Creepshow, Trick r' Treat, Tales From The Darkside, Tales From the Crypt, Vault Of Horror, etc etc etc

I enjoy most all horror anthology films but I've never really rated ANY of them as "great" or "the best" because every single one of them have some mediocre segments along with the good ones.... To this day I have yet to see one where I loved ALL the stories.....

I think I enjoy all of the stories in the ones you mentioned- even though some are weaker than others- but the nature of anthology movies makes them feel less satisfying to me than one whole story. They're just not very substantial, kinda like candy- good for what they are, but I don't need to revisit them all that often. That said, I don't have the SF Creepshow and it's probably time to revisit. Might make it my Halloween viewing this year...

Creepshow or Trick r' Treat? That's a tough one.

I'll take V/H/S, V/H/S/2, Southbound over Trick R Treat. I enjoy all 4 but Trick R Treat is in a distant 4th compared to the other 3 in my book.

The second VHS is good, but the first over Trick r Treat?! Some of the segments in that are nearly unwatchable.

Interesting. The two anthologies that I feel have no weak segments are Creepshow and Tales from the Crypt 1972. Those two are the top of the mountain for horror anthologies and no others comes close. But I really enjoy Trick r Treat alot. The werewolves story is kinda meh, but everything else is really fun.

Trick R Treat Ends strong but much of the film just doesn't do much for me. It's a very middle of the road film by my estimation and why a sequel was never green lit. Meanwhile V/H/S spawned 2 official sequels, a spinoff in Southbound, and last I heard a reboot coming next year. I'll watch Trick R Treat every couple of years, but I marathon the VHS films yearly if not more frequently. I will agree that the sequel is the superior film as the original is a bit long in the tooth at times and needed to be trimmed by about 15 minutes or so, but even with that said I still consider it, and that film, to be superior to Trick R Treat (and most other anthology films as well).

I’ve seen all the V/H/S films, Siren & Southbound. While I liked them I think Trick r Treat is better. I just found it more enjoyable overall as the V/H/S series has segments in each I just didn’t like. Wasn’t like that with Trick r Treat for me, I enjoyed them all.

I freaking love Trick r Treat!

I watch it every Halloween as sort of a tradition, and i alternate it with Hallowen (1978) as the last film i watch on Halloween night. For example, last year i watched Halloween last, this year i will watch Trick r Treat last.

I also really like creepshow, but haven't watched it in forever. I still have my SF LE sealed, but i will be giving it another watch this October. The Crate was definitely one of my favorite segments.

Tales From the Darkside: the movie is another i haven't seen in forever, but i really love it as well. Now that i have the SF blu ray, i'm adding it to my October watch pile.

No love for "Cat's Eye", anyone? The James Woods segment is great.
I also really like "Body Bags".

I always assumed they gave it that treatment to "match" Arrow's release of Creepshow 2.

Yes! Lots of great anthologies. Picking a 'best' isn't easy.

I mean, VHS was also much lower budget compared to the production behind Trick R Treat. Also, Sam has become a pop culture horror icon over the last five years. The amount of merchandise alone behind Trick R Treat rivals everything in all the VHS movies. It's almost turned into a Killer Klowns type phenomena. Killer Klowns never got a sequel either but that movie's legacy grew leaps and bounds more than many of its contemporaries.

I might have liked Trick R Treat if it had been a traditional anthology. But the way the stories are all mixed together, jumping back and forth, and ultimately forming some kind of full circle loop that makes no sense to me was really annoying. It had a great Halloween atmosphere but that was about it for me.

That's what i love about it so much. All the stories connect with each other. It's not something you normally see with anthology's.

I wish SF did what Kino does! use this forum and let people know what's been selling well or what hasn't met expectation...

They should post a monthly top selling films list and then do another at the end of the year.... It always gives me a shock when someone from SF announces on a podcast that a certain popular title didn't sell well at all, it never makes sense are they judging it by sales expectations or if the the first run didn't sell out in the first 6 months???

Some favorite anthologies:

1. A Christmas Horror Story - I actually like every segment and it has little connections to each story.

2. Trick r Treat

3. Nightmares - like the variety in this one.

4. Tales of Halloween - some duds but like most

5. Tales from the Darkside

Creepshows too but not a big fan of the comic book style.
