The Dream Master has some of the best replay value out of the whole series to me. I dont know what makes me keep going back to this one, the characters, the cinematography, the music, and even the deaths are good and you feel for the characters when they meet their doom. I can see how Freddy becomes a comic book character in this one and some of the terror evolves into laughs but Renny Harlin's effort is one of the best sequels IMO.

EDIT: I originally mistakenly wrote Dream Warriors. My apologies.

very unpopular opinion: i think nightmare on elm street 2 is the most undervalued sequel of the series.

I find Freddy to be the most sinister in this one and most creepy. One of my favorites and it seems to finally after years of being overlooked, have found it's audience.

the musical score is great, too. a real 180 from charles bernstein's score for the original. the soundscape is so eerie. friggin' orca whales layered in the background. gives me the CREEPS.

I agree and I'll raise you an even more controversial opinion: I hated Dream Warriors. The only Nightmare film I rank below it is Freddy's Dead - and even then, Freddy's Dead has "so bad its good" rewatch value.

When I was younger (Middle School age) I went through all the major horror franchises and I always thought that NOES2 and Freddy's Dead were some of the worst slasher movies I've ever seen. Throughout the years however I've really grown to appreciate NOES2 and I think it's probably (besides the originally) the most actually scary/atmospheric of the NOES films. FD is still horrible (in my opinion), but I definitely see the appreciation for part 2. If we do get a new set of the NOES films I hope we get a commentary for it.

As for the Friday box set, is anyone else a little annoyed that part 2 still hasn't gotten any commentary love?

if you have shudder, you should check out the documentary on there called scream, queen. it addresses the whole notion of part 2 being the "gay elm street" sequel and talks in depth with mark patton. all the major participants of the movie are on hand too. it was really interesting.

Freddy's Revenge is a fascinating entry in the series. I would definitely say Freddy is at his scariest in this film. I love the fleeting glimpses of him in the first act.

I hate how these threads always turn into "this sequel sucks" or "only the first film is worth watching" etc. I'm not against people expressing their opinions, just HOW they express them. Like if they hate a sequel everyone is supposed to hate it too. Also, I don't see how someone can call themselves fans of a franchise but hate any of the films in the franchise. Dislike, maybe, but outright hate?

I'd really rather not.

I like all of the Friday films to varying degrees and that's all I'll say about that.
