Considering the ongoing release date changes they keep throwing out there, perhaps they've decided to take a month off. My guess is that whatever they have lined up is going to be pretty meh, as they typically don't wait when they have a solid release line up. I feel like this is going to be one of those moments where they just dump everything on us late in the day in one quick lump and then that's it as they don't appear to have anything they want to hype up this month. Here's to hoping I'm wrong about that.

I’ve been picking up some Asian horror films on DVD that don’t have BDs (and maybe never will).

This last month or two I really hit the old DVD market harder than I have in a long time. I picked up Sorority House Massacre II, and Night of the Demons 3 but have been eyeing several B and C level sequels for a number of different horror film franchises as I try to find some good prices on a number of releases.

It seems every few months I get the urge to do that for some horror films as well. Right now like I said I’ve been working through Asian horror & some serial killer thrillers.

Joining the parade of shipping notifications my 2 orders from 5/8 finally shipped out. Im glad the whole orders are been sent and not partials. I rather wait to get everything together than bits and pieces as I don't like to have to keep track of what is still pending but thats just me.
I think this overwhelming oop sale SF had might have revealed true what many people have suggested here that SF sells product without it been in stock and press them as they go. The shipping delays are only explained if this is the case. Blaming Covid-19 only buys you a certain amount of delay on shipping not a month's worth especially when other companies out there including some from Europe! are delivering stuff to the US in a much faster fashion.

In the last month or so I've been doing the same. I collected all of the After Dark Horror Fest Film (most of which are not available on Blu-Ray) DVD's and I've been watching a couple of them a week.

For some reason I thought I posted here, (I didn't, due to getting into an argument with someone here) but on Facebook I asked them when we might hear about their Sept titles and they said Monday probably. They also said it's going to be a light month due to COVID. I'm guessing no major titles. Probably a Hammer title and a double dip, but I would love to be wrong.

Most were fun...minus the last years of the fest titles specifically the mod ones on Amazon. When they were bad they were BAD. Like Housekeeping.

I very much enjoyed the other lines that came out around the same time. Ghost House Underground line, Xlrater Macbre line, and for the most part the Fangoria line has been fantastic. With exceptions like the Godaweful Blood Drive dvds. For the most part Bloody Disgustings line has been fun. But again the bad ones are total pos.

DVDs? What's that?

On a more serious note, I'm amazed at how psyched up I was about DVDs back in the day. I haven't bought a DVD in like five years, and I don't think I ever will again. Once you go blu, nothing else will do. Lol

I've bought about a dozen DVDs over the last couple of years. Sometimes it's the only way to get something, and I'd rather have it on DVD than not at all.

Also still rent plenty of DVDs from Netflix since (again) there either is no Blu-ray or Netflix just doesn't have the Blu-ray version.

The problem is not everything has a BD release.

I just received Deadly Blessing minus the slip directly from Shout and it had the lazy shrink wrapping like you're describing and most of their slipless Collector's Editions I get from Amazon come that way too. I hate it because whatever process they use also warps the clear plastic on the case. However a few I have received haven't been wrapped that way. I got a slipless Lord of Illusions directly from Shout and From Beyond from Amazon that didn't have slips and they were shrink wrapped in the more professional, high quality way.

Yup. That's one of the main reasons why I always stock up on replacement cases.

So have I been bidding against you all week? I just started trying to complete my collection as well but I’ve been looking for the box sets.

I do as well. It’s a nice investment. I’m guessing the heat ripples the plastic just enough so that it can’t be straightened out. Those and eco cases get replaced then thrown in the recycle bin. I keep a few for shipping purposes.

We must have missed each other by a couple of weeks as I just got the last one in the mail earlier this week. I remember going to one of the theaters that hosted the first festival in college, but I never got around to checking out any of the movies from the following installments. There's some pretty crazy stuff mixed in with some real stinkers.

I think the Hammer title Brides of Dracula might be a safe bet. And I hope The Dead Zone. Although, if that one isn't announced soon, I think I would begin to wonder if they really do have it.

I completely agree! Some of the newer, extreme, challenging, horror/gore/exploitation movies are only released on DVD. For example, I've bought a lot of movies from Wild Eye Releases, and most of them are DVD-only. If I had not even given them a chance, just for this reason, I would have missed out on, to say the very least, some of the more "crazy" (and sometimes very good) movies in my collection. For anyone who is curious about Wild Eye movies, Grindhouse Video has 10 pages of them. "Cat Sick Blues" is one of the most purely insane and disturbing ones. Wild Eye releases are all over the place though, from psychological horror, creature features, extreme gore, found footage/POV films, to goofy horror-comedies, and so much more. Here's the Grindhouse link to all of their Wild Eye movies: https://grindhousevideo.com/collecti...itle-ascending
