Not really... I've actually been looking into it and even with the 3rd Volume, I thought by then they were kinda scrapping the bottom of the perverbal bucket in terms of what they potentially have access too. Kino pretty much picked up the slack where the AIP Comedies are concerned as well.

Tremors was going to be licensed from someone, I'm just glad that Arrow won out since I feel their restoration will be the best. I'm in this for the PQ - that's my #1 reason.
Both of these have some merit. Yes, the important thing is that these titles ultimately get released. But at the same time, I'd be lying if I said I didn't get more excited about titles coming from labels with a known reputation of quality. Criterion's announcement of Night of the Living Dead was much more appealing to me than when Mill Creek announced it, for example. Or, using a more recent example, I'm more excited for Vinegar Syndrome doing a release of The Beastmaster, than I would've been if Echo Bridge, whom had included it on one of their 10-movie budget collections, had released it.

You'd be singing a different tune if VCI ever secures Blu-Ray rights to Clownhouse.

I'm going to continue to beat this dead horse. Army Of Darkness 4K is coming. Universal must not consider Evil Dead to be an active franchise, despite a new one on the way. Meanwhile, Child's Play 2 & 3 are being held by Universal!

Army of Darkness is the only piece of Evil Dead that Universal owns (1 and 2 and AvsED belong to Lionsgate, remake with Sony). Compared to Child’s Play which is still seeing direct to video sequels from Universal and a TV series on Universal’s Syfy Network. So I can see where they are coming from when declaring something “active”.

No i wouldn't. Because there are no other labels that want to release it. They don't have the guts to do it.

As sxerunner said, Army of Darkness is the only Evil Dead property that Universal owns. Chucky still has active projects in development from Universal, so it's not the same situation (although Arrow is releasing Tremors, which has a DTV sequel coming out next month, so they may be relaxing those restrictions).

I think it's less that "they don't have the guts" and more that "they don't feel the negative publicity is worth it". SF dealt with it when they released the Jeepers Creepers movies, so it's not surprising they'd want to avoid more of it releasing the movie being made when those offenses took place. And I say that as someone whom would welcome a Blu-Ray of the movie.

I hope this doesn’t affect Halloween 2 and 3 being released on UHD since that series is also active.

Universal knows they can make money off the Halloween franchise. Halloween 2018 made $250 million off of a $10 million budget. Like i said before, i would be shocked if SF releases 4K's of Halloween II and Halloween III. I think Universal will release themselves.

Halloween being an "active" franchise for them through Blumhouse is the only reason I'm not convinced that SF will release 2 and 3 on UHD (prior to that, I would've bet that those would have been among the initial titles).

But then again, Universal licensed out Tremors, which is still an active franchise, so maybe they aren't being as strict with those guidelines anymore. Either way, I'd love to get Halloween II and III on UHD (and add them into my Halloween box with everything else).

If Escape From New York's getting a UHD in the US anytime soon, it won't be from SF, as they've lost the rights. If Kino picked it up like they did Mad Max, then I could see it happening (or if SF regains the rights).

That said, there is a 4K release overseas, which is easily the best it's ever looked, so if you don't want to wait, you can always import it.

I've heard Universal is doing The Thing themselves. I'll be content as long as a release comes out.

Is there typically a market for people who buy the Scream steels without the disc? I swapped the 2018 H2/H3 discs into my complete collection set, so I have the empty steels just sitting around because I wasn't sure if it'd be worth it selling without the discs or not.

People campaigned and shouted enough to convince Vinegar Syndrome to go back and print up slips for older releases and to sell those slips on their own... Steelbook collectors are equally as nutty so you're guaranteed to find somebody who wants them. I wouldn't be shocked to see you get $7-$10 for them pretty easily.

Yeah people will buy pretty much anything. I'm pretty sure there's a market for just the artwork inserts or arrow booklets as well.

Vinegar Syndrome won’t do that purely because it would go back on their promise of something being limited coming back in stock. I don’t agree with it myself but I understand why they don’t do it either.

Vinegar Syndrome has been releasing slips without movies for the last year on select older releases and they'll add more to that collection in November during the next Black Friday sale.
