Dawn of the Dead just got released on 4k blu-ray and blu-ray a month ago. The restoration is fantastic. Best release of 2020.

It's a great release by all accounts. However, this is a title that should have easy circulation in the US. It's literally one of the best if not the best horror film of all time.

I'm pretty sure either Scream or Paramount will release King Kong '76 this year. Alligator is one I really want, but the rights are with the producers apparently, and it just comes down to who is willing to pay their ransom on it.

Blood Beach is a personal Top 10 favorite. It's weird how a bunch of my favorite horror movies have had frustrating rights issues. Thankfully most have been resolved, in some cases beautifully (The Mutilator), while others had been victims of indifferent studios who until recently have played hardball (StudioCanal with Superstition, The Manitou). Paramount recently relented and gave a handful of my favorites to Scream Factory. April Fool's Day was just the theatrical cut but at least it's still on Blu-ray. I just need Funeral Home and Midnight (1981), and, of course Blood Beach to complete my dream horror collection. |

At this point my most wants from Scream are Alone in the Dark (the Jack Palance version) Alligator, and A Simple Plan. Raiders of Atlantis would also be nice, but not sure if that would go to Shout Select.

Eh, physical media will be around though prices may be higher and number of titles decrease ( which they would anyway as less quality catalog titles to release). As Ian Malcolm would say, physical media will find a way.

Yeah, I don't think it will be gone anytime soon, but it is possible down the line. I do wonder how many more WB titles Scream has, and if that deal is winding down, hopefully they can pick up some titles now.

I'm still mad that I missed out on some of the ones I really wanted because I didn't think they were going to go out of print. And SF blu rays never show up at the Goodwill or the Pawn shop. lol

I can see Vinegar Syndrome tackling that one since it's right up their alley and they dealt with tricky rights holders before for Rad, Fade to Black, Beastmaster.

That would be great as it would probably receive an immaculate restoration on top of everything. Hope you're right.

I signed up for HBOMax because of Warner's revelation that all new 2021 releases will pop up on the service day-and-date with the theatrical rollout. Theaters are still closed so my decision was made all the more easier. On the physical media front, I don't buy many Warner Archive Blu's anymore, mainly because they're not releasing much I'm interested in. If they fold the Archive into HBOMax, that'll be a big win-win for me because now I can watch all the films I want for fifteen bucks a month - including new first-run films.
I wouldn't worry too much about the "death" of physical media. Look at Vinegar Syndrome. It took them an entire month working around the clock to ship Black Friday orders. And people couldn't wait for the webshop to open back up to buy more stuff (myself included). I think there's room for both streaming and physical media - it's just too bad the studios don't feel the same way. |

I would hope SF would put out Alligator, and maybe even make it a Collector's Edition with this poster as a print
