as a producer, spielberg would have been involved in the hiring of the director. i have heard that he was a fan of texas chainsaw massacre.
it is not uncommon for a producer and director to collaborate. but if you’re the marketing department, why wouldn’t you be marketing spielberg, the most successful director at the tome? it’s foolish not to try and play him when trying to win over the casual audience. as for it not looking like anything else in his filmography, what do you say about someone like robert wise? his filmography was diverse because he was a craftsman. four times that night doesn’t look like blood and black lace or black sunday. that doesn’t mean that bava didn’t direct both. ALSO TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 DOESNT EVEN LOOK LIKE IT WAS DIRECTED BY THR SAME PERSON AS THE ORIGINAL, AND WE KNOW THAT TO BE THE CASE. the reason it has never been confirmed is because it isn’t true. but trolls want to say that there isn’t a confirmation is proof, gimme a break. let’s not forget that this is something has only been talked about on the more clickbait recent years of the internet. spielberg even took an ad out in variety to thanks hooper for the collaboration. but i’m sure the trolls will just say this is part of some long con by spielberg. |

![]() I took advantage of a current $25 eBay coupon (HAPPY25 if anyone wants to try it, but there doesn't seem to be a pattern as to which accounts it works for and which it doesn't) to defray the cost of a few Shout releases: ![]() ![]() ![]() The Entity is a blind buy, but it looks like a very safe bet. As for the other two, I know I've seen them many years ago, but I don't have strong memories of them. Again, great reviews and I'm happy to have them as a horror fan. Hoping they'll arrive in time to watch over the upcoming holiday weekend! ![]() Last edited by TwinCitiesBluFan; 08-30-2020 at 01:35 AM. |

I pretty much believe Spielberg directed the majority of Poltergeist. It just feels like his film with some Tope Hooper thrown in for flavor.
This is a quote from John Leonetti who worked on the film, "It was a very intense, very fun, very technical movie to work on. There’s a lot going on. And candidly… Steven Spielberg directed that movie. There’s no question," he stated. "However, Tobe Hooper – I adore. I love that man so much." |

Tales from the Darkside was a superb release. Haven't seen the movie in far too long. Pretty solid still. But the extras really catapult this release up high. Another great release.
As for what's the next big title from SF? I'm not concerned. They always get things we don't expect. Look forward to the F13 boxset, Brides of Dracula, and Event Horizon. |

With the number of other cast and crew who have said Spielberg was on set almost every single day (even for second unit stuff), I suspect that Hooper sat in the chair and nominally called the shots verbally, whilst Spielberg stood off to the side and everyone had a quiet word with him when Hooper wasn't looking for some "proper" direction. Admittedly I'm biased and one of those of the opinion that the first Texas Chainsaw is actually atypical of Hooper, largely down to the budgetary and timescale limitations for everything. If that film had a bigger budget I'm sure it would have been more similar in style and tone to stuff like Funhouse, Lifeforce and The Mangler (in other words Hooper never did subtlety, unlike Spielberg at his best). |

Can't understand why Rubinstein continues to hold Dawn hostage in the U.S. Was reported that if Criterion didn't give into demands, said he would burn the original negatives. Would like to get the 4k Dawn boxset, but am unwilling to pay that much for one title. One I have is the Australian release, its barebones and the film isn't cleaned up. Not sure why Rubinstein is being so greedy with this, don't feel like Romero would have done this.
