I believe in that (Prom Night II) so much I'd order more than 1 copy, more like 3-5. I have friends and family who aren't as, in-the-know, about bluray releases as I am...let alone knowing to visit a forum like this.

I'd buy it as well, although I am fully in Cliff's corner when it comes to Howling II. That thing is an abomination!

Your right, it was Ms. 45. Ultimately its Cliff having to justify a title to the investors which can be really difficult considering the subject matter of the film.

I personally think(by no mean does this make it so) that things can sell quite differently though through different marketing. For example Prom Night 2 might not of sold well when MGM released it on DVD but if introduced to the Scream Factory line and found a larger market of horror fans maybe the sales wouldn't be that bad. I think past data can only tell you so much really, different things find new homes at different times. That being said going against past data is a gamble too, there is the chance that the sales curve stays the same so I can see the risk involved and the hesitation to go against past data.

It's not even so bad it's good, it's just a piece of shit. Hell, a lot of horror films some people are wanting on Blu-ray here are crap. |

I did this before in the Blue Underground thread and I'll do something similar here.
IMDB.com keeps track of the number of registered users that claim to have seen a movie and have assigned it a rating. There are apparently over 42 million registered users, so the sample size is large enough to give a pretty good indication on how popular a film really is. Scream Factory films with prior DVD releases in the US:
*The Nest's previous DVD release was via New Concorde, not MGM. It was also a full frame transfer. **The Island and The Incredible Melting Man were only available as MOD DVD-Rs. Released Scream Factory films without prior DVD releases in the US
Unreleased Scream Factory films without prior DVD releases in the US
Other titles with prior DVD releases:
Notes: This is not sales data, though I think it may be a good indicator to what the sales potential for a given title might be. Newer films can tend to skew significantly higher than older films. IMDB.com's user demographics skew heavily to demographics that are ages 45 and under. Films that appeal to an older demographic may not be as well represented on IMDB.com as films that appeal to a younger fanbase. Films with previous DVD/Blu-Ray releases will skew higher than films that don’t as that as they have greater exposure in the age of the internet. Last edited by zbinks; 03-28-2013 at 02:14 PM. yeah you're probably right...but if Scream Factory keeps on getting more fans many of these fans will buy titles just because they are released as a Scream Factory title. Criterion for instance, many of their titles would be much weaker seller's if they weren't released through Criterion...sooooo many people will buy(or at very least check out) a title much more easily if it is in the Criterion Collection.

Love the From Beyond disc.
The film looks gorgeous and the interview with Barbara Crampton is a treat; she's so refreshingly gung-ho about her work. Loved her answer to whatever happened to Katherine: "She's probably in an insane asylum. No, Reagan kicked her out, she's on the street. Begging for money." Why isn't this woman being utilized in more movies? |

These are surprisingly easy to find at B&Ms in Winnipeg. HMV (which I know doesn't operate in the U.S.) stocks a lot of them. |

I agree with this 100%. Film fans today are much more discerning and expect high quality from even the lowest-budget exploitation release for their money. How many copies of SPARTACUS has Universal sold on Blu-ray versus how many people have decided to hang onto their Criterion DVD and just wait for the Criterion edition Blu? I don't claim to have any inside knowledge of sales numbers but I'd wager that very few people took the dive for the Universal. I believe the same principle could apply to something like PROM NIGHT II. Maybe people passed on the Fox DVD because it was bare-bones. Some people may have passed because it didn't have the original art on the cover, whatever the reason. It doesn't mean the film doesn't have many fans. I think if Shout were to release a Blu of the film with special features they would sell quite a bit of copies. People want quality for their money and that's what they'll pay for. |

The Island had a MOD DVD-R release by Universal.
