The artwork on the Halloween 4k's are horrible! But it saves me some money, going to just order off Amazon.

Special features aren't always finalized, but I believe the AR and A/V specs are finalized. It was discussed a couple of weeks back here where titles like King Kong '76 and My Bloody Valentine don't mention all included special features since art work is finalized before the special features are.

1. Not DOTD's problem.

2. How does this steal hype? Scream Factory's social media presence is nearly non existent outside of announcements.

I get it, it sucks, but they are up for preorder at multiple outlets. Blame them.

The Friday the 13th set was the same way. The specs on the cases matched what was originally revealed with the set’s announcement, but stuff that was added in the interim between that and the final announcement wasn’t represented in the cases.

Same, if i love original poster art I will buy, frame and display it in my home. Shout puts the original art on the flipside and you still get a handful of people that whine like toddlers lol they are just miserable.

+1

It's safe to assume that they printed the case art, boxes, and books well before the discs arrived in the packaging facility or even before they were pressed.

They're collector's editions, so they should have reversible inserts, hopefully with original poster artwork. So just use the reverse and ditch the slips.

I plan on reprinting the reverse sides so that the new lousy art will be gone completely.

The problem is in the semantics for some, but DOTD and "GeekGab" (or whatever it's called on Twitter) attempt to create their own hype by listing everything as **NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT** (or post unofficial cover art) when in fact titles like this have not yet been officially "announced" or confirmed officially by their labels. It creates confusion in the marketplace and with fans of physical media, who assume it's all announced. Yes, perhaps retailers shouldn't list them until they're announced, either, but this is all just a larger problem across the internet, where "reporting" "rumors" as "facts" confuses many who don't understand how much work goes on behind the scenes putting these projects together with the "official" contracts, distribution deals, and promotional concerns. If these bloggers didn't use the above terminology, I wouldn't have as much of a problem.

Because it's completely their fault? This happens all the time with Shout! Maybe they should announce first before dealing with retailers if it bothers them that much. Also, it doesn't even matter, who cares? Oh no 1000s of potential custoners know what films we're releasing, oh no the free advertising. DOWD aren't to blame, the retailers are & more importantly Shout! for repeating their mistakes.

If anything, this just makes them look pathetic tbh.

Not to pile on, but I assume this person is Scream's publicity person? If so, this doesn't look good for any company. Not so much the ranting (as if jealous that he didn't get to do "his own company scoop" and get the attention for himself?), but calling basically everyone here (practically their entire customer base) part of "fan-boy internet groups" even if really targeting DOTD unfairly, is really slapping the hand that feeds you.

Also, the typos, if he is the publicist, is embarrassing. "publicly" - he must mean "publicity", which I assume IS his department! The company lost NOTHING, gained a ton of free "publicly"; the only one that lost anything is the Scream employee who needed their own ego-stroke.

Not to be the grammar police any more, but technically, DOTD nor anyone else stole the announcements, as Scream never does "announcements". They always use the word "announce" - for example, "our announce will be coming up..." (announce is a verb, but they always use it as a noun.) I've noticed that misspelling for years. And this is their official publicity, I mean 'publicly', department?

A bad day overall, a poorly written rant, DOTD unfairly trashed by Scream's own faults, the worst cover arts of all time by Scream (and that's saying a lot). I'm going back to bed and hoping this was all a bad dream.

Well I agree with this. Why do they play this game of waiting so long to announce titles? It’s their fault if retailers are being made aware of upcoming titles… and nobody else. If they want to have their moment basking in new release glory.. then do it in a timely manner!

Same here. I know they're not outstanding, but they're very pleasing to my eyes. I've seen some really shitty artwork and these Halloween 4Ks aren't it.

100 times better than generic comic book art that's been on over 500 releases for the past decade.

Opinions are like a$$holes……we’ve all got ‘em.

Not usually too bothered by artwork but AITD new art is attrocious. I don’t care either way but if I was in charge of that disc, I would have just kept the perfect original artwork and the money saved on commissioning the new art, I would put towards an online PR to sort out release announcements.

I'm going to take a wild guess that you've never dealt with a Hollywood studio leak before - take my word for it, they are petty as hell about this kind of thing no matter how minor and will hold a grudge about it for a loooong time. I won't name the site, but I worked at a big entertainment news outlet throughout the 2010s and if we posted anything even a minute before the agreed upon time, we'd literally get uninvited from screenings and events. Even if it doesn't affect the leaked release, it can very well impact the ability to do further deals.
