Get those orders in while you can.
Looks like I'm gonna have to eat my words. I assumed that all the MGM titles that SF were letting the rights lapse on were ones they felt weren't worth renewing, sales wise. We know Escape From New York and Mad Max (regardless of what you think of that release's quality) were high sellers for them, throwing that argument right out the window.

It honestly makes it seem like it's something to do with MGM's library overall (especially since Arrow has some MGM titles going OOP as well, including Killer Klowns From Outer Space).

Luckily, I've got all of those (except for the Escape From New York steelbook, which I'm not particularly worried about getting), along with Buckaroo Banzai and The Pink Panther, so I'm good on this round.

SF's release of Child's Play is a 2-disc set with a bunch of extras and has a newer transfer (which I personally like more than the MGM disc). I have it with the last Chucky box set and I'm happy with it.

The Criterion Channel has had stuff from other labels like Shout Factory and Arrow available to stream before (I haven't looked, but from what I've heard, The Last House On The Left is on there right now). It's not really a sign as to whether a future Criterion release is in the cards.

I'm glad I acted early. I ordered the four (Carrie, TTCM2, EFNY, Manhunter) I wanted shortly after the announcement. I'd been on the fence about TTCM2 for a long time and this managed to kick my ass off of it in a matter of minutes. Looking forward to watching Manhunter & Escape From New York, for they are blind-buys.
True story. With a couple of kids, I'm pretty budget conscious in this climate, but I picked up a copy of EFNY as well as I know he'l appreciate them.

I don’t think Killer Klowns is OOP. It only came out two years ago. There’s no way the license expired already unless the film itself has some legal issues that arose. If it was an issue with the wider MGM catalog, I would think it would be more obvious. It’s most likely just out-of-stock on Amazon and other places. You can still find it for decent prices elsewhere (like Bull Moose).

One could wish. But plenty of films have been on the Channel that are already on blu-ray elsewhere.

I too thought the same thing when I subscribed to the channel and saw Sightseers. Thought that had a chance to be on Criterion only to discover they only acquire streaming rights for a limited time.
(But if IFC wants to re-release on blu, I wouldn't complain)

It was part of MVD's last chance sale of soon to be OOP Arrow titles.

As for the future... there's a new tv show coming in winter 2021, MGM has been toying with the idea of a sequel to the reboot, and Mancini has already stated that he plans to release another film once the tv show is out. This franchise isn't cooling off anytime soon.

That all said, I still believe that Shout Factory will eventually release collectors editions of parts 2 & 3 or possibly a full franchise box set... it just won't be for several years in all likelihood.
Odd that they didn't consider Psycho II and III a drop in the bucket

Hasn't a 4K release of Mad Max been rumored for awhile now? Not through Shout/Scream though.

I'm hoping these expiring titles will get the 4K treatment! I'd pick them all up, except Escape From NY, which I already have. Unless there is magical improvement on it somehow.

I've always wondered what's going to happen with Killer Knowns now that Disney owns it. They stopped the Killer Klowns in 3D sequel that FOX already had in development because it didn't meet their core values, and the Arrow edition was licensed before the merger. I'm wondering if Disney plans to lock it away in a dark room going forward

EFNY steelbook with original poster art. That’s my white whale!
Please make it happen SF.

As much as I'd like a steelbook of EFNY, I won't be needing one or any other edition of this film. The StudioCanal 4K set from last year will be hard to top.

Would love to see SF give the Mad Max films a box set loaded with features including new interviews with cast and crew. A remaster on the films as well. Dont necessarily need it in 4k. Fury Roads current 4k to me is worse than its blu.

Killer Klowns (along with, right off the top of my head, A Fish Called Wanda and Ronin) were part of the MVD Blow-Out sale earlier this year. MVD, which is Arrow's distributor, IIRC, confirmed that those titles were going OOP.

Normally they don't get this cheap but Arrow wants us to blow out the remaining stock. Once we sell out, these will be gone so even in you are on the fence about any of these titles, it's probably worth picking up (even if it's to stock them in your closet for a few years and resell them at a later date after they are long out of print), cause in a few weeks they will be "gone".

These are going out of print so if you are looking to pick Killer Klowns or Fish Called Wanda up, I would grab them elsewhere like Amazon while you still can.
That SHOULD'VE been my hint that the rest of the MGM titles were likely going to be going OOP eventually, and not just the "less-than-great" sellers, as it's affecting other labels as well. At this point, if there's any other SF titles you want that they got from MGM, you may want to jump on those while you still can.

Disney doesn't own the film. MGM do, and based on what we've seen so far, it looks like Warner Bros. is distributing their library now.

Pardon if I come off as whining, but is there a reason why Exorcist 2 and Texas Chainsaw Next Generation have rarely come down in price?

All the news about the soon to be OOP titles got me into looking at my “to buy” list, hence the inquiry.

It would be nice if their items that included posters dropped down in price by $10 or so given the savings both to reduced cost of materials, but also reduced cost of shipping and handling/supplies. For example, if it's $28-29 for the set that includes the poster and priority mail shipping, maybe reducing it to $18-19 for a set that does not include the poster and can be shipped with media mail or first class.

That would probably be my only wish list recommendation/whine. Either that or produce more posters to include if they want to continue selling for the $28-29 bundle price

you’ll still be paying less than you would to a scalper.

I didn't have as many MGM-licensed titles in my wishlist as I thought, but there's still a few that I'll probably end up nabbing sooner than later. There's several from Criterion. I guess since Killer Klowns is already going OOP, I should go ahead and also nab the ones that came out in 2018... Hopefully this is a temporary issue that will only last until the dust clears with MGM's new deal with Warner.

Exorcist 2 and TCM: TNG were licensed from Warner and Sony respectively, BTW.

Was Assault On Precinct 13 MGM? I'm wondering if it's also going OOP as it seems to be a little rarer. I have the Image, but I wan't to eventually complete my SF Carpenter collection and don't wanna see this one skyrocket.

Another round of mad last minute scrambles for soon-to-be-OOP Blu-rays lol. I grab what I need day one so I don't have to dumpster dive every time they spring these last minute declarations, which I still think are marketing gimmicks.
