I just roll my slipcovers up into cylinders, coat the inside in lube, and use them all as fleshlights.

I like slipcovers because they have more of a VHS type aesthetic on my shelf. Sure, they don't have the same width as a VHS but the corners are square and they look more like a VHS-type box. I think they're much more attractive than a keep case or blu case.
That's really the only reason I like them. And I realize it sounds absurd but suck it. ![]() |

I can take or leave Slipcovers, but love the Arrow LE style boxes. I like the extras and the booklets, etc., but I’d be lying if didn’t say I just like the way they look in my shelf.

To be honest, as a businessman, I'm actually kinda bemused by the stories of people who are adamant about throwing away slipcovers/slipboxes/slipcases, since I don't care how other people organize their collections. I'm pleased that all my 4Ks and Shout stuff have slips, but let's say for the sake of argument that I didn't care about my slips and thought my collection looked its best without any slips. Would I throw them out? Of course not, because looking at the market shows it's not good business sense to do so, especially in a genre with passionate collectors like horror, and even more so especially for a boutique label whose consumers are even more likely to have the collector mindset. So what would I do? I'd look at eBay right now and note the insane prices people will pay for slips (even unofficial custom ones have multiple bidders), take them off my copies, flatten them out, put them in a shoebox in the closet instead of in the trash, and forget about them. Then I'd wait however long it takes for the slips to go OOP and for people online to start grumbling about it, take them out of the box, and list them. In the process, given the going rates, I could probably sell many of the slips for the same prices I bought the whole blu-ray for initially, essentially meaning that, retroactively, I would've gotten these releases for free, or at least for pennies on the dollar.
Like, I understand why someone might not care about throwing out a dime-a-dozen super mainstream slip that might, at most, go for like $5 down the line because everyone got it and it's harder to find a slipless copy than a slipped copy, because obviously the costs to ship it won't be worth the trouble; but if you know, based on precedent, that a certain type of slip is going to probably sell for the same amount of money as the entire original release did (or even more), it seems kinda strange to knowingly throw easy money away just to prove a point about "lol cardboard." Especially since the very people who you might scoff at for being so picky about that cardboard will be the very people paying you $30 for it in two years...or six months. Multiply that out with the total numbers of titles you collect, and you could have a cool couple hundreds that wouldn't have been there otherwise. I mean, I really don't care about my digital codes and probably have the same mindset about them as people who dislike slips have about slips; the only difference is that instead of throwing my digital codes in the trash, I just sold a batch of them for $50, with which I can either consider them rebates on the titles I bought initially, or I can use the money to get a few new releases or a Zavvi LE release essentially for free, with the costs covered by the digital code buyers. Then again, maybe I'm just a boring, soulless capitalist for not throwing away easy money I can get from people whose interests I acknowledge but don't really understand, and invest that money into my own interests. |

The people that 'discard slipcovers' make me laugh. The swag is part of the product. I get the space part, cuz I guess that extra millimeter eats it up. It also adds value if you need to unload it when a better release comes out, unless you hoard, which is a different topic....

People are paying $120 or more for Day of the Dead with slipcover on eBay. Verified by looking at sold auctions.
It's $20 on Amazon without. So there's that. Keep throwing those slipcovers away, guys! |

edit - Actually, Sleepaway 2 and 3 must be OOP all together, cause they're hundreds on Amazon and who knows if they even have a slip. Sleepaway Camp 1 is $10 though. Last edited by thegreatmutato; 07-11-2021 at 03:42 AM. |
