This was a release that as far as I was aware was permanently put on the back-burner with no ETA. That said, both Best buy and Amazon still have pages up to pre-order the title with the August 18th, 2020 release date.. no sign of it on Shouts own website as you stated though so who knows what's going on with that one.

Yeah, I wish I would’ve snapped a pic. They had a pretty good selection with a bunch of empty slots, possibly for more? The only one I saw with a slip cover was Big Trouble in Little China. I’m hoping this is a nationwide thing.

Unrelated but...

Not sure if it's been mentioned or not (or if anyone cares) but Shout has stealthily added another indie film to the August lineup. "The Soul Collector" has been added to the release schedule on August 4th. This does not appear to be an IFC title as far as I can tell.

Pre-ordered. I saw the trailer about a week ago and it looks good.

I hadn't bothered to check the trailer until you mentioned it just now. There are aspects that look really good and then there are a few aspects (like the final bathtub shot) that have been done many times before (and better from what I could see) that somewhat diminish my interest in the film. It appears to be available right now as an HD rental on Prime. The price is not bad so I may end up pre-ordering as well, but I'll wait to see how July's sales go first. I have little doubt I'll buy it eventually.

I just got a refund from Shout and that order is cancelled...

It's not on their site to order, anymore, either...

Huh...very odd...my Amazon order is still in place but I'm sure that'll be soon gone if it's not on their site anymore.

Wow that can't be good. If the release has indeed been cancelled, I'm guessing one of the following occurred:

1) They couldn't find usable elements for a new HD transfer

2) There was an issue with ownership, and it turned out perhaps that this was with Fox after all, and thus a new HD master couldn't be made

...or another victim of COVID-19. Maybe they couldn't get anyone to participate due to restrictions and decided to postpone the release. Just as well - I'd rather not see people being interviewed via Skype. Quality is horrible.

We hate to break bad news but our previously announced Blu-ray release of the 1981 thriller TATTOO has been cancelled.

We're sincerely sorry for getting hopes up for anyone who was interested in the release. (We were excited about it too.) Unfortunately, it was discovered later in our production process that we did not have usable film elements to create a new and suitable HD master. If any developments that are promising on that front surfaces in the future, we’ll put it back on the schedule and re-announce.

If you pre-ordered through us directly on our site, our customer service department has issued refunds as of today. Please allow for up to 5 business days for them to be processed."

Such a bummer. I was really looking forward to that one.

Putting the cart before the horse? Maybe just maybe they might have known if it were possible to create this film before they announced it months before the supposed release date. What is wrong with this company?

Did Scream Factory's deal with IFC Midnight end? Lots of those titles are going OOP, and IFC is starting to release their films on Blu-ray themselves.

Yeah, this seems a bit fishy. Why in the world would you announce something with a release date if you don't have the release set up yet. Doesn't make sense. I can't think of any other time this has happened with another company.

"Tattoo" had a wide national theatrical release from a major studio.

Surely there has to be a few surviving usable prints out there, even though it's been decades. A print may not be as good as the neg or interpositive, but they've used prints in the past in situations like this.

Maybe search a little harder? Or it's possible, crunching the numbers on how much a title like this would move, it's just not worth their energy.

Well, we in South Florida have the shittiest Walmarts for movies. I just left the one right by me, and the only Shout title they had was Candyman, which I don't care about. And not only that, I think the movie section was like 60 or 70% DVDs. Yuck. I might try another Walmart that's ten minutes down the road, but I don't expect it to be any better.
