This talk of projectors and 3D has gotten my little nerd heart going pitter patter. For those making the upgrade to enjoy F13 3D, I have to also recommend Kino’s PARASITE release. It’s hands down one of the favorite 3D discs in my collection and it’s certainly a case where the 3D adds a tremendous amount to the overall enjoyment of the film.

That said, I’m a tad concerned that SF apparently didn’t involve the 3DFA with this release. It’s a monumental title for 3D home video and they’ve proven to be the go to team for proper restoration. Let’s hope SF learned from the kinks in AMITYVILLE 3 and METALSTORM. The later had a fairly strong presentation (Aside from a handful of shots) but AMITYVILLLE seemed off to my eye.

Uh, perhaps I was misleading, because that is not what I meant at all.

It's more like... I buy stuff to collect it, but later on down the line if the going rate gets high enough, I feel like I almost HAVE to sell it. Hard to rationalize a $500 bookend.

I didn't buy any of my 1,500 movies to sell. That doesn't mean they don't get sold. I bought my Halloween Deluxe set on release for whatever it was ($100?), but I'd have been crazy to not get $500 for it on eBay.

My Vincent Price set paid for the next 10 Scream Collectors Editions. And lo and behold, I can replace that on the cheap here pretty soon here.

Buy low, sell high.

I imagine something similar will happen with the Friday set.

I've been eyeing a silver ticket acoustically transparent screen for some time now. I've recently been debating a 16:9 screen vs a 2.35:1 screen. Any thoughts on that given the time you've now spent with your setup?

Mine is 16:9, but sometimes I wish I had the 2.35:1. I think when I upgrade to one of Epson's 4K 3-D projectors, I'm going to get the wider screen. There is a lens attachment that blows up the wider screen movies so they fill the 2.35:1 screen. Some projectors have this feature built in, too, from what I understand. Also, it all depends how much space you have in the room where you're going to put your projector and screen. Make sure you read the specifications for whatever projector you're buying to make sure you have enough distance to fill whatever screen you plan to use. I believe I needed roughly 13 feet from the lens to the wall in order to have enough distance to fill the entire 120-inch screen.

The absolute ideal way to watch Part 3 at home would be to have the 2.35:1 screen and the proper 3-D projector set-up, because the movie is widescreen Panavision. Of course, a good sound system to go with it would help, too. But, watching it on a 16:9 screen would be awesome, too. As long as the screen is big and you have a proper 3-D setup, Part 3 will be an incredible experience.

Parasite is great, and for anybody planning to upgrade their home theater to accommodate 3-D in preparation of getting Part 3, Parasite is highly recommended as it's available right now. It's actually one of Kino's top sellers.

I'm hopeful we'll be OK with the restoration for Part 3. Paramount did it themselves, and being this is part of a very successful franchise, I'm optimistic they did it right.

Your thoughts more or less mimic what I have been thinking. Masking off the sides of a 2.35:1 screen seems like less of a problem and less wasteful than black bars on a 16:9 screen to me. The only real nagging issue for me is that since horror is by far and away my preferred genre that there aren't nearly as many 2.35:1 films which spring to mind so a fair bit of my viewing could see the screen masked off. Decisions Decisions.

Put it this way, a 16:9 screen has worked perfectly fine for me for the past eight years. I originally had a 106 inch pull down screen, and when I upgraded the projector, I went with a 120-inch fixed frame.

My problem is if I went for the 2.35:1 screen now, it would have to be really big. It would have to have the same height as what I already have (because I'm spoiled), only wider on both sides. Not sure if I have enough wall for that.

You've got three months to get it together for this big release, and I guarantee it will be worth it when you see knives and arrows sticking out of the screen.

not going to lie, when some rando mentioned something that an announcement was going to shock the horror crowd... i was really hoping that it was going to be a blu ray version of the ultimate edition of dawn if the dead. still hoping that happens.

why can’t you dorks try and endlessly post that into existence instead of another friday set?

Hilarious. You complained about the Friday set being mentioned in other threads. My response to you was in so many words “Well, it’s a major franchise and it’s going to brought up in most horror threads just like a potential US DAWN OF THE DEAD release will be until that happens.” Thanks for proving my point.

It's safe to say we won't be seeing Dawn of the Dead in the US anytime soon. At least not this year. No one will be able to top Second Sights release anyways. I'm sure i'll double dip and pick up a 4K of a US release if it ever happens, but for now i'm stoked for the SS release!

Hope they sell the Uncut Jason Goes To Hell as a standalone at some point. I'm happy with my tin set, EXCEPT that one issue. I know they did that with one of their Halloween titles that had an exclusive Producer's Cut, so hopefully this will happen with F13 as well.

Misery loves company is the ages old saying isn't it? You can't stand that a ton of us are excited and happy and looking forward to this release so you want to try and drag us down to your petty , low, depressing and bitter level. It won't work pal.

You could try to sell the tin set to try & make up some of the cost of the new set.

I would think the value of the tin has or will drop dramatically after the announcement of the new set.

The value already has dropped significantly. Last week they were selling for $200-300 and now they're dipping below a hundred. I see some auctions hovering at $50 now.

They raised their price. I canceled my SF order and ordered from Grindhouse just after midnight on the 14th and I paid $129.99.

The tin set value will probably go back up again after the SF set goes OOP.

There are still people out there who a) don't participate on message forums and b) never heard of Shout Factory. It's those folks who will pay through the nose for this

It totally depends on the studio, the barebones standalone Producer's Cut release of Halloween 6 came out from Miramax/Lionsgate a year after the release of the Scream Factory Halloween set.

It wasn’t a re-release by SF. Both Halloween sets came out at the same time. The 15-disc version just went out of print much quicker.
