick up Universal's 8 movie franchise set as a starting point as well. All great movies, although Christopher Lee, interesting enough, did not appear in this franchise.

Well this is just a small fraction of information. There are several Hammer threads here including: Hammer Film A U.S. Buyers Guide. Good Luck and Happy Viewing, future Hammer fan.

Dude, those both are great enough on their own for Collector's Edition treatments!

Saw this theatrically in High School as well and really enjoyed it - though I was partially biased because of Stan Winston's involvement. Good companion piece to the novel. Just... Those CGI fire effects at the end. Oh, the 90's.

We must all be close in age. I was just six months graduated when I saw it in the theater. 1994-1998 was a magical period for me a seeing movies in the theater. I really enjoyed that time in the theaters...

I'm a huge fan of the THE RELIC. I screened a 35mm print not too long ago and it still plays well over twenty years later. There is a UK blu-ray but it's not great, I'd definitely buy it again if someone did it well.

Me, too. I'll be 41 next month. The Relic came out about halfway through my senior year of high school. Although I'd been watching movies since I was little, I started getting interested in filmmaking after seeing Jurassic Park the summer before I started high school, so the mid- and late-90s were also my magical era of theater-going. I was looking at movies from a technical point of view, finding inspiration and motivation in addition to simply enjoying them as stories. I saw so many movies in the theater from 96-98 it was crazy. Upwards of 30-35 a year, either with friends or my family. It was easily the height of my love for going to the theater. I still have ticket stubs and newspaper ad clippings from that period, and it's a great trip down memory lane whenever I look through them.

Yes! Me too, I have Mortal Kombat, ID4, Scream and quite a few others. I keep the stubs with, at first VHS, then DVDs, and now blu-rays and 4Ks of the films.

Over on "The Isle of the Dead Cancellation" thread, it is reported that "The Body Snacher" Blu-ray that Shout/Scream released, did not sell well. And members from Shout/Scream "implied" in a long podcast that this is why "Isle of the Dead" was not released. They did not mention anything about an inferior print or anything like that not wanting them from releasing IOTD!

I stand corrected in my original general statement about Shout/ Scream complaining about all older movies not selling well. But Shout/Scream's original explanation has very cagey and, really explains nothing. Very frustrating, but when it comes to Shout/Scream, I'm not susprised! They can't handle it!

Wow. You both are awesome.

I was born in '81*, so summer of 6th Grade was 'Jurassic Park' for me. And I was a Dino nut. I read the novel twice that year in preparation, though a lot of it probably went over my head.

* Is that why I'm obsessed with werewolf films, and always secretly consider Friday the 13th Part II to be the best of the franchise?

** And who else went to see Independence Day on - Independence Day? (The hype! I thought I was so awesome. )

It seems that Scream / Shout doesn't understand its customer base. Judging from the posts on this thread, its become apparent that the majority of the customer base wants slasher films, modern day franchise movies (i.e., Friday the 13th / Nightmare on Elm Street, etc.), and movies that already have multiple blu ray releases (apparently all for the sake of a slip cover and a few extra bonus features ala Collector's Editions). I'm not surprised that pre-1970s blu ray releases (with the exception of the Hammer Films releases) of horror films have not met sales expectations. Scream / Shout needs to develop a better understanding of its customer base (and apparently what they want) instead of complaining about poor sales of older films during podcasts.

I used to keep mine with the DVDs but now I have them all in a binder laid out in those plastic sleeve pages made for trading cards.

My family and I saw it on July 4, too. Haha! I don't care much for the film these days but in 1996 seeing it on July 4 with a solid out crowd was pretty spectacular and still a great memory.

No, as I stated in another post, I got my information from The Isle of the Dead Cancellation thread. It was stated by two Shout/Scream officials in a long podcast that the cancellation of IOTD was "implied" to low sales of "The Body Snachers" but they definitely did not confirm that it had anything to do with an inferior print or any such problems. Their original statement really explained nothing! I retract my original general statement that they were complaining at all older films not selling well. I was referring to their statement that "The Body Snacher" didn't sell well. Shout/Scream continues to evade all of the real issues. But that doesn't surprise me.
