My local Walmart has a few copies of Candyman. Random. Still waiting to find at least one Vinegar Syndrome title, since they appear to sell some online.

The folks at Severin have often talked about wanting to do the films, but Morrissey absolutely will not license the films to anyone.
Thanks for the reply, didn’t know that.

I don't know that his politics have anything to do with it. They didn't get in the way of him making those films, in the first place. Way back in 2013, Cliff MacMillan mentioned that he had to "pick titles that will make back the money we put into them," and that "Warhol's DRACULA and FRANKENSTEIN" were titles that would probably never come out.

Hindsight being 20/20, I get the impression that Paul Morrissey may be yet another aging rights-holder that has an outdated view regarding how lucrative his licensing fees should be.

I can see Scream doing a special edition, but I wouldn't think that remastering is in the cards, since it's from the digital intermediate era (unlike House on Haunted Hill, Thirteen Ghosts, and Ghost Ship).

Can you point to a source for Paul Morrissey denouncing/disowning his films based on his political views?

This should give you the gist of things. It doesn't explicitly spell out that he is denouncing/disowning the films (quite the contrary in fact) but it's not a stretch to think that he may have made more recent comments in which he has distanced himself from them. I think the real take-away from this interview though is that he's likely just not all that interested in putting the effort into releasing them.

He seems like he'd make for a really entertaining Commentary track if this interview is any indication.

From that interview, it actually seems like he is still fond of his films; he just doesn’t care much about them. If anything is preventing these films from being released on Blu-Ray, I don’t think it has much to do with his “political beliefs,” rather, I simply can’t imagine the man in that interview actually negotiating a Blu-ray licensing deal... he’s clearly become a bit more unhinged with age.

So it's either going to be next week or the week after, but we are getting really close to the biggest horror month in terms of announcements.

I'm really curious to see what Scream has in store for us, and I really do hope it's some big titles.

Given the delays and difficulties as a result of Covid-19, I'm not expecting much in the way of quantity. I think Brides of Dracula is a certainty, and I would hope that the rumoured Friday the 13th set is also. But given the work involved with the latter, I wouldn't be surprised if those two titles were it for October. Maybe one more on top of that, a non-CE (maybe a Paramount title - Fire in the Sky would be nice).

Since it is almost certain Scream are the ones behind the new release of Freaked (news of which first broke last year I believe), I'm surprised they didn't get that out in August to capitalize on the release of Bill and Ted Face the Music. Maybe it'll be a November or December release to coincide with the home video release of Bill and Ted 3?

I see that CANDYMAN is selling for ten bucks again on Amazon---

does anyone have any insight on why this particular title is always being sold so low?
I don't see any other Scream Collector's Editions being given away....

I'm fully prepared to expect very little that would interest me this year. I don't need another F13th set and Warner appears to be keeping a tight hold on some stuff I thought Shout would acquire, like Deadly Friend and Alone In the Dark. There's not much left from Paramount that would interest me unless Shout picks up titles like Breakdown or Nick of Time for the Select line.

Maybe they'll surprise us and announce they cracked open Lionsgate?
They're clearly uninterested in making the Vestron line work.

Every time we think the Vestron line is dead, someone bumps the thread to ask if there are updates then someone else chimes in and assures us more titles are coming because they heard Michael Felsher say so on some podcast. It's a cruel and vicious cycle

I don't think Lionsgate has anything left worth losing sleep over. They own catalogs from so many defunct companies but in many cases they have no elements for them or only have tape masters - probably the main reason why the line has died out. We got 17 titles out of them - way more than we had a right to expect out of a studio that doesn't really care.

Yeah, I'd be happy with a Friday set finally being announced, but the Dead Zone is what I'm crossing my fingers for.

It seems like it's been awhile since they have released a Fox title and I figured that deal was over, but Freaked would be nice. As you said, I would have expected this out in August with the new Bill and Ted film. If they still have Fox titles, this gives me some hope for Death Sentence.

Lionsgate still has Extreme Prejudice. That alone makes make me wish someone would get a deal with them. Would also really like Shadow of the Vampire.

If WAC doesn't release Deadly Friend or Alone in the Dark in October, I'm thinking maybe Scream has them and is just pacing things out. I think Breakdown is a safe bet, and Nick of Time has potential of getting a release.

From Paramount the main thing I want is Dead Zone. Followed by Another 48 Hours, A Simple Plan, The Parallax View, Black Sunday...ok...there is actually a lot I want from Paramount.
