I have the Scream titles but the shout select titles threw me off. Bought Pink Panther And Buckaroo Bonzai.

It's also kind of sad that it's going out of print because that means Scream has no plans for a 4K UHD blu-ray release for it and probably the other Carpenter's. That's why I just bought the UK 4k blu's of this, The Fog, They Live and Prince of Darkness.

If you're referring to this page, it's just a list of titles going OOP in 2020, not an actual sale.

No, Scream said their licenses expire next month.

It has occurred to me that the reason they are just now mentioning these titles is that they may have been trying to renew their license but failed to come to terms with MGM.

yeah, plus Cmack confirmed that SF's been trying to obtain 4K UHD rights to certain titles but most studios are not willing to license those out.

I think several of those titles on that list have UHD written all over them, especially EFNY. There's a 4K out in the UK, so someone may be releasing it here also. That would be a reason Scream would not want to renew some of those titles. Why renew for a blu, when a 4K is coming soon..

Looks like Warner has distribution rights to a certain amount of MGM titles. Seems they would have UHD rights unless SF can make a deal.

Everybody figure there'll be more MGM titles going away after this? I'm thinking I wanna pick up another copy of The Fog for a friend who JUST got a blu-ray player...

Those are some major titles that Scream Factory no doubt would have renewed if they could’ve. Mad Max is their #2 best selling title (at least as of a couple years ago), so it’s not like they were poor sellers. It’s possible that MGM really isn’t renewing licenses or doing any more deals ATM, which may have to do with their deal with Fox expiring. It’s possible they may become available again after the dust settles. It may also be possible that their new home video partner isn’t as interested in licensing deals, which would definitely be a shame because MGM is probably the most license-friendly studio, and their catalog is something of the bread-and-butter for many labels.

Wonder if they'll re-release all MGM releases normally or through Warner Archive.

So what’s the deal with this? It’s not listed here in the database. Fox distributed the first release in 2012, and the releases after that were from Shout. Does this mean the Shout releases are also going OOP?

Managed to nab Child's Play and Escape from NY (standard edition) from Shout's store for $19 and $15 respectively. TCM 2 was sold out, so I ordered it from Amazon for $22, but it isn't expected to ship for 1-2 months. Praying that it eventually ships. I already own Mad Max and Carrie.

Mad Max is currently on the Criterion Channel, so I have a fair guess as to who will be acquiring it next. Which is so, so cool and I can't wait.

TCM 2 is officially sold out from Shout. Glad I got my order in earlier today!

Very Interesting... Did anyone pick up this release? And is it a new disc with a Warner Bros logo prior to the menu, or the 2012 release Fox logos and all?

If Warner is distributing MGM titles now, they could have ones from the Fox distribution deal MGM had licenced to other labels. This could also explain why several MGM titles released by Arrow, Shout, and Kino are going OOP.

Criterion and Shout regularly work with Warner Bros for licencing select titles. It's not like Warner would completely block licencing of MGM titles from this point on, as MGM is most likely calling the shots on a title by title basis as they did during the Fox distribution deal. However, they may block licencing certain big titles like Mad Max and Bill and Ted to other labels and have Warner release them themselves.

What does it matter if it might be going OOP? Why not just do it anyway? That's a pretty bangin' gift.

I'm glad I acted early. I ordered the four (Carrie, TTCM2, EFNY, Manhunter) I wanted shortly after the announcement. I'd been on the fence about TTCM2 for a long time and this managed to kick my ass off of it in a matter of minutes. Looking forward to watching Manhunter & Escape From New York, for they are blind-buys.

just because it’s on the channel doesn’t mean they might put something out.

they had soylent green and clockwork orange earlier in the year. and they just added the deep. but there have been no announcements about releases for these titles.

Indeed. Shout Factory itself has streaming rights to a number of films that they haven't released on BD so I wouldn't read anything into who has what on their streaming channel.

Yep. The only time it matters is if a film starts with the Criterion and Janus Films logos.
