I'm assuming the longer version is legally owned by another studio. This has happened before. Scream can't afford to pay off 2 studios.

Without rehashing it, you are not alone in those feelings on NOTD.
Kevin Tenney is a nice guy, but I am not a fan of his films.

Plus Wes Craven was pretty much forced to include those scenes for the Overseas Market. So this is his approved cut.

They probably would've announced Swamp Thing earlier (with the other announcements), but were waiting to see if they could get the international cut.

As it is, I'm happy that it's getting a blu release, but it sucks that we're getting the "family friendly" version.

Could it really be true that ONE person complaining about the nudity derailed ALL future hope of a legitimate reissue of the uncut version of Swamp Thing? It boggles the mind.

Regarding Night of the Demons, how did MGM get the rights?? If it's true then it's safe to assume that Shout will eventually license it. MGM seems to be out of the B-movie business so they're not releasing it themselves.

Im sure they have more MGM titles...
As for Swamp Thing, the "family friendly" version works just as well because the nudity does not add or subtract anything from the film...The scenes are not key to the film...they are just boobies...
Which reminds me of a film that I wonder what the OAR actually is...does anyone recall Fade to Black - the media VHS tape was full screen while the AB DVD was widescreen..However, in the full frame version you see Linda Kerridge's chestular region...

As I noted earlier, they did release TCM 2, Jeepers Creepers, and KKFOS last October, so we could possibly see NOTD, Witchboard and maybe Clownhouse from them this October.

Clownhouse will never be seen again, I think.

Maybe legal does not want a repeat of this headache.
I think the DVD in question was purchased at a Target store in 2004 or maybe a year earlier. Regardless, the offendee was a stupid "soccer mom" who thought her son would be forever scarred because he saw female breasts. Like you said, she made a big stink about it (likely for attention) and publicly criticized MGM leading to the disc's recall and eventual reissue....with the US PG rated cut only. Makes me wish her son would have come out as gay a few years later, cuz, ya know, female nudity is such a terrible thing. (and no, I'm not bashing gays, just the lowlife soccer mom.)

I feel sorry for the kid. He must have gotten a lot of grief at school.

You're probably right. At least I was able to purchase the MGM DVD in 2004.

Where was it confirmed that MGM has the distribution rights for Night of the Demons and Witchboard?

Even if they indeed have them, I can't see them releasing either. I mean, they passed on The Fog and The Howling, but would rather release a couple of lesser movies themselves? Perhaps they'll release some stuff like Jeepers Creepers II and The Rage: Carrie 2 when October comes around...

They're both listed on MGM's website.

They released TCM 2 and KKFOS last year, didn't they? Those presumably have a smaller audience than either The Fog or The Howling. I'm not saying it's definite (or even highly likely) that MGM will put out NOTD or Witchboard though.

Yeah, Killer Klowns is a real head scratcher. TCM 2 makes sense, since the name alone probably makes it a decent seller. Anyway, I'm still doubtful that MGM will release NOTD or Witchboard. If anything, Shout will probably scoop 'em up.

Like I said before, I could see MGM releasing some of their more recent horror flicks this October (like JC2, The Rage: Carrie 2, and Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh).

I imagine Killer Klowns, TCM2 and Jeepers Creepers were in the works long before the MGM/Scream deal was finalized, though.

Actually she rented it for her kids and their friends from Blockbuster.

So, it's Wednesday the 20th. Wonder why Scream Factory hasn't announced their March Madness deal for today yet.

*trying to be patient*
