They don't always need to go for Eddie Murphy (still would be a nice get) and with Craven's passing they could still talk with his children or his production partner Marianne Maddalena. Maybe Angela Bassett would have done an interview and they could have done an interesting discussion on Blaxploitation in the 90s, there is definitely material to work with!
You saying it might not be a strong acquisition, confirms my point that a "Wes Craven Film" doesn't pull a lot of weight at SF and since learning of them passing on other films because of lack of interest on their part, tells me their not big fans of Cravens work! even though Wes Craven has a built in fan base.....

I buy a lot of horror... probably more than what most folks would consider healthy. I also buy as many Scream Factory releases as I can as quickly as I can... that said, my interest in picking up Vampire in Brooklyn is quite low. Not as low as several other SF titles, but still low. Saying that Scream Factory isn't interested in Craven may not be accurate or fair. If it turns out that Scream Factory is in fact releasing a Friday the 13th set then I would think that that franchise took up a lot of their licensing money. Add in the other great by comparison collectors editions and it's easy to see why Vampire in Brooklyn would have been passed on this round, but could be something they snag during a future deal.

i only watched this for the first time and this is actually pretty fun and good. a lot of people who hate and shit on it didn’t see the movie, and are only reviewing the reception.

now, this isn’t mind blowing like near dark. or super hilarious and over the top like blood diner. so temper your expectations. this is not scary and is totally a comedy. i can’t think of something to really compare it to.

but....if you’re the type of person who would buy the hills have eyes II (where the dog has a flashback) or if you’ve sat through my soul to take... or his tv movie invitation to hell...

vampire in brooklyn is absolutely a better movie than any of those.

Join the club! Horror sci-fi is heavily collected in everything from movie memorabilia to physical media movies... it's normal for "collectors"

I love cheesy horror TV movies so I proudly own that one and I like it better than VAMPIRE IN BROOKLYN

I wouldn't go that far in this case. Yes, Vampire In Brooklyn is one of the titles I expected them to have when the Paramount deal was confirmed, and yes, we'd discussed their history of passing on titles they didn't have an interest in, but I think in this case, saying they have a blanket disinterest in Craven's work is a stretch. They released Deadly Blessing (one of the first 10 titles released under the SF line, in fact), Swamp Thing, The People Under The Stairs, Shocker and The Serpent And The Rainbow, so they're not against releasing his work.

Plus, the "heavy hitters" in Craven's catalog were usually considered to be off limits. Up until a couple years ago, Warner's catalog was pretty much off-limits, meaning that the Elm Street franchise (and Deadly Friend) were off the table, and Lionsgate had the Miramax library, meaning that the Scream franchise was unavailable as well. Not to mention that Arrow's already done The Last House On The Left and the Hills Have Eyes films.

That pretty much leaves all "lesser tier" Craven films, and while I haven't seen the sales numbers for the titles they did release, at this point, I suspect they weren't good enough for them to seek out any of Craven's films that weren't "big" titles.

It sucks, but as long as these titles eventually get released for the fans that do want them, regardless of the label or studio that does it, that's all that really matters.

I think Deadly Friend would be a good seller on Blu-ray. Hopefully this gets a release from them or WAC.

if you’ve never seen it, it’s worth checking out. but it’s not the worst craven and it’s not even the worst horror movie that came out that year.

and it’s bonkers to think this is the movie he made before scream.

Horror is the main genre I buy & it makes up the majority of my collection as it’s my favorite movie genre. It’s also mostly what I watch .

It's hard to compare the early years of SF releases to today, Deadly Blessing had only ever had a VHS release before SF gave us the DVD/Blu release. If they had been lucky enough to get a Paramount license back then I'm pretty sure SF wouldn't of had any qualms about releasing Vampire in Brooklyn or any of the other "lesser tier" Craven films! They've done it before with other directors who it appears SF like more. Those first 2 years of Scream Factory was like the Wild Wild West! you never knew what would be announced next.
It's been 4 years since the last Wes Craven film was released from SF. I'd also point out that when Arrow released Last House on the Left Scream Factory still had a deal going on with MGM at the time and I'm sure if the film had been directed by Carpenter they would have snatched it up! I'm not debating that SF would release the Nightmare or Scream series if they got the chance, it's pretty obvious they would but it would be more because of the popularity of the films and less for the Craven factor!
Now I'm a huge Wes Craven fan, I've watched the good, the bad and the ugly of his film catalogue and I'd still buy the films (which I have) that are a dumpster fire of awfulness! I can only really think of 4 other horror directors that ever warrant that type of loyalty from their fans!

The first horror movie I ever bought as a kid was Halloween (1978). It had a red Blockbuster banner on the box art. Been hooked ever since.

Halloween was a big reason I got into horror after first seeing it in the mid-90s and that was also the first horror movie I ever bought on VHS. Wish I still had it just for nostalgia.

I’m excited. All this talk of Craven has me hoping we’re finally going to see DEADLY FRIEND get a release. It’s got that 80s trick or treating nostalgia going for it during one of the major sequences. It’d be a perfect October release.

The 'lesser' tier Craven film I would love to see fully uncut on blu-ray, which SF won't release but Vinegar Syndrome might, is " The Fireworks Woman". The subject matter could be labeled as sexual horror !
