Hahaha

Paramount made it clear in the past that they don't care about the F13th series. More fool them though, cause if they had of released them all on Blu ray they would of made alot of money.

I emailed Paramount about April Fools Day, and how it could benefit from a blu-ray release.

I suggest you do the same, after taking so many requests in the 90s I was obsessed with getting Sony to release Tingler on dvd the first time, just so they would stop forwarding them to my inbox.

Trust me, it works.

Paramount has never been a particularly strong supporter of home video. They were one of the last major studios to support DVD (they had initially backed DIVX). They have been generally reluctant to dip into their catalog. They have been reluctant to put out special editions of their movies (I recall that they turned down Howard Stern when he wanted to do a SE of "Private Parts.")

Even in DVD's heyday, Paramount's support for the format was tepid at best.

Now that the home video market has cooled off it shouldn't be surprising that they aren't supporting blu-ray aggressively.

WTF.

I used a $5 Vudu promo code and did their 'disc to digital' thing to own streaming rights to April Fools Day in 1080p. It looks pretty good for streaming, but I really really want it on Blu...

Guess this is a bit off-topic for a Scream Factory thread, but I had to say it!

I don't really think that's true. From 2000-05, they were one of the better supporters of the format, as far as deeper catalog titles go.

Anyway, didn't they downsize their home video division? Also, regarding the April Fool's Day release of the upcoming DVD--it's coming from WB. Perhaps they'll also release a BD version down the road...

As far as the original question goes, I think it's more of a case by case basis, but more often than not, it's them being given a transfer rather than them doing it themselves, especially when you take into account the cost of doing a new transfer.
Thank you guys for clearing that up. I knew that additional work was done on the Scream Factory release, and that made it look different from the Universal release, although I wasn't sure if that meant a different transfer or not. And I knew that Universal eventually included a lossless audio track, and that it wasn't exclusive to Scream Factory, I was just commenting that the original pressing didn't include it. But in my opinion -- to answer the OP's original question -- I don't think Scream Factory would give us a release of say Tremors and The Thing, if they didn't feel their release could improve upon the original release.

The DVD transfer of April Fool's Day was gorgeous... just would look even better on Blu.

Maybe another company (Olive?) already has the rights to release a Blu and is planning to do so? Possible?

I could see that happening. Republic Pictures (aka The Running Man) is owned by Viacom which Paramount is a division of so maybe Olive might do it.

I thought Paramount only licensed the Friday the 13th series to Warner along with the other titles - so they gave up the rights completely?

Regarding APRIL FOOL'S DAY, if it's Warner who has it then there's a better chance we might see a BD down the road. But I'm staying on the "realist" side and not holding my breath. We're talking about a studio who has embraced the Manufactured-on-(DVD)Demand strategy and has had big success with it. AFD is an 80's horror title that until recently belonged to another studio - the odds of it getting on a BD release schedule thru Warner are slim to none IMO.

This is regarding the Phantasm 2 release. I looked quick and didn't notice whether this had been mentioned and didn't see it so I'll mention it. There is what seems to be like a digital wear line just under the letterbox bar at the top of the screen. You can see traces of it on the actual screencaps on this site as well so it's not just my copy. It almost looks like pixel static. If Cliff (cmac) has an explanation for this I would appreciate knowing what it is. If it's inherent to their master I can live with it but I hope it's not an encoding error. I just figured I'd bring this up to see if I could get a confirmation about what it is or if anyone else has noticed it. Otherwise I'm liking this release. Great Doc.

I just watched it last night and noticed the same thing. I thought my copy was messed up or something. I would like to know what it is also. It's not too distracting to the point where I can't watch the movie, but... it's noticeable Lol.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I did also notice it on the footage that is on the menu and in the documentary. So it's definitely a source issue. Just wondering what it was and if we could at least get some sort of explanation for it. I know Cliff (cmac) visits this thread so that's why I posted here. I guess if anyone would know it would be him.

Yeah, but it's just ONE--The other, and far more abominable, abominations have already been spoken for by cheaper companies.
No one's asking Shout for a long-term commitment: One off for cult value, and a "Where is Philippe Mora today?" interview (he's reportedly calmed down a bit over the years, and on the commentary, even he didn't know where his head was on H3), what would it hurt?

Please, sir: Chimpanzees have relatively sane brain functions, and you INSULT them by comparing their editing to Mora's mad psychotic episodes.
("Mad" or "Australian with a camera", where do you draw the line? )

Oh yeah, and that horrid song. It's played at least 3-4 times during the movie, and always with shots of the band playing it.
Although I find that one repeated riff over and over actually adds to the fever-nightmare quality of the movie. The acting in Mora's 80's movies (when they can speak English) is either non-existent or hysterically stylized, with nothing in between, and the editing and directionless story pace certainly looks like that last burrito before bed.
That's actually its charm, whereas Mora's Howling III was just bad, goofball Oz-ploitation.

And so many fans are holding Shout to that "IF", there's really no way out by this point.

One of the few films I was unable to overcome the desire to turn off partway through. The same fate befell Hellgate earlier this week. Literally five minutes in, I knew it would be completely horrible, and after 35 minutes I just couldn't take it anymore. The film paired with it, The Pit, was equally abysmal in many ways, but it was at least a genuine oddity with some interesting ideas buried beneath the bewildering morass of evil teddy bears and Tra-la-logs.

Does anyone know if the slipcovers that come with the collector's editions are limited or does every copy have one?

They are limited, but I'm not sure how limited each one is.
