The gist of it WB still owns the film internationally and owns the sequels, but the rights to the original film are now with Craven's estate. If WB is still distributing the original, then nothing's changed in terms of releases; they just don't make as much money off it anymore. |

But Warner is still distributing all the movies, including the first one, so i don't see it being a big factor. But who knows. |

I actually saw Terror In the Aisles theatrically when I was a kid. It was the second feature in a double bill. Don't remember much about it but I didn't realize it's a "documentary" made up of clips of horror films until recently. What an odd choice to pick up. I don't really have 90 minutes to watch a montage of clips - I'd rather watch the entire films

If they do use the same disc for Freddy vs. Jason, I hope they use the one that came with the original tin box set. It had a DTS-HD MA 6.1 audio track, which I thought sounded better than the Dolby True HD 5.1 track that was on the original stand-alone release.

Also bear in mind that we're probably talking about at least another year, so who knows, Scream might have embraced 4K releases themselves by then and offer a 4K set. That said, you'd then get people clamouring for a 4K upgrade of the F13th set, and realistically I can't see that happening (especially as a few of the films in the series don't look to be getting new 4K scans). |

I don't have much hope that the Craven estate will play ball for a complete collection.
Dead by Daylight, is a survival horror which utilizes iconic film slashers like Michael Myers and Ghostface. Freddy Kruger was added in lot the game October 2017, but when the game received a port for the Nintendo Switch September 2019, Freddy was mysteriously absent. The ongoing belief is that the Craven estate, upon gaining control over the rights, prevented the usage of Freddy in this new port since this didn't happen to other DLC characters. While it's not entirety clear how this can affect the distribution of the NOES movies, if the Craven estate is truly responsible for what happened in Dead by Daylight, I have to wonder if they could pose as an obstacle here too. |

It's a financial thing; the more films there are in a franchise, the more $$ needs to be spent. Historically, long-running franchises have always gotten the shaft the further out you go from the first 2 or 3 films. Frankly I'm surprised we're getting fresh 4K scans for II-IV.

Or...something something "Scream bad", and/or some assumption that a third party label will pay the massive licensing, scanning, and production cost to make a full 4K UHD set in less than a year. |

I don't think that's too big an issue considering all the legal hell the Friday franchise is going through currently & this set is still a reality. With Nightmare being way more stable; I think that's et would be much easier assuming the parties involved want to do it.

I have to say though, last time I watched New Nightmare I was cringing hard. I thought that one was decent at the time, but yikes. It did not hold up for me. |
