I love the movie, but it's definitely not a safe blind buy if you're going to compare it to the original. It's not nearly as grim and somber. It's a trashy, gory, early 90's MTV-style followup. The movie is bolstered by a deranged performance by Clancy Brown, however if you're looking for something along the lines of the original, the sequel will likely be a disappointment.

Pet Sematary II is a film that gets better with repeat viewings as you have a better idea of what to expect and realize that it's not going to recapture the magic of the first film. The original film is arguably one of the very best Stephan King films and an all around great horror film... the sequel fails to recapture much of what made the original work so well but once you get past this initial disappointment you'll find that the film is still quite enjoyable and one that I have grown to appreciate (and even dare I say, love) immensely in recent years. It's very much a product of its time though which may or may not be something you find as enjoyable as I do as a result. Like many King films of this time its appeal is largely geared more toward mainstream audiences and as a result feels like it just didn't quite go far enough into traditional horror for many of us horror fiends, but for the average movie viewer was likely well planned for what they would stomach vs pushing the boundaries of comfort.

You Mentioned that you liked the remake, so I feel confident in the notion that you'll likely find something to like about this film as well. That said, I'd encourage a viewing before a blind buy as the current price of nearly $28 is a bit of a stretch for this one unless you know what you're getting into.

i want to say it might be streaming on prime, or it was in the last six months or so. it’s very trashy, but like in a fun way. very grindhouse.

it’s not going to blow your mind, but it is fairly entertaining and would probably be better if it hadn’t been neutered by the mpaa. if you like your movies a little crazy, this might be for you.

I have never visited this thread before, but major props to the OP for all that work in the main page! Really love how all the title covers are laid out.

The two Alligator films have been on my wishlist for a while now. Maybe one day SF could release it as a double feature.

Wow, I never looked at the first page before, just went to the most recent comments. That really is a nice job and will be very helpful going forward.

I bought Pet Sematary Two & My Bloody Valentine together a few months back. Both films have new 4k transfers (compressed down to 1080p of course) that look very good IMHO. Valentine’s transfer’s my favorite of the two because it stands out better with this as it’s an older film - they also remastered the deleted footage with the rest of the transfer and it’s so perfect you can’t even tell where the added footage is. I love both films but if you could only pick one then roll with My Bloody Valentine (but don’t forget about Pet Sematary because that’s worth a purchase too!)

Did Shout lose the rights to Invasion of the Body Snatchers? I feel like this one will get a steelbook from Scream...

These days, yes. It was likely shipped media mail, so it’s going to take a while.
