Well I have been tempted , but I just love the Anchor Bay version, it has more extras and versions I think. I usually watch the 137 uncut version ..

Especially as Eliminators has been broadcast in widescreen on the MGM channel.

Cliff said in his FB post that these are the only masters that MGM has. If Shout/Sceam wanted to..they could do new masters for this release. We know that MGM did not have widescreen for Captain America as their MOD was fullframe so I'm assuming Shout is remastering that.
I hereby pledge that I would spend much more for these sets if done properly. I purchased nearly all of the Corman sets because Shout took the effort to do it in widescreen. Cliff compares this set to what Lionsgate does with its titles. Lionsgates is the worst with its catalogue titles. Cliff, Please don't compare yourself to them.
I understand the business standpoint. I know you don't want to lose money..but seriously...Albert Pyun's captain America justified a remaster and not these highly requested titles?

Cliff, instead of budget release...make this a limited number release..charge more..and create new masters for these films. It will make money..and preserve the films for the future so that they are seen properly. Shout/Scream are the only way MGM is going to release these so you guys are the last hope to do them right...PLEASE RECONSIDER NOT REMASTERING. Seriously..charge more for the set...20 dollars...30 dollars..heck 40 or 50 dollars is still a deal as it would be 10-12 dollars a movie! I'm begging you Cliff and Shout.....please do these titles right. I would think that all of the cult film lovers on this site who were psyched for the release would be willing to pay more.

Let's be realistic. These titles are anything but highly requested. Unless this release is tossed in a WalMart bargain bin, it'll sell maybe a couple thousand copies and fade away. If there was more money to be made on these dodgy flicks, you can bet that Shout would have pursued those bucks.

The comparison to Lionsgate was a REALLY bad idea. We're talking about a studio that's sitting on a goldmine of cult titles and refuses to do anything with them or, worse, refuses to license them out. Anything, that is, except for once in a blue moon throw out an exclusive set that people have to literally hunt for at the bottom of bargain dump bins in SOME Walmarts. It doesn't matter for squat that the sets are cheap - the quality is watchable but far from desirable. I always feel like I'm throwing money away when I buy these sets but since it's the only way to see some of these movies then I have no choice. I DON'T WANT SHOUT TURNING INTO ANOTHER LIONSGATE.

Having said that, I loved the Action 4-Pack and intend to purchase ALL future sets day one. There's something very appealing about buying four obscure and cheesy but fun movies that haven't had previous releases except on VHS if they're done right. The upcoming Sci-Fi set, while not perfect, is a must-have. I really hope to see more of these sets in the future.

I understand and sympathize with people that are having some disappointment with the 4-Movie Sets. But, we have to remind ourselves that like Cliff mentioned they are working with what MGM is personally supplying them. In addition, as much as many of us in this thread have longed for a lot of these titles, many of them especially the ones being found in these 4-Movie Sets, are loved by a very niche crowd and do not justify the means to spend the capital in remastering, etc. The demand for them may seem like a lot based on the passionate people such as myself and others on similar forums but the reality is films of this nature more than likely are not going to be sellers that Shout Factory can retire on.

We just have to keep in perspective the positive aspects that we have a company like Shout Factory and people like Cliff working on these projects who actually have a love for the material. Secondly, they are taking the smarter route in giving us more films for our buck in each collection as opposed to selling overpriced burn-on demand products. To clarify, when I say "smarter route" I mean that since these films won't be high sellers the fact they are giving us more films in a collection set is financially more sound than taking a chance on say a single disc release of "America 3000". Imagine, if there were single disc releases of "Eye of the Tiger" and "Alienator" and they failed so miserably that from a business end it didn't make sense for Shout to continue releasing films of this caliber as much as they may love the material. It would be a real blow to see so many potential titles lost again without seeing legitimate releases because earlier single disc releases failed. The 4-Film Sets are a smarter route financially for Shout as well as for us because we will more than likely see so many more MGM films finally released on DVD than ever before.

The Arrow version has all 3 cuts of the movie. The Theatrical is in HD and the other 2 cuts are SD (and PAL) but it is a really nice set and has exstensive extras but I never compared them to the AB 4-disc set too see what's missing

Remastering movies is one thing, having them in the original aspect ratio is another. anyway Im not familiar with any of the SciFi Set movies and have no idea how they were shot other than what Im reading in the forum. I think movies should be presented in their OAR if nothing else.
Ever try watching a Pan and Scan Close Encounters of the third kind ?
No? Me either

Hi Ben..translation..thanks for talking about me like I am a jerk.
I went to film school graduated with honors and I understand how a business works. I'm not an idiot and you have no right to talk of me as such. I could say things about you but I have more class than to speak of someone else and mash up their words.
I own over 4000 dvd's and know what I want to purchase. I simply came up with a suggestion as I would rather spend more money on a quality release than a Lionsgate quality release.

As a film historian, I always strive to see films presented properly and preserved for all time. I know it is expensive. I've seen companies lose their ass because of their passion. I don't want Shout to go bankrupt making new masters for everything. I was simply stating or asking if their is an alternative to make it possible. Perhaps if you learn to read or actually read what I said you would have gotten that out of my post instead of immediately slamming me.

Has The Beast Within been a shot-down title yet? I remember a list of movies Cliff said were a "no" but I can't remember if that was on there. It's an MGM release, and I think it's a perfect Scream title.

Has anyone ever seen "Shock Treatment", the musical sequel to the Rocky Horror Picture Show? 2OTH CENTURY FOX has it, so maybe we will get it from Scream!!

FYI:

I finally broke down and imported a NOTLD BD, from Japan, because I wanted one that would work with my R-A Player. And Japan is Region A.

here is the art:

I'm not as opposed to buying a DVD as I used to be, it's perfectly fine if a BD is out of the question.

OAR is a must though, I just can't do Pan & Scan.

Well I guess since there is a Sci-Fi 4 pack that pretty much kills that chance of getting Arena on blu ray then.

In Horror Movie News:

I came across this in a thread dedicated to The upcoming "Dark Knight" Ultimate Trilogy, and saw that 'House of Wax 3D' and 'Exorcist' 40th Anniversary Edition is coming soon in the 3rd Quarter of 2013, probably around Halloween!

Just finished watching The Island and although it was very slow atleast it was boring. I did like that Michael Cain was in a Zanuck/Brown movie based on a Peter Benchley novel years before He did Jaws The Revenge. Also early in the movie there is a truck that has "Gotham" written on the side of it, nice little Dark Night moment.
