According to DeadPit.com's latest podcast, (which talks about the whole Slasher Design/plagiarism scandal), Slasher Design will be doing the cover artwork for Scream Factory's Blu-ray of THE FOG as well as one other title this fall.

I'm really surprised they're not following everyone else's lead and cutting ties with this guy. After all the extensive and irrefutable evidence that's come to light, they're still sticking by him? I've genuinely lost respect for Scream.

Well, Scream had announced he'd been hired for two other covers (at the time, titles un-named) back in February, before the allegations came to light in early March.

Of course, the fact that all this has come to light now and Scream still hasn't made a statement is a bit of a shock.

Right, which I noted earlier, but

And the fact that they haven't distanced themselves from him since then, and in fact are apparently continuing to employ him, is what really irks me.

I would imagine it would depend on the stipulations of their contract. Maybe as worded, it's not possible for them to get out of it and are instead going to work closer with him and enforce that he do original work.

That's pretty much the stance that Fright Rags has taken...

Quote:
Jaysin at City of Horror brought this our attention and I thought I would echo my response to him here as well.

We have been working with Justin for a few years now and the first shirt we ever printed from him was the Phantasm design. That particular piece was one he approached us with, (i.e. we didn’t commission it) and we bought it from him already complete. It wasn’t until recently that I found out about the original image he used to lift the Tall Man face and sphere. To be completely honest, I thought it was an isolated case. However, it has caused me to reconsider any future printing of that design because of its origin and we will most likely pull it it once the remaining stock has sold.

I have looked back at all the other designs he has done for us so far I have not found any further evidence of lifting — at least with not our commissioned designs. With all the rest of the work he’s done for us, the images he uses are from the film, or poster artwork for the film, and used in context to the property he’s referencing. However, the article was definitely an eye-opener, and it is pretty clear on those album art covers that images were taken from other sources. I think the main difference here is that his artwork for album covers is supposed to be original, whereas the work he does for us (aside from the Phantasm design) should be using images/reference from the films.

I’m sure you can agree that Justin is talented, however I do not condone what he did. My only hope is that he enters the conversation started here to apologize and explain why he did what he did. In the meantime, I will be opening a dialogue with him in regards to where our designs originate, to ensure that this doesn’t happen with the work we commission from him.

Nobody is guilty of anything until convicted of it in my book, but with all the evidence in hand clearly scream should put those other covers on hold and pass them on to another artist or at least give osbourn the chance to pull out himself.

Being bound by their contract would be a plausible explanation, but how will they 'enforce' that he do original work? What if it turns out that his Scream covers do plagarize the art of others? Then they'll really be in for it. Regardless, as you note, the continued lack of any public statement on Scream's part - whether to partially condemn, support, or even just acknowledge what has occurred, especially when seemingly everyone else associated with him has - is unfortunate.

I also wonder if the have already printed the cover art and slipcovers for at least Lifeforce. For a smaller company like Shout Factory that would have to be a pretty big expense to ditch the existing materials and start over.

Yeah contracts can be a tricky thing but if Scream does use Justin on two more covers hopefully he will be very conscious in his artwork especially knowing everyone will be looking it over with a fine toothed comb.

As far as the Lifeforce design goes I think Scream should definitely stick with what has been made as everyone did really like it and I would want Scream to loose out financially on the deal. I too am curious though to hear an official statement from Scream, I am sure it is just a matter of time though.

so just type in American Ninja 2 Amazon and you will see one come up that says 2 dvd set Amazon.com exclusive for 14.96. I have it and was more than happy to replace my full frame dvd set of those two movies.
Check out some of the other exclusives, they just released River of Death as well.
Are they newer transfers than the older wide release of the double feature? I might upgrade if that release is better. I only paid $3 at Big lots for the original release.

It is my understanding that the older region one double feature presented both films fullframe. I believe that this new set is the first time that both films have been presented in 16:9 widescreen in region 1. I don't have the older disc to compare but both look really good and are on their own disc.

The Amazon listing for American Ninja 2 and 3 says that it's a DVD-R, though.

Correct, the TGG Amazon exclusives are Made on Demand. The quality looks great on these. I for one don't care if it is MOD or pressed so long as the quality is good and it is OAR. I have many MOD discs and am very happy with them.

Is They Came from Within being planned by anyone? Would make a good Scream title if not.

Default march madness sale at Screamfactory.com

48 hour March madness sale going on at Scream's website. The current title is THEY LIVE for $15 on blu and $13 on DVD. The sale ends tomorrow night, I believe. I think I saw that there will be more titles every couple of days. I saw a link on Facebook and didn't read all the details but I'm very excited at more films going on sale. If anybody's debating purchasing this film on bluray, don't. Its a great disc of a classic.

I'm hoping they flash sale FUNHOUSE and TERROR TRAIN. Those are the already released titles I've been really wanting over all others that I don't have yet.
