I HATED Black X-Mas when it first came out on DVD. Thought it was totally moronic and a real insult to the original film. However, I rewatched it a few years ago and when I saw Morgan and Wong's names (two guys responsible for some classic, bizarre X-Files episodes) in the credits, the tone of the movie finally clicked for me. Really enjoy it a lot now.

It is also still available directly from Shout/ Scream, if anyone is looking for it.

If SF gets their hands on Cursed (2005) we might get the theatrical and unrated version of the film, but will never get the original director's cut since only two thirds of the film was completed and they would also need permission from the cast (Mandy Moore, Skeet Ulrich, Illeana Douglas, Heather Langenkamp, Scott Foley, Omar Epps, Robert Forster, James Brolin and Corey Feldman) to show the footage which they might ask for compensation!!!

I would love it if they could at least get the chance to show the deleted footage as an extra on the disc, but even then they would need permission from the cast.

I remember when talk of the reshoots and that the film was totally different before the release of the theatrical version and how Dimension Films was considering releasing the other version on disc liken to Exorcist: The Beginning/Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist but nothing came of it!!!

Hmm. I might have to check out the 2006 Black Christmas remake after all. I was always under the impression that it was universally hated pretty much.

No I definitely don’t think that lol. I disliked the original but have warmed up to it over the years. The 2006 version is my favorite of the 2 though.

Also, I’d love a director’s cut of BLACK XMAS. That film has mildly grown on me over the years, but I’d love to see a cut of the original intent before it got Harvey Scissor-Handed.
I feel like Black Xmas is prime for Scream. I mean they did the say for Willard by having separate releases of both original and remake, why not for this one too? It’s actually quite a decent remake.

I’ve also been in an 80s action movie kick lately (Cobra, Vigilante, Dark Angel - which is technically 1990 but feels pretty 80s) and discovered some movies I’ve never heard of: Number One with a Bullet and Runaway Train. Checked out the trailers and thought both look terrific. Also saw that they don’t have proper releases on blu either (Runaway Train got a Twilight Time release but I’ve never been a fan of them). I can’t help but feel that both titles would be at home under the Scream/Shout house.

Care to explain why anyone would ever need permission from the cast in order to show new or old footage from a film? Unless they own the property or have a contractual clause which prohibits certain scenes from being shown (which they won't) the cast has little to no say in the final product, including any re-edits, re-shoots, special features, etc. They were compensated for their time energy and the final product (including home video rights) is out of their control

I understand liking it, but to say it's not stupid..with a straight face? Refer to my earlier post..

I liked the film but the yellow face was really distracting. It took me out of the movie everytime the killer showed up. It somehow ruined the movie for me.

I don’t know if it’s with every release (I can’t imagine so), but Cliff from SF once said for a past release (can’t remember the film) they were going to include a gag reel. The studio told SF if they were going to use it, they had to get whoever featured in the gag reels (or their representative) to sign off on it.
