Halloween

Halloween 2018

Halloween H20

Halloween 4

Halloween 2

RZ Halloween 2

RZ Halloween

Halloween 6

Halloween 5

Halloween Resurrection

And Halloween 3 I don't even rate in the series because it's just a different film. On its own it's a wacky fun film, and I hold it pretty high for what it is.

This was my first time placing an order for Scream titles from DiabolikDVD instead of ordering them directly from the Shout Factory site like I usually do. I feel as though I've just cheated on a spouse.
I always end up giving away the posters, though, and I saved myself a good $50 or so.

I thought about skipping Halloween 4 and Halloween 5, since, well...they kind of suck, but I ultimately went with the whole set.
I'm surprised you didn't get The Borrower, it seems right up your alley.

Halloween 3,4,5,6 > Halloween II (1981)

I just could never get into II.

This probably belongs in the unpopular opinions thread.

I think Halloween Kills will be very good imo. It looks to keep the intense dark sinister vibe of the 2018 one. Really hyped for that one.

I had actually never heard of The Borrower before its Scream announcement, and it is a 1990s movie that does not trigger any of my nostalgic tendencies.

I may be adventurous and order it at some point, but I've got bigger fish to fry these days.

It got a lot of buzz in Fangoria when it came out. Not a bad movie but not great.

"The Borrower" got some publicity in the horror community way back then, as it was John McNaughton's follow-up film (after a 5-year hiatus) to his "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer".

It's nothing like "Henry", and sort of goofy/gory, skipped theatrical for the most part (it maybe had a few playdates in small towns or Manhattan) and then it quickly suffered a quick death on a VHS release that very few stores carried. After a few cable plays, it's been pretty much forgotten ever since, no DVD, so this Blu release will be a good way to revisit it. I recall liking it, but not loving it, but still way better than most later 90's stuff that Trimark and others were putting out. It really didn't deserve to be so forgotten.

The original is the only one I've watched the last 5-7 years. I need to change that.

I will admit to having the same feeling when I first saw 3 that I had with Predator 2 when it came out.... Only instead of asking "Where is Arnie?" I was asking where MM was.... When he never showed, I was like.... "F this movie!"

The H3 defenders will always use the excuse that EVERYONE that thinks the film is BAD thinks so because they thought MM was in it. That is totally false. They just can't accept the fact that some of us just legit think the movie stinks, all on its own.

I saw it when it came out theatrically, I knew MM wasn't in it, I knew Carpenter's plans to release a different story every year, and I was gung-ho with that plan. The whole MM story was done as far as I felt, really with the first film, but let H2 slide. But yes, H3 is going to be something 100% new!!!!
Great!!!

But man, was this the best script they could come up with? H3 was always bad, preposterous, and just plain dull. The whole concept is ridiculous, and the repeating jingle (which fans LOVE) gets really annoying very fast. But the worst part, which you allude to, is Tom Atkins as the lead. I know he's a nice guy and all, but he is NOT leading man material, and all the characters including his are just so unrealistic and uninteresting. Every character is dullsville, except maybe that dumb family where the kid's head breaks open and snakes come out, something like that.

But then again, at LEAST it tried to do something different.

I hated Halloween 3 as a kid, thought it was boring and cheap looking. I still hate the jingle that plays throughout. But I've grown to enjoy the film for what it is. It almost feels like a old Tales From The Darkside episode dragged out to full length. But I've always dug Atkins, he's always cool in my book.

Tom Atkins is awesome.

There's one scene in The Fog that encapsulates his overall screen presence and persona in a nutshell.

His character is lying in bed with Jame Lee Curtis's character just after sex, and he asks her, "What's your name again?"

I was just about to mention this scene as another pairing that seemed to make no sense. I just couldn't see Jamie Lee's character being interested in him. She was 22, he was 45 and looked a decade older. I like him, but a few of his on-screen relationships were pushing credulity even more then Hollywood usually did in those days.

(It is a hilarious line, though!)

I've honestly grown to love H3 throughout the years, but my problem is that if John Carpenter had started the Anthology concept with H2 instead, we wouldn't even have the Micheal Myers debate at all. By doing a direct sequel to the first, basically established MM as the star of the Halloween series and basically cut the Anthology concept at the ankles. They should have also abounded the numbering and Just called it Halloween: Season of the Witch!

Shoulda, coulda, woulda.... Just jesting, I agree with you... but if they had JUST delivered a GOOD standalone film instead of the train-wreck that SOTW was, it may have had a better outcome for the future anthology film plan they were trying to launch. But once again, this was in the day where actually great films like THE THING and BLADERUNNER and CAT PEOPLE and VIDEODROME were almost universally dismissed (not by ME, those were the ones I championed and saw multiple times!!!!), I even championed TRON to a slighter degree, which everyone I knew hated at the time. I always laugh at the blockbusters, though, whoever even mentions money-making junk like FIREFOX anymore?????

As far as H2 goes, it was probably in Universal's stipulation and a requirement to even take on and finance the film that it HAD to bring back Jamie Lee Curtis and the MM character. Unfortunately. All my H3 derision aside, I would watch H3 over any of the useless following MM sequels.
