Sony doesn’t let boutique labels touch their titles, right? Only Mill Creek.

This is a great turn for them!

They've allowed Scream Factory to license several titles from them in the past but generally will not allow anyone to create new scans. As zbinks pointed out, this will likely look and sound the same as the already released disc but should come with a bunch of new extras.

A rarity nonetheless. Hopefully it keeps coming!

Sony also licenses to Twilight Time, Indicator (UK), Eureka (UK), Umbrella (AUS), and Shock (AUS).

Idle Hands is a really fun film. Watched it Halloween just gone and held up for me.

It's been a while since a Sony title was on the schedule, so perhaps this heralds a new deal?

Along with Sleepwalkers, Idle Hands is another title previously released on Blu-ray by Image. I wonder if we might see Scream double-dip on others in future?

Darkness Falls
Johnny Mnemonic (there's the Japanese cut, and plenty of scope for extras)
The Deep (they could include the extended TV cut)

I'd add Apt Pupil but I don't think anyone's going to touch that with a barge pole these days.

976-EVIL is a possibility, since the Sony release appears to be out of print.

Looking forward to the Scream Factory release of IDLE HANDS. If they commission new artwork, I hope they use this artwork on the reverse side of the sleeve.

If that's the case, it'll be good to have the Idle Hands director and cast commentary track on Blu-ray. I found the commentary track to be funnier than the movie and probably the biggest reason why I would even buy the movie haha.

I just watched my Image release of Idle Hands last October and immediately had a feeling I would be double dipping on a Scream release later on. Thankfully it's a very enjoyable film that I'd be happy to have some bonus features for.

In the Kino Lorber Forum they have been discussing Westerns and it reminded me that their are two John Carpenter telefilms that he wrote that haven't gotten a blu-ray release, do you think SF will be scraping what's left of John Carpenter's filmography for Blood River (1991) and El Diablo (1990)?

I feel like a Tales from the Darkside: The Movie Announcement is right around the corner. Over the last 6 years the El Rey Network has been a reasonably decent predictor of upcoming film releases. Typically after the initial airing of a film on the channel Scream Factory (or other studios) have come through with an announcement, particularly when the airing occurs during this time of year. I was reasonably close in my predictions that the Ghoulies films and The Wishmaster films were coming soon (though my prediction for the Cube films feel through when the Vestron line stopped putting out films). With tonight's airing of Tales from the Darkside I can't help but wonder if a June release isn't in the cards.

This is of course speculation but whenever genre films like this suddenly pop up on El Rey for a brief run, it's usually a sign of something else coming down the pipeline as well.

I expect most of these by the end of the year:

Graveyard Shift
Tales from the Darkside: The Movie
The Dead Zone
Another 48 Hrs.
Event Horizon (Collectors Edition)

June would be great, but May would be even more amazing. We still don't know what titles Scream is going to give us for May and Tales from the Darkside would be awesome.

All of those would be great. I'm not sure about Another 48 Hrs. as that would probably be a Shout Select title and we haven't gotten any Paramount titles there yet. Either way, I really hope that happens. Another 48 Hrs is long overdue and hopefully Kino gives us Extreme Prejudice as well.

If I died and the cinema gods gave me a choice to pick 3 never-realized movies to watch in movie heaven, they'd be:

3. Blood River, directed by John Carpenter w/John Wayne and Elvis Presley

2. Sunset Blvd. starring Montgomery Clift

1. Shadow Company, written by Shane Black (and Fred Dekker), directed by John Carpenter, produced by Walter Hill

...but to answer your question, no.

With this Paramount deal, I hope the unreleased Verbinski films get released. I would love to see Mousehunt and The Weather Man get the Shout label on them. As for The Mexican, that’s a Dreamworks title so I’m not sure what would with that one.
