I wouldn't go that far. It's "jason" killing teens at camp crystal lake with tommy jarvis. It's not like Jason was just on t.v. in an alien invasion movie.

Yes, but it always had that 'out of place' feeling to me like H3 does.

It just doesn't feel out of place to me. Just like the first doesn't feel out of place. Or maybe it's because of the first that it doesn't feel that way.

Halloween III is too good to be associated with the rest of that franchise anyways, excluding the first 2 films.

That's exactly how I feel about Jason Goes To Hell. To me it's a rip-off / remake of New Line's The Hidden with Jason just tacked on a bit at the beginning and the end.

As for Jason X, to me it's just so far removed from what I love about the earlier films that I cannot give it any slack. I'm also one of those people who really can't stand outer space shit. I mean, I like Star Wars and Star Trek and things that are originally set in outer space, but when you take properties with a terrestrial setting and put them in space like Jason, Leprechaun, James Bond, Archer, the Regular Show, etc. that's where they prove that they've become creatively desperate and I start to lose interest.

In the case of Jason X, when it was finally released Freddy Vs Jason had been in creative hell for around 9 years with no end in sight and so it was viewed as one of the easiest/safest ways to release a new Jason movie without screwing up anything that was being developed for Freddy vs Jason. Freddy Vs Jason was always intended to pick up from the end of Jason Goes to Hell and so there really wasn't any reasonable way to create a Friday/Jason sequel that saw him leave hell only to then once again send him back to hell so that a Freddy vs Jason movie could occur. All of this was detailed in the book Slash of the Titans and arguably it would have been hard to come up with much anything else that would have made any more sense. I agree that Jason X doesn't feel like a Friday film and would understand why folks would have serious problems with it but it did work for the time as it kept the franchise going and all things considered isn't all that much worse arguably than the two films that preceded it.

Personally, HALLOWEEN is my go-to franchise but I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of the F13 flicks. I’ve always loved Part 2 above all else and came to appreciate the original more when I got to see it at a local drive-in. 3 has grown on me as the final third is where Miner shines by delivering on the suspense. The rest are fairly interchangeable to me, but I like them all depending on my mood. JGTH was another I saw young before I’d seen all the entries, even then it didn’t stand out as being such sacrilege. As others have stated, it was one that was in theaters when I was in 1st or 2nd grade, and I heard kids talk about Freddy’s glove at the end. That made it a must see. And the last time I saw it, I enjoyed it for what it is. Though, the R rated cut drastically tamps down on the fun factor. Those uncut kills truly are like the punchline to a joke. Without the gore, it’s severely lacking.

X is the only one (aside from the remake or FvJ) that I got to see in theaters upon initial release. For that, it’s got a bit of a special place in my heart, but it’s so damn cheesy...intentional or not.

I can handle almost any series and they wacky ways: Chucky going a slasher horror about a puppet to a horror comedy with actual chuckles; Nightmare on Elm St being a straight up horror to then a zinger comedy; Texas Chainssaw Massacre being one of the most defining 70s horror to a over the top series. Friday the 13th AND Halloween belong there. I like how ridiculous Halloween got as it progressed into 4-6. It's remakes also have a lot to love abou tit (it's reboot though was passable to me).
But Friday the 13th just found a way to progress and always feel true to itself. It helps that the first one, while memorable and classic to some, feels more like rose tinted glasses. It's good but not as classic as you might remember. But I think that allows it to become better with each outing. So that's why I even dig the likes of X, Vs and the remake (but GTH will always be trash - my friend and I have a running joke that F13 has 11 movies and they skipped over 9).

I already know the story behind Jason X, that's old news. They still could have easily come up with an interim film featuring Jason that didn't involve him going to outer space, which I thought was a monumentally stupid idea. That's the kind of thing that people who make fun of the franchise would come up with to mock it... "Jeez, another Jason movie, what're they gonna do next, have him go to outer space?" It's not so much a question as to whether it's a bad movie or not (though I think it is), it's just that the concept is so far removed from what the series is supposed to be that's all wrong.

Yeah, I actually forgot the ol’ Chuckster for a second. HALLOWEEN is my go-to for “serious” horror while CHILD’S PLAY will always be my heart, no matter how silly it gets.

I understand the hate JGTH receives, I just think it’s wouldn’t be nearly as bad if people were to view it as its own thing. That said, I should give it a rewatch here soon to ensure my opinion still holds. Anyone know where you can see/rent the unrated cut online?

Honestly, Jason Takes Manhattan is my third favorite in the series behind Part II and Jason Lives. I love the late '80s doofiness.

They have multiple "sales" throughout the year. Most of them aren't much of a sale though.

Given the current circumstances it's hard to say for sure that they'll follow the same schedule as previous years but there typically is a sale in early to mid June.

In case anyone might be interested, JGTH on Prime is the unrated 90 min cut despite the fact it’s labeled as R. Also, I just finished it and think it’s a helluva fun flick...Jason or not.
